Where are you gals going on your honeymoon? We''re debating betwen Hawaii and Tahiti, so I''d love to hear your experiences w/ either of those locations.

Hi Peonygirl, We are thinking about Hawaii because neither one of us has gone there before, and that it is relatively close to CA so we don''t spend too much time on the air travel. I hope Hawaii is going to be still warm and beautiful in September!!!

May I ask if you are affiliated with either UCSD or any of the scientific institutes in SD? I am trying to decide where to do my post-doc, and was wondering if you could help me with some information. Thanks!

Sorry, I'm not affiliated w/ UCSD (I went to school out of state). My dad is a professor there, but he's in the social sciences. I would try individually contacting the professors you're interested in working with and seeing if they have post-doc positions available. Sometimes if you can pay your own way via an NSF or NIH grant, a prof will be willing to create a position for you.

Thanks! How is your wedding planning coming along?? My fiance is checking out Coronado Island Marriott today. Have you seen it?

We''re planning on a Mediterranean cruise. Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) a couple stops in Greece (Santorini and some place else that I''m forgetting) and Barcelona. I''m so, so excited.

Nope, we haven''t checked that one out. We only checked out about six places. Wedding planning has been going pretty well, but since we don''t live in SD we can only plan in spurts when we visit. So far we have our ceremony/reception location, officiant, band, DJ, and wedding party picked. When is your wedding date again? Ours is June 10, 2007.

EBree, that''s great! I''ve been to all of the Italian cities you mentioned, and they were great. Rome is my favorite city in all of Europe. :)

I''ve been to all three too, and I *loved* the experience. FI''s never been to Europe, so when we were talking about possible honeymoon ideas, I brought it up. He loved the idea!

I don''t think you could go wrong with Tahiti or Hawaii. Though I haven''t been to either, I''ve seen other couple''s honeymoon plans (mostly in Hawaii) and they look amazing.

I have also been to Rome, Florence, Venice. Rome is the most fun place for tourists, but I love venice for its unique characteristic. Enjoy your honey moon!

Peonygirl, our wedding will be on Sept. 1, 2007.

Venice is beautiful, but because of all the water the mosquito problem is horrible in the summer. I was wearing industrial strength DEET bug spray all over my whole body but I managed to get two bites on each EYELID because obviously you can''t spray chemicals there. My eyes swelled completely shut for two days which is no fun on vacation. Ah the memories.

I went in August, but you should be fine in May, EBree. Def bring bug spray just in case though!

PG I have posted on here previous re: tahiti, in fact in another gal''s thread last week? I don''t want to wax poetic on it again, but we loved Tahiti, the island we went to etc. It was great. Hawaii is great too but we can go there anytime from CA whereas Tahiti is farther and we were already in Hawaii for our wedding. We are dying to return hopefully next year to both Hawaii and Tahiti! Either one is great IMO.

We spent 2 weeks in Hawaii last September for our honeymoon and loved every minute of it! We came from the east coast though, so it was a big trip for us. Here is the thread i posted on it: NJC''s Honeymoon

zhuzhu - Hawaii in September was awesome... 80-85 everyday, not very much rain. We actually waited a month after our wedding because the prices dropped quite a bit after Labor Day (we saved almost $1k). It was also nice to be able to get our house back in order, gift put away, pack, etc before we left.

We were actually planning on Tahiti or Fiji, but we''re only going to have 5 days because my FI can''t take off any more than that from work and I didn''t want to spend 1/3 of our honeymoon on a plane and then have to deal with jet-lag too. I still want to go really bad, though. I think we''re going to Antigua or St. Lucia.

We are honeymooning where we are getting married, Antigua. We love the Caribbean and hope to see every island eventually. Hawaii is beautiful too. I lived there for 3 years and fell in love with it. I have heard wonderful things about Tahiti, too (from Mara and others

). I would love to go to Australia, and will eventually, but it was not economically feasible nor did we have the time needed to really enjoy it. Good luck with your choice though.

All the suggestions so far sound wonderful! Makes me want to change our plans!
