At least the vendor disclosed the heat and diffusion treatment whereas some on eBay don't even bother. Opaque and shows zoning.

chrono, i found another and im not looking to buy but to be educated and have some nice posts setup
for other star sapphire buyers on here to take examples

what do you think of this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLUE-STAR-SAPPHIRE-AND-DIAMOND-14K-GOLD-RING-/310677244122?pt=US_Fine_Rings&hash=item4855ce88da

i personally think it looks alright from the side view but it looks opaque in the star photo, but that does not always mean it will be opaque!
it is alot of factors that will decide the opaque or translucence .

this next one looks a bit like diffusion but you be the judge

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ladys-Natural-Blue-Star-Sapphire-Ring-14K-womens-Size-5-FREE-sizing-saphire-/111085805923?pt=US_Fine_Rings&hash=item19dd3ae163

my opinion the color is kind of weird with the star i havent seen too many looking this way before

The second, or rather third star sapphire looks like that due to the use of flash during photography. The problem with sapphires, even star cabochons, is that I cannot tell whether it has undergone low heat or surface diffusion. Often times, the owner isn't aware of this either. Low heat "cleans up" the cabochon a little, making the star pop more without destroying the silk that makes the star. Surface diffusion gives it a prettier body colour on an otherwise non-saleable stone. Such treatment does not affect the star or rutile.
