Ok, apologies about yesterday. I couldn't say what I was buying because I wanted to wait until it was mine! It is!

It's a natural grey diamond 0.81ct, SI1 with dimensions of 5.1 x 5.9 x 4.0. I can see pink/brown flashes and a little smokiness. I'm hoping that it will be very steel grey as opposed to a brownish grey - the seller tells me that the real life colour is much more like the still photo rather than the video so fingers crossed. I've put together a montage of the video of the stone and the still photo below.

So, now you've seen it, how would you set it???????? I need inspiration please! :loopy:

Exquisite. And, to me, it doesn't really read as "heart," so I don't think you have to worry about it looking too girly. I think the color mitigates that.

Forget the leaf idea, I think Pixies is on the right track with her James Meyer-type suggestion.

Rose gold, or surround it with pink melee like sapphires). :Up_to_something: I also saw a grey diamond in black gold with white melee, which was kind of cool. Nice even grey color, and not cloudy, which is hard to find in a grey diamond. It's lovely, enjoy!!

I'm not a heart person, but I really, really like this. Plus, the steely grey color neutralizes some of the girliness that I know you'd like to avoid. I was going to post yesterday that I thought you should just embrace the heart shape, rather than camouflage it. I've seen some designs where a leaf swoops over part of a stone, and it just looks sort of hidden - kind of like you're playing a 'spot the gemstone' game. I guess I just like the gemstone to be front and center in jewelry, but that's just my own peculiar taste. Are you leaning towards a ring, or perhaps a pendant? What about black diamond or black spinel melee?

Yup, I agree with the Caleb Meyer.....
With your stone though, I don't view it as being set in anything kitschy or cutesy....
It is absolutely brilliant but sophisticated looking, to me anyway

WOW - what a gorgeous stone! When I read "grey diamond" I wasn't sure what I would see - something like a grey-lavender spinel perhaps? Or a smokey/ash diamond? But this, this is such a beautiful color, it just seems "luxe" or "satin" or something marvelous - I can see why this is a treasure!

Ideas for setting? And have it be not-heart-ish? Like you, I do not favor heart-shaped stones (or heart-shaped anything), but this grey diamond is so magnificent - it rises above its shape and just is. Anyway, my first thought is to go relatively simple, a split-shank open-bridge bezel ring in platinum, but then play with the sides - a tiny shiny something (ruby or white diamond?) set on each side where the shank splits, and maybe teeny pearls (white or grey) running up the split shanks?

Such a lovely prize - and what a fun project - can't wait to see what you decide on and how it turns out.

Thank you all. What wonderful suggestions you've all made. Truly inspirational. I was already posting so haven't had a chance to fully take on board your comments but will go back now and read carefully.

I want to make it into something I can wear a lot. For example, I wear my black diamond pear with white diamond halo lots! I'm thinking that white diamonds may be a great contrast.

I love the top photo with a plain bezel but I think it's going to be too small for this :(sad

How about something based on this Tiffany ring - so tension set but with pave bands top and bottom.

Or

I found this silver ring. How about this in 18k w/gold with the grey diamond in the centre, held in place by white diamond beads???

Anybody able to photoshop them for me?

I photoshopped something in this position but I dont think you want to see it

I love the stone! Very sophhisticated!

I agree with an earlier post, I think it transcends it's shape, because of the gorgeous color. Now you have to tell us where you got it! :naughty:

I would like to see it set in a simple white diamond halo, on a rose gold ring. I think the play of colors would be fun! :appl:

I also love your idea of the heart between 2 diamond bands, that would be stunning. :cheeky:

Gorgeous addition to your already-gorgeous collection, LD!

Something like this, but with the heart suspended between the bands?

Knox Jewelers

VL, could you Photoshop that?

Ooooooh Aoife - I love the Knox one. That's similar to the Tiffany one I posted above. I really like that! I also love the Art of Platinum one but I really think the diamond will be too small to stand on it's own and needs something to make it appear bigger!

VL - any chance you could do some photoshopping please? BTW I'm interested in the upside down heart - would love to know what you'd put that in!!!

aoife, i can

Thank you VL! I like the look of that. I think the white diamonds would need to be very white (and the white gold too) to make the grey stand out.

I don't suppose you could photoshop the heart into the big silver ring I posted above could you please (the one with the gold heart in the centre)?

The color completely wipes out any suggestion of kitschy-ness or cuteness, as others have said. The entire cut is so good, even if its shape isn't your first choice -- I'll bet it sparkles well! All in all, I think it's a smashing successful buy! I really like Aoife's 2nd photo suggestion with the single pave band letting that gray beauty take center stage.

Oooooo VL - can you put it between these two bands please? This is my wedding band with an eternity band either side. I think that if I remove my wedding ring I could put the heart between the two and then add in some strengthening structures at the side and it might work!

quite different shape but

Thanks, VL!

The other thought that occurred to me, playing on the Leon Mege idea, but adjusted for the size of the stone: How about an Etoile-type setting, with the diamond in a half bezel in the middle?

Strangely I like this! It's unusual. I've turned it the other way up to get a really good look.

Thank you VL for bringing this to life.

Aoife - I can see what you mean and it's another possibility. You've got some great ideas. Thank you.

VL - my thanks again. I'm now torn because I can see how it would look gorgeous between the two white diamond bands but I also like the unusual more bulky ring posted before. I think I'll wait to see until it arrives and try it between the bands!

I really appreciate your help.

I'd probably do a bezel pendant in silver or rhodium-plated white gold, with the chain connected to the bumps of the heart. It's a beautiful and unusual stone!

I am still pretty new here. But, I just wanted to say that I love the stone. I do not like heart shaped stones for the most part, but this diamond is the exception. I think you have done a great job picking out something uniquely beautiful. I have no design ideas, but with all the help here I am sure you will come up with something superb. I just love looking over these threads. Good luck!

Congratulations, LD!
I KNEW it was going to be a diamond... I was watching your thread and did not contribute because I, really, had nothing to say about the shape. I just wanted to say that I used to hate heart-shaped stones till very recently, when I realized that it really did not matter at all, provided the color was the right one. But when everyone was asking about a stone, and you said it was very small, I knew it was going to be a diamond (I was wrong about the color, though; I thought, pink!)

About the setting... I like the plain one with a shank with diamonds on the sides. The "fanciest" is interesting but in reality if it is yellow gold, and I think you like yellow, optically it may distract from the beauty of the diamond. I'd say, it looks great, and the heart is, really, as good as any other form!

I don't want to put this idea into anyone's head, like the uterus / dangly balls thought,
however,
when I see the bulky ring idea I think "Lampshade"

sorry

love the color of this....very unusual and to my eye "industrial" type color. very steely. cool, calm, colected stone.

loving diamonds posted some pictures higher up. 2nd picture with two bands and hearts inserted between around the band.

i see your stone set into this but w/o the other hearts. even with the other hearts for that matter.

its a lovely stone and i'm not into hearts. i think this stone stands on its own.

I would do this with dark rhodium plated metal.

I forgot to say that I Really like the stone too despite being cut in a derriere shape. Where did you find it, and do they have any more? I really love both the color and the cut (that's cut as opposed to shape, though Im discovering that the heart shape can be set to look other than hearty). I wouldnt mind some black diamond melee with it in oxidized metal, and no I am not Goth at all.

Even though I don't consider myself to be Goth, everyone thinks I am. Maybe that's why I like the gunmetal grey gold with the stone.

beautiful shape!! Love that steely color.

i love my ring from daniel M. The profile makes it easy to pair w/ stacking bands on either sides. I think it would suit yours heart's shape really well... :)
