Oooh fun! madelise, you can still join us! Just don't throw out "your" names specifically! I'll wait for my other comments to share in the other thread.

Good thread Audball, I love hearing about the progress of other LIW's.

Magpie09 - The Royal Crown is a classic looking ring, I hope you get your perfect version... soon! ~DUST~
MayFlowers - Major dust for YOUR job, you'll always get what you deserve. Enjoy a happy anniversary.
titian23 - Sending boat loads of dust your way!!!! Fingers crossed, I'll be waiting for pics & a story soon.
madelise - Keep hittin' the books, sounds like your SO knows how to get you motivated lol!
maebelle - WOW! I would be pulling my hair out waiting for the insurance, I'm also looking forward to pics & your story.

As for myself (#13 eeeek) life has been going great. SO opened his company in November, so that has been a huge step for us. Start up fees, staff, phone lines, product and commercial rent is insane. With the amount he's spent and paid back he could have bought my e-ring 10 times over. He's very smart with money though, so I know that waiting until he has all those other debts paid down is what's best. I could use some dust for his company though, as soon as things are running smoothly we'll be set. We have everything else we could want right now like our house, good jobs, health and great family /friends. The ring and wedding will just be the cherry on top.

This summer we'll be celebrating our 7 year anniversary, seriously where does the time go?!? I'll be getting back from a 3 week vacation (with my ladies) the day before our anniversary. Preparing for the trip has been keeping my mind off of engagement. I've also been really focused on going to the gym and have totally been sucked into yoga too. I want to be in great condition for my trip (it's going to very adventurous), but I also want to look great in my engagement & wedding photos. Speaking of photos, my friend is a professional photographer and has given me a credit for referring new clients to her. I told SO about this, and although he thinks engagement photos are cheesy he was happy when I told him and we talked about what we would wear and the location.

I have no idea what my timeline is at this point, basically whenever he gets the business up and running smoothly. Our plan is to go to GOG and make a trip out of it, we're very open with each other about the ring and engagement. We'll be getting an AVR in a tapered baguette setting that's a trellis style with claw prongs. We also have our wedding venue decided on, it's a cozy cottage like setting on the lake and will be a weekend event/getaway for our guests. I'm really hoping this next summer will be our turn to walk down the aisle.

Wow, that all sounds amazing!!! You both sound very busy and lots of ***DUST*** to you and SO for great success for his company!! Even without a timeline, it sounds like you have most everything figured out and you're just enjoying the last few months as a GF. Hooray and keep us updated!!!

OMG I feel like that first paragraph could have been written by me. SO opened his own company last fall, as well. So I've been sitting still, listening to him talk about how all his $ that he earns is just being put straight back into the company into advertisements and hiring of new staff and etc. I'm like :errrr: you could have bought a ring already!!

You're lucky to have a friend that is a photographer! I wanted to take annual photoshoots of us, to keep as memories as we grow older, but they're so pricey! I finally found a deal on Living Social and will be having our first photoshoot this summer. Mind sharing what you're planning on wearing/location/theme? :)

Have fun on your upcoming trip, and congrats on 7 years!! :D You beat Kim Kardashian's wedding by 3500% already :X

Good idea! Andrew and I have been together nearly a year and don't have many pictures of us together. We should try and do this! I have a photographer friend, I wonder how much it would be to get a few taken every year...

dooooo ittttt! And with digital files, you don't even need them printed out! I got the idea from a previous relationship, from HS. We had photos from every single dance we participated in, and I loved watching how we changed, even with just a few months in between. Besides, ALL YOUR FB FRIENDS WANT TO SEE!

aww yeah audball that would be really sweet! yeah I agree that with digital photos now it's either harder or easier to keep track of relationships. harder because you don't have the actual photos unless you print them out, everything is on the computer or online. easier because people just take way more photos (but it's also harder to sort through). sadly DBF and I don't have many pics together either. I wonder how he would feel about a random photo shoot sometime hehe. I was joking with a friend once that if I was actually an immigrant and had to prove our relationship to the government, I'm not sure we would have enough photo evidence to prove that we've been together for almost 2 years lol :?

I'm also very into "power" names. I don't like "cutesy" ones. I don't want to give them names that might hinder them from winning a presidential election, or get a job as a President or CEO somewhere. Like. "Timmy". It has to be Timothy!

Ditto this, big time. When discussing baby names one time, BF told me he liked a certain cutesy name for a girl...it took all I had to not give him a disgusted look because I knew there's no way a girl named that would ever be President, and I told him so. He just chuckled and said I'm weird, but he now understands that I'll be taking this baby-naming thing seriously. Hah!

What was the cutesy name he liked, star sparkle?

I'm wary of posting it here because I don't want anyone to get offended if that's their name. I'll send it to you on FB when I get a chance.

We've got a president named Barack Hussein Obama. Not trying to bring politics in(I love him, I know half of you don't :)), but if someone with such a foreign name can be elected, I think a Penny Pumpernickel could be :)

Just saying :) I do understand though!

Funny how there are certain stigmas associated with some names. Hmm how about Cortnie (yes I have seen it spelt like this) or Candy? I mean no offence!

It's true. Some names are just perceived poorly. We do have a President named Barack, but Magpie makes a good point...if you were on a hiring committee, would you be likely to take a girl named Candy seriously?

I really love the name Candace, but I wouldn't choose it for fear that someone would get the idea to call her Candy... :errrr:

I get where you're coming from. To me, though, a name like Barack sounds powerful regardless of whether it's a "foreign" name or not. But to me, if I were introduced meeting a person for the first time named something like, I dunno, Mandy/Carly/Candy/etc, I would probably have a difficult time taking them seriously at first. Does that mean they can't be awesome, powerful, competent women? Absolutely not, but first impressions are important and I'd hate to give my hypthetical baby a name that would put her at a disadvantage right from the get-go because people perceive her name as "cutesy" and therefore don't think she's someone to be taken seriously.

(And again, no offense to anyone who might be named any of the names I've mentioned or absolutely love those names.)

Have you guys seen the episode of Tyra Banks where she has a "committee" describe the personalities and beings of names of people they don't know? Names are powerful. I think the majority of people didn't mind Barack's name because it's foreign. So we don't have any stigmas attached.. because we never knew a stripper named Barack. However, he DID get a whole whopping lot of attacks due to his middle name! And it's only his middle name! And I agree with Star_Sparkle, Barack sounds "powerful", even if I've never heard it prior to our president.

Hey guys! So, the other day, I went house-hunting online just for fun. I entered all the things that BF and I both want in a house, just to see if we could get everything we wanted within our budget. Well, I found our DREAM HOUSE!  I mean it literally has everything we have both dreamed of wanting in a house. It is absolutely gorgeous and the thought of it actually being our's makes me all giddy inside.

So, with that, we are also both very worried and anxious that it will be gone before I get a job. If I were to sign a contract for a full time job either this month or next, we have the money to go ahead and put an offer in on the house and move in even though I won't get paid until September. But, without the assurance of my income, we obviously can't do anything until I sign a contract.

So, please please please send me some extra special job dust/prayers/thoughts!

Haha, yes this idea of house shopping spurred a seriousness in us too. SO says he wants to buy a house SOON. As in, soon-soon. As in, it might come as a priority before any proposals :knockout: UGH. I brought it up to him after the dates thread, and he said, "I've been looking at homes at x, y and z. Can you figure out where has better public school systems? We can go look at them in a few weeks."

I don't know if it's a "YAY!" moment or a "D'OH!" moment for me yet.

I'm happy that you found your dream house :). Pics of what you like? I just want a fenced in front or back yard :P That's my biggest worry. My little doggyfriend needs a place to run around safely in. Oh, and a red door :P

********DUSt********* for your job and dream house!!!

MayFlowers!!!! Dust************************************* sounds exciting!

madelise! I'm not sure whether or not to say YAY or OH NO! House hunting is fun and exciting :) How do you feel about buying a home together before you're engaged? Or before you've finished school?

ETA: We should start a LIW House Hunters thread! :) :naughty:

****dust**** mayflowers!!!!! I hope you are able to get your dream house!!!

MF -- is that one job still a maybe option for next year? The one your friend has now?

Thanks everybody for the dust!

audball, I'm pretty sure it is. The assistant principal had said I should know more by the end of April, but I haven't heard from her. I know she is under a lot of stress with end of the year things, state testing and the fact that the principal is leaving (as I'm sure the AP has applied for that job herself). I thought about calling and asking, but was told by another teacher that I might come off as naggy if I do that. I'm not really sure since I'm very comfortable with the AP and don't think she would think of me like that. I'm going to *try* to wait another week and if I still haven't heard from her, then I will call. Thinking about it all just makes my stomach turn in knots because I'm so terrified I won't get a job again.

The picture is almost exactly what the house looks like from the outside. This one looks like it might have a walkout basement, which our house doesn't have. But, everything else is almost the same. It's on about 4 acres, just outside of town. So, it's not very far away, but still out in the country enough that we will be away from the busy-ness of the city. My favorite part is that the kitchen has a bar, there are two full bathrooms and the garage. Actually, I don't really have one favorite about this house, because I love it all so much!

This really is like the house we have always dreamed of, but never thought we would find.

Wow MayFlowers that house looks amazing. Lots of job dust heading your way!!

Mayflowers, congrats on finding your dream home and good luck with your job I hope it works out with perfect timing for you!

Well I am back from my holiday and he didn't ask while we were away ::) but by the time we were leaving for our holiday I had a pretty good feeling he wouldn't ask and I am surprised to say it didn't actually bother me. We had a great time and I know it is going to happen sometime this summer so I am glad I was able to just enjoy our holiday. Sorry - no movement from me yet!

Aww. I'm sorry. But at least you didn't let it affect your mood! Summer is RIGHT around the corner! Soon enough!! :appl:

titian, so glad that you were able to enjoy your holiday even without a proposal!!

Thanks everyone for the dust! Unfortunately, the house has already sold :( I'm not surprised since it was a great house and at a great price. I haven't looked at houses since it sold and I really don't think I can for a while, unless I get a job. That house was just so seriously PERFECT that everything I look at doesn't even come close to it. I know everything happens for a reason, so hopefully there is something out there that is better than that house.

But, the good news is that your dust has worked a little magic! I got a call on Tuesday from a county here looking to set up an interview with me. He told me his clerk would call to schedule the interview within a day or so. I haven't heard back yet, so I think I will go ahead and call them back today. I don't want to be a nag, but I also don't want to lose an opportunity because I waited too long to call back. Plus, I am going on vacation next week with BF's stepmom, sister and nieces and I'm not sure what kind of cell phone service I will have there. So I want to get it scheduled before we leave. I will probably call them around 9 or 9:30 today.
