We are closing in on Summer.
So what are the swimsuits of choice around here?

i''m a bikini gal even though i haven''t always had the bod to wear one quite so proudly..i just don''t like tons of material when i am swimming or on vacation or tanning.

VS has tons of options this year, so tempting. but i already have something like 5 bikinis...hehee. but i may be tempted this year to get one or two more!

i like that they are coming out with more bottom options than just the same old 3 or 4 that are out there...i like the low tie ones and the low hipster ones that can maximize my short waist area, and make me look longer.

is it just me or does the high hipster full coverage ones and the big strapped in boobie tops not really flatter ANY figure? even the stick thin VS models look dowdy in them.

I haven''t started shopping this year yet (I always tell myself at the beginning of the season that the ones I already have are enough...I''m sure I''ll change my mind soon though!

) but I LOVE all J Crew bathing suits. Almost all of my last like 10 are from there. I just love the material and the fit and the patterns...sigh...I think I have to go over and look at this season''s crop now, THANKS SEVENS!!!

hehe.

albi, JC does have some cute ones this year...my last 2-3 are from JC during their seasonal sales, you can get the best deals!

ETA my fave right now on JC is the Florentine Paisley in the blue/green/yellow with the halter top and the hipster keyhole bottom with the dangling shells, too cute.

Hehehe, I''m back from the J Crew website!

I totally want the seersucker ruffle tie-front bikini. Siiigh.

Mara - yeah, I''ve also gotten a couple from their outlet stores off season, where each piece is like $8! That is the BEST FEELING EVER!

But it''s always really hard to match tops and bottoms when they''re cheap. But it is possible!

And now here is a pic of my new craving.

I am definitely a bikini girl since I was 6 yrs old. I did wear one piece when I was actually doing laps, but I haven''t done that for a long time. I am definitely due for another bikini since I only have one now.

I''m a bikini girl too. I need to get to the maul this weekend for our trip in 2 weeks. But I usually wear J Crew or suits from Cameo. It''s a chain I think???

I go back and forth between bikinis and one pieces. Sometimes I feel shy or fat so I have my trusty one piece (but it is low cut so it is still sexy) I think I am going to get a strapless one to avoid any unslightly tan lines (they seem SO hard to get rid of). I don''t think strapless are the most flattering in suits on me but I know it is better for the long run.

I love JC for swimwear, I like the brown and ivory iris print bikini they have out now, there is also a matching sundress!

I have the worst time with one-piece suits...I''m too tall for regular sizes, but not tall enough for the long torso ones! I ordered 3 long torso one pieces from JC last year when they were on super sale, and they are all TOO long!

Definitely a bikini girl. My torso''s just so long that it''s hard to find one-pieces that fit.

But I''ve started swimming every morning, and am beginning to feel a bit self-conscious being the only one in the pool in a bikini while everyone else is wearing a Speedo. Last time I tried on Speedos, the longest one they had didn''t really work. I''ve actually been thinking of getting a JC one, but I''ve been scared they wouldn''t fit. Monarch, I know that this is probably a really hard question to answer, but do you have any idea if the ones you ordered would be appropriate for a girl who''s 5''11"? (Yeah I''m tall.)

I''m a bikini girl when out with my husband. But if we do a family trip I need something that stays on better when my 9 year old climbs all over me. I''m hoping to find a decent "mom friendly" suit this year.

Hi Blenheim

. That is not a tough question for me at all! I''m 5''10"! The sizing chart on JC''s site says 70" (measuring from the top of shoulder, through the legs, and back up) is long torso. I think I measured 67-68" or something, but I can''t quite remember as it was last year. The suits I got are fine to wear for water sports, they just bug me because there''s some extra fabric in the middle. I also ordered a suit that is a halter and ties at the neck, so it''s kind of adjustable. It worked out the best for me.

LMAO

Hey I need those ....what colors do they come in?!!

Well, black is slimming. And white tends to get see-through when wet.
They do have the "seasonal" brown.
And clear for that "special" section of the beach!!! :)
LOL Libs!

I used to be a bikini girl, but after 3 kids, I am more a t-shirt and shorts girl.

I did find some nice seperates by some designer, can''t recall the name right now, but they were extremely flattering as the bottoms gave a little more coverage and you could mix and match the tops and because they were tank top like, it hid the waistline.
I can''t remember the name of the designer, but I got them at Macy''s.

come on girls!!! all these talk about bikinis but,no pictures??

That Hefty one has my name written all over it!!! I used to be a bikini girl, but now I''m just too big. Seriously, I''ve gained a TON of weight. How much weight do those Hefty bags hold? I might just have to go that route....

Do you mean the banded halter tops? Those have always been the BEST for me! If it wasn't for those tops I'd need to be on a nude beach. Seriously, the tiny triangle tops were not meant for girls with a chest. Whenever I try on those tiny tops I look like I belong on Baywatch--not a good thing.

But, I COMPLETELY agree with you about the full coverage bottoms. Those really can't flatter anyone. I'm all about the low tie hipsters too as I'm all leg and no torso.

researcher i actually meant those ones that basically look like the gal has a big mega bra on...hehehee..not the tube ones. though those don''t work for me either because they give me a uniboob!! hehee. i actually find that the halter tops where you can adjust the ties on front and back work best for me...i can''t wear a triangle either..wah!

I LOVE the ones with double ties! I have at least 5 of them (yes, I too "collect" bathing suits (how can I not living 5 minutes walking distance from the beach in sunny CA?)). Those really are the best!

Well, I am glad to have spotted this thread before going to bed tonight! I want to make an announcement...for the first time in my life and at 45 1/2 years old...I have worn a bikini in the Caribbean and I love it! After 9 kids, a tummy tuck and losing 22+ lbs or so, I have gone and bought not one, not two but 3 string bikinis, 3 regular halter bikinis and 3 tankinis. This is really a BIG deal to me.

I never had the guts or the figure growing up to don a two piece. Now, I feel so much more confidant and alive that I told myself I was just going to do it and I have. I have to admit, it was really weird and awkward at first, but I thought...what the hell?

After a little coaxing from my 21 year old daughter and visiting Newport News'' website and the VS website, I was ready to do it. I wore the suits in the Caribbean around total strangers who I knew I would never see again so I felt A-ok to practically bare it all.

I know...some of you are probably wondering what the big deal is, but for me, a girl brought up by two very staunch Protestant parents, this is HUGE. And my sons are just going to have to get used to it. I plan to wear the string bikinis only around my hubby in the hot tub and the other suits are more appropriate for just family. I do have 1 piecers that are also kid-safe and party guest appropriate.

But I had to share what I did with you all...silly, I know, but it is a MAJOR accomplishment for me...

I think that is FANTASTIC!!! Good for you

Having run around naked on the beach as a child (oh, how I dreaded my parents showing those pictures to my now hubby when we''d first gotten engaged) and sported g-string suits as a teenager, my dad (a protestant minister) is now THRILLED that I''ve opted for more conservative suits lately. But, I have to say that vacations will always be an excuse for the itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, little polka dot bikini!
