Hi there all-
I am trying to finalize myself here and need your help...We recently purchased a 1.43 antique cushion- she is H in color..Here are some pics of her if you scroll down: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/where-can-i-find-ana-antique-cushion-cut-stone.185708/page-2#post-3423047#p3423047

I have appreciated everyones guidance on here and trust you all are as in love with these beauties as I am so trust and am trying to decide on my setting. I am confused and have narrowed it down ...somewhat...but am really needing another set of eyes- my friends are over their rings and are now married, and my BF says he honestly can't help me with "these ladies things".

I am basically looking for something classic and timeless -where it's simple, but different- does that make sense?? :loopy:

Here are a few ideas confusing me that I have fallen in love with...I am a yellow gold at heart and my man is as well (being Italian and Latin- yellow gold is just in our minds as gold and traditional- "old school is cool" as my son says)..these are things I like and am debating on them all...I have had quotes to put all these elements together into one ring, but part of me needs some feedback on whether it is "too much"... So any honest input is greatly appreciated....I want something that is soft, classic and timeless in yellow gold....

I love this Single stone setting...I saw this one in person with an acc and loved the pear sides with the 2 rounds...the actual SS setting I saw had the pear shaped sides milgrained...so loved that..
http://www.singlestone.com/index.php?page=collections&catID=21&startRow=29

Another element I adore is the jbeg Julia ....the swooping in curves and the diamonds around the basket...it makes it look so regal...still debating the surprise stones on the side but am thinking they would have my son and bf's stones...it's very appropriate they say. This is the side view- the basket diamond trim is just hidden enough on sides- like that...
http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/SignatureSettingsPortfolio/Plain-and-Pave-Solitaires/The-Julia-Surprise-Solitaire/14113210_Xzk22B#!i=1040273172&k=XdPsRx6

Then another thing I am debating is the subtle halo of the tacori 2620...I am not sure if this is putting it over the edge but this is the ring that is making me go hmmm...I also saw it in person and thought hmmm...I wonder....here is novicediamonds avc in this setting...
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-m-is-here-avc-discoball-in-tacori-halo-pic-heavy.178047/
Now I keep imagining the contrast like this oval in a tacori 2620 rose gold....I have thought about rose gold...but no..I feel yellow gold is more me....as beautiful as it may be ....but this is the contrast that is just gorgeous and I love
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_lKKURtE_PI
See this style in yellow gold in an "actual finger pic" is difficult to find- and when I go to the Tacori dealers they all say they would have to custom order in YG.- no samples..

I have asked a custom jeweler and he says it is is just subtle enough highlighting the center diamond....but would like all of your PS feedback for perspective-

I also want my ACC to perform max and be highlighted...should light enter from below more? Or be enclosed more? Just curious...what would be the best setting for an ACC to highlight its beauty...I want it to look like the the pics on the beach and do not want to lose that fire??!
Any guidance and opinion is appreciated from all! I am open ..... :D

I can dwell on details like this like crazy! But I want to look at this ring in 50 years and really do not want to do a redo... I am just too lazy- once it's done it's done! :-)

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

Decisions, decisions! Your stone is stunning, so it will look beautiful whatever you do.

If it were me, then I'd keep with the "old school is cool" theme, and put it in a classic tiffany setting, in yellow gold, although I'd try to keep the prongs in white metal

This is my favourite wedding band ever - hand engaged one one side, with pave on the other. The best of both worlds in my opinion! - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/victor-canera-hand-forged-diamond-pave-milgrain-band.159242/

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

The Julia is my favorite. I'd pass on the surprise diamonds/birthstones though if you plan on having more children. After my first niece was born I had a tattoo of her put on my shoulder, she thought it was so cool.....well 17 years later I have four more nieces, a nephew and a son, who all wonder why I don't have tattoos of them as well. :o Idk, maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal to some, but if I had more children than room to represent them all in a single piece I would pass. Of course this is all irrelevant if you don't plan on having more children. :))

All of your setting ideas are beautiful! I did have the Tacori 2502 for my former OEC and it was not a good choice for me. The inside of the Tacori was not polished and rather enclosed, thus the color and performance suffered in my opinion. You could actually see the gray come through from the enclosed basket when looking down at the diamond. Fast forward to today, and I have upgraded my stone to my dream OEC and put her in a Michael B Touch of Princess setting that is open. The performance is spectacular when looking at the sides because more of my diamond is now showing. No more "gray" from the top either and blinding OEC performance there too. Of course some of the performance improvement is due to a difference in the two OEC's... Here is a picture of my Michael B setting.

@CaratLover2- Thank you about my stone- love her so much. I know, these minute decisions are driving me nuts. But they are wonderful decisions to be able to make, right?!
I was thinking classic like Tiffany setting, but then read - I think in a thread from 2008 (details like that stick for some reason)- that damage to antique cushions happen when they are placed in a Tiffany setting with girdles all exposed!? That really stuck with me for some reason....I feel like I need to protect this baby because I think I am not rough but do have periodic "silly and clumsy" accidents all too often...it's something...BUT!!! I absolutely adore that wedding band!!! I have it tagged in my wedding band folder- I love the best of both worlds and it feels like a plain yellow gold shank - like begs or the tacori 2620 without pave would be a good simple- then getting a blingy band to balance it all is just classic.
THEN I think maybe a simple yellow gold band like my BF and putting the diamonds on the engagement ring would be more balanced..... oh man....so many ideas...
:naughty:

My son would be the last and only I am planning.....unless there is an accident ---but I am not planning on more? And if anything a #2 accidental occurrence (max I am open to) could knock out BF surprise stone and he can be represented in "another stone ring" ...hehehe :saint:
But this is a very good point I never even thought or considered.....good point....

kathley- this is very good to hear. I wondered about that- So am glad to hear about your Tacori experience and observations.....A friend of mine said "that would be hard to wear while you are cooking- stuff can get stuck in that basket" and since then have wondered about light performance due to food stuff...I would clean regularly don't get me wrong...but...
I love the open basket your Michael B. Touch of princess open setting! This is sooooooo good to know....I want her to shine freely and be herself..I can see that basket allowing that!...BTW..I love that ring overall too...it highlights the center....do you have a hand shot by any chance?

Keep the thoughts flowing everyone...suggestions... and honest thoughts are welcomed....they get my mind flowing to finalize....your experience is needed! :wavey:

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

Your stone is gorgeous!! I think my dream ring is an ACC in a yellow gold setting so I will be watching this thread very closely.

I love all the options you've selected - we have very similar taste. I'd probably do the Single Stone one personally. It offers excellent additional finger coverage and it so classic. And if it was me, I'd put the center stone in a delicate milgrained YG bezel too. I know most others here would say to never put a stone in a YG bezel as it may add warmth but I think it makes the diamond glow. I really love the look!

This ring in YG plus bezeled pear sides? Yummy yum yum:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/2-7c-cushion-in-rose-gold-milgrain-bezel-setting-from-erd.176615/

Any of those three (or a combo of elements) would be stunning!

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

I think whatever you go with, it'll definitely stand out!!! As I said in your other thread, I like the 2620...I haven't had any issues with darkening on mine and my stone is a G (set in plat). I totally know what you mean though about halos. I pretty much went back and forth between this specific setting and a round brilliant Tiff-style solitaire because I wanted my center stone to be...the center. Even though the halo is slight, it does add a good mm or so total of width (at least, but I didn't measure it).

I do love the ERD bezel though with the petal basket! Do you think you would like a bezel setting? Because I could see that being a real stunner as well and really emphasize the outline of the cushion.

Only other thing to bring up is I believe the SS settings are quite pricey. I think that would be a beautiful setting that could both accentuate and allow your cushion to shine, but see what the CAD comes back with and how you like it. Just something to keep in mind in case that is a factor!

OMG Rosebloom! You are in my head! What a combo to consider seriously!! That cushion in the bezel is in my ring folder saved!!! I had forgotten about it...you are giving me a serious idea!
That bezel is gorgeous and is what made me consider rose gold seriously. My hesitancy with the SS setting alone is the open nature of the center stone, but the bezel in yellow gold would be lovely. My concern is it would make my stone look yellow?- and do not want that....I can handle warmth but would a yellow gold bezel make it look yellowish? hmmmm....Megan Thorne's rings with the yellow gold framing is another one I loved-- check it out: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/which-nature-inspired-setting-do-you-like-best.175737/ and the bezel adds that love! My concern is - would a bezel make a stone look smaller or yellow? I like how my stone glows from the side but am seriously considering this YG bezel with pear sides! Any ideas on this? I have read that a bezel could be contrasting with the YG but then I also seen some stones where the YG made it more yellow? ahhh...decisions decisions...

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

I wish I knew the answer to that! Sometimes it seems to add warmth and sometimes the contrast seems to make the center stone pop and look whiter.

For eye candy, the World's Greatest Yellow Gold Ring (IMHO), our very own Coati's, an M-N looking mighty white:

Hi Pandabee- thanks for joining over here with my question. I needed to get a better title to attract more input on the setting...
Yes- that is my dilemma- I want the mm added with the 2620 halo, but don't want to detract from the center stone and make it "too much" and if I were to get it in YG the halo would be YG too and am wondering if it would defeat the purpose of adding that mm. That bezel is now a serious consideration...that ERD bezel with the pear shape is making me think...but see my previous comments to Rosebloom- the bezel brings up "things" that I wonder? The SS cost is a big reason I am looking at inspirations...so changing it would be the way to go....I trust my jeweler and have seen his work- particularly as he has worked on a friend's ring and I love its quality....and he is a jewelers jeweler- he is "old school" which my BF trusts and likes. I just need to decide what I want....decisions!

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

I remember reading somewhere on PS about someone who had a yellow gold bezel and the jeweler plated the inside of the bezel with rhodium to minimize yellow reflection. But unfortunately I can't find that thread now! For some reason I remember it being a Victor Canera ring but it very well may not be.

I did come across this thread with a platinum bezel and YG band which is also pretty:

Isn't Coati's ring awesome!!?? This is another one I have saved! There is so little yellow gold on here that when I see something I love I save it in the ring bookmark....wowzers - this is why I love the yellow gold and white contrast....
I wonder what makes it add contrast as opposed to warmth!??!?! Anyone with insight? Is it an open basket from under? Like Kathley's open basket with the solitaire and pave shank?
No clue- any insight anybody?

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

I wonder if you start a thread entitled "what does a yellow gold bezel do to a diamond's apparent body color?" some of the experts will chime in. I'll be watching as I'm eager to know the answer too!

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

Ok, Coati's three stone is G/H color:

Hmmmm...can anyone speak to this??I wonder if this is what VC or LM - antique cushion gurus do or what do they do to make sure the stone minimizes yellow reflection?
I hadn't seen this thread and saw how the James Meyer rings seems to have that culet open...I wonder if this is why the stone gives off fire....I am not an expert here so appreciate any input on this PSers? I think showing the culet like that is kind of nice....not sure of the platinum bezel- I prefer the YG bezel contrast even though I know it gives that illusion setting look...

I love Coati's 3 stoner!!! I saw Grace's rings in yellow gold in bezel and they were gorgeous...But look at Coati's ring...it is not so open in basket??
Good idea about the thread!! I will give it about a day and see ....

As far as exposed girdles go, I think you could minimise the risk by going with a 6 prong setting ... but judging from your comments I think you really like the idea of extra mm from a halo! Have you seen the tacori 2620 in person? I have a YG tacori, and the melee is very tiny - very, very tiny! I did not see this setting in person before I bought it, so I could not believe how tiny they were. I was shocked! And maybe a tad underwhelmed too  I think if you want a halo, the 2620 is probably not going to give you that "halo" look. It's very subtle and unless you LOVE IT, it's a heck of a lot of money to be spending on a setting, that's really not going to add much to the look of your stone. Don't get me wrong, I love the 2620! But it is extremely subtle and delicate.

I have to admit I'm quite partial to a split shank halo!! I think it would be yummy in YG too!

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

Hi. I took some photos with my i-phone, so they are not the best. But the side view shows how much of my diamond shows as my stone has a high crown and small table. My jeweler said with such a high crown that it was good that my setting had enough prong length to set my stone. Just a thought for you to possibly consider as well if your diamond has a high crown too.

CaratLover2 - you have a Tacori in YG with the subtle halo?!?!? Can you show it to me??? Post pics?! I have yet to see it in YG...and actually I think the subtleness is what I like....I am not too into halos (for this ring) but the 2620 melee adds that mm without overwhelming...do you have yours posted? I have been looking for one to see in YG forever! Close ups, handshots anything to see how it looks would be so helpful! Subtle and delicate is what I want -- I am more worried about it adding "too much" disturbance if that makes any sense....I will talk to my jeweler about the 6 prong--- I am thinking he may provide some insight to my concern about exposed girdle.....But any thoughts and voices are welcomed! :wavey:
Believe it or not this thread is helping me narrow and sit to think....
Split shank---mmmm----considered--- it is gorgeous....

Noted....high crown---prong length---question to ask my jeweler....I love these details---this is what my son says drives him crazy---it's how I mother I guess---obsessive details details....at the same time going with the flow is important....-- I am thinking of finalizing my idea to two, then presenting it to my BF to decide (when he has the attention to do so for "ladies things")...so keep the insights coming ladies....I am anxious to finalize and let the cards fall where they may when he decides final...I will take pic of crown when I get home later....

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

I have Tacori 2565 in yellow gold, not the 2620. Attached are a few pics. The centre stone is 1.2, so I think it shows how delicate the melee is!

I hope I'm helping! :loopy:

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

Not sure how much help this will be but I have a tacori in yellow gold (no halo) and I love it. The delicate work of the undergallery is scrumptious, I could look at the side profile all day. The yellow gold really makes the details and the stones pop. If you want, check my thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/tacori-2510-in-yellow-gold-with-oec.187012/

The pictures make the milgrain look a bit fuzzy but that's just my limited photography, their detail work is sharp and well-defined.

ETA: Not to thread-jack but CaratLover your setting is gorgeous!

Re: Help with setting for 1.43 Antique Cushion in Yellow Gol

Ohhh ... that's pretty! I like the graduated diamonds in the shank. Tacori really do make beautiful rings!

Maccers---- oooooooo...ahhhh...your ring and caratlover2 s are beautiful.
I love the detail and delicateness....the tone of yellow gold is gorgeous !

Though I love this...I am thinking of a solid yg shank....but the delicateness of tacori work is gorgeous...that gallery is gorgeous with so much detail.

Besides the settings....can I just say your OEC's are BOMB!!!
Gorgeous!!

Rosebloom- you are reading my mind on all my loves I swear.
The YG solid shank is my love I keep debating now...I showed it to my BF and had him visualize and imagine what my ideas are coming down to and which he would like for me.... He finally stopped and paused for a moment..I really think he is a little hyper and has a hard time focusing on stuff like this... I don't understand why it's so hard for him really... ;)) ..he is leaning towards the delicate tacori halo and the solid YG shank...he says its simply elegant...he loves my stone...but then he says he doesn't know...
I just reread that thread and the topic of the halo detail and diamond cut is very interesting. So beautiful right?!!?
I need to think...we are going to look at the tacori again in person together....but will see the SS setting in person too:-) get his juices flowing here too..he promised he will have the attention to focus....no more disappearing as we enter the building... :nono: he hates deciding on ladies things he says...
More pix and insight ??
