I''m not K-Mom but I AM a mom, so my advice is to wear sunscreen!

And wear your bathing suit...no jeans on the beach, young lady!

haha i bought a pair of black capris at kohls today for 14 bucks. They have little "cinches" at the bottom of each leg. I can wear em dressy and sloppy. Those are my "safe" pants. Coverups and for dinner.

So not kmom, but I''ve spent some time in her neck of the woods...

If you are going to the big island, a volcano day is a must. It''s a long day of driving, but well worth it. Take good sneakers or other shoes to wander rougher paths with.

Take some shoes for the beach/ocean -- sometimes it''s rocky or hot. TiVAs, snorkling booties, or something of the sort are good. Bug spray is good -- I always get eaten alive my first day there...

If you aren''t into tanning, take or buy there a big floppy hat. The sun is WAY stronger than you are used to , so you''ll tan/burn quickly. Sunscreen is another biggie.

I tend to buy sarongs when I am there. They just wrap around and cover up without being constricting. Real, closed, clothes that you would wear everywhere else just feel hot and restrictive once you hit that humidity. Loose, flowing light weight dresses are also good...


Anyway... not a local, but since kmom seems to be AWOL (I think she has been having computer trouble) thought these things might be helpful... If you want sprcific recommendations or places to go or eat, we''ve been to a lot of them, so PMme, and maybe I''ll have ideas.

We are going to spend Wed. on the Big Island doing a Volcano walk thingie. We need to make sure of what it still is. I want to see it hit the water. Bad.

I want to buy a sarong while we are there, definitely. It might be my only "souvenier". I have capri''s for wearing around there, a nice black pair and a Nike pair for the hike. I am packing two pairs of shorts as well, both nice. I have every possible tshirt in the world to bring, all Old Navy fitted ones, I also have flipflops and nice shoes that can get soaked and dry well even for the hike. I might pack one more pair too. What kind I don''t know.

Definitely PM me some Restaurant recs on Oahu and Maui. We will be in Waikiki for the first few days and then Maui the last few, Kaanapali beach specifically.
