Hi all.

Been researching diamonds and reading through all your amazing insight. Much appreciation to you all - although the more I read, the more I get a little confused and frustrated.

I am looking to get a round diamond set in a traditional 4-prong platinum setting. My preferences have been:
Carat: 1.5+
Cut: Excellent/Ideal
Color: F
Clarity: SI1
Budget: 11-13k

I went to Michael Fina the other day to check the difference between a lower color H&A type diamond versus an excellent cut F or G diamond. I did notice a little color (i think?) when looking at a H from the sides (my concern with a 4-prong, the sides will show a little more) - but really I could not tell much differences looking at F/G/H''s.

My initial question is do you think I should go with a F/SI/Excellent cut or with a H/VS2/H&A type cut. Obviously this open to people''s own preferences, but would love to hear yours.

Reading about BGD, I was hoping to order from there, spoke briefly with Leslie. They have an BGD signature, H, VS2.

HCA is 1.1

Otherwise, I''m looking at a F / SI1 (assuming these come back eye-clean)

HCA is 0.9

HCA is 0.7

I asked for an Idealscope/ASET image from Abazias. Will post if, when, I get it.

Any thoughts, suggestions, other diamonds, etc would be amazing!!

the BGD Signature is good.

The other 2, will wait for the IS image. Abazias will probably not be able to provide one.

Eye clean is eye clean, so the difference in clarity is irrelevant to the decision in my opinion. Save the money and get an SI1 unless you want a mind clean diamond. Color on the other hand you *can* see. "Safe" to me is a G color. I''d get a G SI1 from BGD if you can!

BGD doesn''t have any 1.5+ G SI1s now, but if you are not in a rush, I was talking to them last night about a purchase of my own and was told that there will be a new drop coming back from the AGS is a couple of weeks. You could wait. If not willing to wait, then the H VS2 is lovely and will still look white in all but the most unforgiving lighting environments and to all but the most critical eyes.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions Dreamer.

Yeah, I was hoping to get a G/SI1 from BGD.

What do you think about this?

I''m kind of confused because the diamond does not look eye clean, yet when I look at the AGS report - where I see inclusions doesnt show up on the inclusion chart? (I probably just butchered the terminology on that).

If that is what you want, then personally I would just wait for their next drop.

The JS looks pretty good and I suspect it has a high chance of being eye clean. The cert shows all the inclusions, the ones on the edge are just hard to see on the cert because it is not a very good copy, but I looked and saw them.

IS and hearts image looks good. The inclusions probably got reflected around. No way to tell just by looking at the loupe image or the clarity plot, you will need to ask JA if the stone is eye-clean.

Thanks I just sent an email to JA to ask.

I was hoping to get the diamond sooner than later tho.

I wonder how much of a difference I will see with color with a H/VS2 v G/SI1 BGD signature cut.

Like I said, I was concerned with the color showing up alittle on the sides with a 4 prong solitaire.

Unless you are very attuned to color you would be hard pressed to see a color difference, even with them side by side. Perhaps the H will look slightly less *crisp* than the G, which is a feature of colorless diamonds that I think is slightly different than warmth, but H is still a good safe color to go with.
