hot pink spinel resetting question and taking pictures quest

When I post pictures of this spinel the colour looks less saturated on my smartphone and laptop screen compared to real life. This must be so frustrating to vendours! Any tips? Is it better to photograph up close or from far to capture colour? I had to stop what I was doing and take a picture of the pink agains my green bird because it looked so cool.

Also, how would you reset this spinel if you were to start from scratch? Is a sapphire halo too much? What coloured halo or plain gold setting/colour would you use?

Btw, what's the measurement or carat weight of your stone? I'll usually take that into consideration when deciding how big the halo should go. And the colour to use.

Thanks Snowyrin! It is 0.85ct and 5.5mm round. I am open to anything and have even posted it to sell because I am so stumped with it. Can you tell I am frustrated?

Yes, I can feel your frustration. But I personally feel it's not easy to come across a round hot pink spinel, therefore for collection sake I won't sell my loose stones or jewelry.

Do you stack your rings? What about a collection of stackable rings?



A sapphire halo sounds fun too!

PS desaturated your pictures and there's nothing we all can do about it. Most vendors colour correct their photos; some do it for colour accuracy, others do it to make the gem look better than it really is.

As for setting, I don't where to start because you have provided little guidance:
1. Budget
2. Stock or custom
3. Style (modern or antique, prong or bezel, halo or accent diamonds or plain, etc)

You are right I didn't specify anything. This project will be down the road so I am really open right now. I am thinking something that does not make it look princessy, so maybe a bezel. I am thinking simple and inexpensive. That being said a diamond halo similar to what Snowyrin posted would be gorgeous. If I went with this I would want diamonds (or coloured stones) around the spinel only, not on the sides. I am open to any metal colours and am really liking how the pink looks against white gold in other posts. Mixed metal would be great. I will look through SMTB posts for inspiration.

Another issue I've noticed with pictures are that the colors appear more accurate on my Mac than on my work PC, and 2 other PCs I have at home.

Time to consider a mac! I am leaning towards diamond halo white and rose gold.
