Mimi- is the file size/type okay?

Avatar upload settings:
File size (max): 100000 bytes
File size (min): 1 bytes
Supported file extensions: gif,jpg,jpeg,pdf,png,gem,dmc

Your avatar should be size: 96 pixels by 96 pixels or else it will look distorted

Thanks LizzieC --- I managed to triumph over my computer!!! --- and the picture isn''t that far off!!!

I love all the new avatars!!!

Now I feel like I need to go back and find me a prettier face!!! hahaha

My hair is actually longer....but this was the closest to my style!

I had a hard time finding a top too!...and I didn''t even check out the hat section!...oh, I do have a bag, you just can''t see it in this picture!
37.gif

I agree with a lot of what you all have said! I hate the hat options because none of the hair options work for me, why can''t you add a hat to your hair. And um yeah, body image! No way does my neck look the same size as my pinky finger! I would need to add like 50 pounds to my avatar, probably more to make it look like me. But it is nice to get a general idea of what all of us look like. It would be really funny to post pics next to our avatars to see the difference and resemblances. But I realize there are some privacy issues that could be related to that. Anyhoo I am loving all the new looks!

Hello everyone!

I just had to reply, to put my new Yahoo Avatar in with all of your great ones.
1.gif

I put it on my MSN pic too, and one of my friends said "I don''t like your new picture." And I was a bit taken aback, because my Avatar actually looks like me in general. But then she said "I don''t like the background, the colors are weird." And I explained that it was done as a full length person, with a complete background, and by cropping all of that out, that''s why the background might look weird.

PS: I was quite excited to put the earrings on my Avatar, because although I don''t wear earrings much, they represent the diamond studs my BF gave me for my law school graduation.

My only bling thus far...but at least he''s got good taste!

Hehehe thanks for putting up your pick! It was actually "all your fault" I even started to think about this. In one of my past posts you asked someone about the avatar thing and I searched through my old threads trying to find how to put my avatar up and it wasn''t working. Hence, this thread....

Did you see the Academy Awards dresses you can wear? The snake halter is hideous!

Indiejones ... thanks! Hey, are you Wren? If so - what happened?? Are you INCOGNITO?? Pricescope Protection Program??

Heh! You got it.

"What''s the name of the jewelry forum you''re always on?" "You haven''t mentioned me, have you?" "What did you say about me?" "What was that forum''s name again?"

Run away Run away!

Although, on that front I probably shouldn''t have put up a yahoo avatar.

Fortunately yahoo doesn''t have an add 50 lb button, so it doesn''t look quite like me!

LOL

I was thinking of putting on the white ball gown but figured I should wait until I''m actually engaged!
2.gif

Oh, I loved the white gown! I kept putting it back on, but figured that it wasn''t the most, um, representative outfit. But I do wear pearls a lot, and that seemed like the only way to put them on! (They came with the dress.)

My boyfriend was just over, and I asked him if my new avatar looks like me. He seemed almost stunned at the resemblance, and kept looking back and forth.

And I don''t think anyone expects our little cartoons to have the same body proportions as us. Could you imagine a real girl looking like that?!?

I wonder how many of us tried on that white gown?

LOL

But my favorite outfit is the one I'm wearing, the pirate costume! There wasn't an outfit with a bull whip.
31.gif
Good thing it's not obvious what the costume is, cause it's almost as much of a giveaway as my first avatar with my doggy-monster.

I love being able to see your 'faces', it makes it even more like chatting with friends.

Do you have a PC or a Mac?

For a PC, there''s a PrtScrn button or something on your keyboard and it will take a photo of your screen and you can save it on your computer and crop it down to just the pic of your avatar.

If you have a Mac, there should be an application in your Application folder called Grab. Start it up and then select the area on y our screen that you want to save.

Does that help?

I must be the only person who can''t figure this out, I have a mac and I can''t figure out how to grab it, I can''t right click and copy it, it doesn''t give me that option, and I don''t have a print screen button, any other suggestions sunkist or anyone???

I think someone said that with a mac you can take a "screen shot?" Not sure, maybe someone else will chime in...

Print Screen is actually a PC thing.

Diamonds.....When you are creating an avatar off to the right of the webpage there are a few options of what you can do with it. I think the second or third little blurb has a link to EXPORT your avatar. Through that you can download it as a picture onto your computer. I chose the bigger version of my avatar to crop down because it puts a purple Y in the corner for yahoo. This way you can get rid of it. And then just crop the photoe so it is 96x96 and make sure it is in a compatible format like jpeg. Bitmap images will not load onto PS. Hope that helps!

I have a mac at home and just figured out how to do it! YEA! (I grabbed mine at work on my PC)

Go to the yahoo page (I have to use Firefox to use the yahoo avatar program) and press apple-shift-4. This will give you a little crosshair instead of the arrow. Set it on the corner of your avatar and stretch it across. When you unclick, it will save a file on your desktop called Picture 1. When you open it you can crop and edit at will and save it as a jpg file.

I''m so glad I took the time to figure this out... I can use this for a lot of stuff now! PS is so applicable to everyday life!

LOL! It has definitely improved my photoshop skills!

I have made my spring appearance!

I did notice I now look a lot like elle woods, but my skin tone appears slightly paler.

Macs have a nifty little utility program called ''Grab''. It''s in the utilities folder in the applications folder. You can get it to take screen shots of just the thing you draw a little box around. very handy!

It just took my forever to even get it this far and I tried to get it 96 x 96 and it cropped it big time and wouldn''t upload, and I can''t get grab to work, I''m a little annoyed...

Hmmm. Starting with doubleclicking on the grab program. Grab opens. Go to Dashboard and select program you want to get a pic from. With the window with the yahoo avatar visible and on top, go back to Dashboard and select grab. You should still see your browser with the yahoo page. In Grab, click on the menu heading Capture and then Selection. A small window will pop up saying ''Selection Grab'', and your mouse arrow will have #''s next to it. Move the Selection Grab window if it''s blocking what you want an image of. Click on the top left hand corner of where you want your image to start. Holding the mouse button down drag open a little red boundry box that will surround what you want to capture. Release the mouse button and it will make a camera shutter sound and Voila! you have a pic of what you selected. Save As a jpeg, and reopen the file in PhotoShop. There''s a menu selection called Image size which will allow you to resize your image to 96x96.

When I double click on grab it doesn''t open anything, it just puts it in the bottom bar, my dashboard only has a clock, calculator, calendar, and weather....also, i only have iPhoto, not photoshop. i am going to keep playing with this but I have an iBook G4, does anyone have this exact computer who has done this??? I am able to draw a selection with a red box in grab but them where does it save it?

I have an ibook G4, and was successful at it. Also don''t have photoshop, but the basic picture editor that opened it was enough to size and crop. For me, it saved it to the desktop with the name "Picture 1" but since I did it about 15 times before I figured out it was working, my desktop was littered in "picture"s. Check the desktop, and then maybe check your pictures or documents folder to see if it went there. When I used the grab program from the application itself, I was able to size it while grabbing, but when I used the shortcut keys of apple-shift-4, I had to open it from the desktop and edit it.

Also, I''m going to take a guess that Indie is talking about your dock, not your dashboard. When you open the grab application, it puts a scissors icon in the dock. I don''t think the dashboard figures in at all. Give it another shot.

No wonder I could never manage to teach my mother how to use a computer!

I''m actually considering playing with one of these. I just get so frustrated with all of their stupid options. The eyes on one option and the lips on another look me, but they aren''t together. I dont like any of the clothes either and the ones I do like have their arms in a freaky looking position. Oh well, at least they do have my hair style. Now I just have to resize it to fit.

Well, mine''s up but those lips look weird.

It''s very cute! If it''s any consolation, none of us look exactly like our avatars... I never show my teeth when I smile. EVER. And yet I can''t make those teeth go away. It does sort of irritate me. Maybe I should go edit my avatar? Fill in the lips a bit more? hmm...

Thank you so much sumbride, I got it almost how I want it but now I know how to do it so I can perfect it later, I could have never figured that out on my own!
