I'm very blessed that my fiance is letting me pick out my own ring. We went to a B&M this past weekend and both fell in love with a gorgeous setting - three stone oval trellis with pave down the side, very thin band (2 - 2.5mm). We came home and looked online, but can't find anything similar online so we're resigned to getting it from the B&M, which is fine.
The store had three of the exact same settings, one each for a 1.0 ct, a 1.25 ct, and a 1.5 ct center stone. We're looking to buy a center stone that falls somewhere between 1.0 ct and 1.25 ct.
My question is this - which setting would we purchase for a diamond that falls between the setting sizes? Can the 1.0 ct setting accomodate a larger center stone (maybe 1.15), or would you buy the larger 1.25 setting to accomodate a smaller diamond (1.15)? There's about a $600 difference in the cost of the two settings. I'm sure the salesman will be pissed because we're not buying the center stone from them, so I naturally assume that he will try to sell me the larger setting with the larger price tag. I don't have a problem with it, if that's the RIGHT choice to make. I just want to do the best thing for the safety of the center stone.
Thanks in advance!
