Help with setting for sapphire please

I really like the plain shank. To me, it puts the focus on your center stone, rather than trying to compete with it.

LD - I don't have an active job -- I sit at a desk, but I do travel overseas a lot and there are times I might not want to bring my e-ring or really anything too valuable, too delicate, too attention getting. So in that case having a plain band would be nice because then I could still wear that. In my day-to-day life I'm not especially worried about damaging a pave shank or pave or diamond wedding band. And yes, I've made plans to go to a jewelry store and try things on. You all are just so knowledgeable and think of things I'd never think of myself.

Nieseel -- it doesn't *HAVE to be one of those two settings but I tried on a ton of settings, including some with split shanks and halos. I do like split shanks but for some reason they don't seem like an engagement ring to me. (Odd I know!) I do think if I ever got a RHR it would likely have a split shank of some sort. I like the bezel band and I've thought about something like that with colored stones as well.

Pregcurious -- I did think about having two different bands. Seems like a lot, but maybe something to aspire to!

I can see both sides re pave on shank. However, to me it depends on the type of halo you have. The photo you posted to me looks better if there's diamonds on shank. Some halos have a final "wall" surrounding the diamond melee, and to me it's equally pleasing from a design perspective to have either a plain shank or a pave shank. Personally I'd do a plain shank with a halo that's walled in, but that's just my preference.

What i always like about the plain shank is the ability to wear a diamond band sandwiched between the e ring and a plain wedding band. Sense you want a plain w band that you can wear when traveling, or whatnot, its nice because you have one that is your actual w band (in case you are sentimental), and then at anniversaries or birthdays you can get different diamond bands to mix into the rotation.

at least, thats what i plan to do if i stay with this wedding band... but i agree, its more modern which does go well with your cut, but either one will look just beautiful!

TheElms: I certainly appreciate you posing the question, because I hadn't thought of 95% of what people are discussing and I'm learning right along with you!

It sounds like you have a good sense of what you like, that you're really thinking this through, and you might even have room (eventually) to switch around bands and rings some day with different styles.
