How are Diamond Engagement Rings at COSTCO?

I've heard good things & I want to start looking there. There are really about 10-12 locations I can gradually go to w/o driving too, too far. I'll drive to as many as I feel like going to.
How are the quality & prices?
Does anyone happen to know if each store location usually have the same rings at the same time & how often do they get new rings in?

Any other comments would be appreciated! (BTW, if anyone out there knows about Simon G. rings, please reply to my thread in the 'Jewelry Pieces' section.)

I love love love Costco and if there's only one store I could shop at for the rest of my life, it would be it.

However, we can help you find a much higher quality diamond engagement ring at a lower price! I would check out both Whiteflash and James Allen as starting points. If you let us know what you are looking for, folks here are happy to help!

My ring was purchased online in Canada and it is amazing! However, we weren't able to see any certificates prior to purchasing but their return policy is great so we did it anyway. No regrets. Price was significantly lower than comparable locally, but very close to online retailers like JA and BN.

I've heard good things about Costco jewelry as well. One thing to consider if you go this route is that Costco does not service any of their jewelry. So if you need to get a ring resized or prongs checked in the future, you'd have to go to a local jeweler to have this service performed. Shouldn't be a deal breaker but just throwing that out there.

I'm currently working with Whiteflash on a project and they've been excellent. In the super ideal world, you may also consider Brian Gavin Diamonds, Victor Canera, High Performance Diamonds as just a few other highly recommended vendors. Good luck! Whiteflash does offer Simon G designs as well...can't say for certain with the others. I'm sure other PSers will be able to chime in and help. You've come to the right place.

From what I've heard, once you resize the jewelry, you can no longer return it. Also, for high value items, the return may take some time as they need to verify it's the same stone, etc.

You can't have work of any kind done on it. That includes even tightening of stones or polishing. You definitely can't size it or get it reset into something different. As mentioned above, they don't do even the simplest of repair or maintenance type work. Basically, it's wise to think of it as a 'no refunds' type of store. This is decidedly different from their usual policies.

Everyone is different. But for me, I consider an engagement ring to be more serious than other jewelry pieces I own. Because of that, I would not buy it at Costco. The quality just isn't as high, and Costco doesn't offer important perks like getting your jewelry serviced, or having a trade-up policy (which is important because it gives you options down the road.)

But I would possibly buy "fun" jewelry at Costco (for example, I'm planning on looking at Costco's diamond hoop earrings in a few months.)

Thanks a lot so far guys, good to know! Any more comments? I'll keep returning back for while. I'm sure I'll need the ring resized because I don't think most stores have the size I need automatically in stock.

I would have finally looked at some Costco rings for the 1st time today & was there at opening time. Since it was a Monday, I figured it wouldn't be too crowded, but the line was all wrapped around. I guess I'll use another tactic & go the last 30-60 min before closing.

anon34985, well, if that's the case, I've looked at their online selection already so if they don't have better & more than that, I'll be disappointed because nothing at all jumped out at me.

RunningwithScissors, true, I feel the same, but I'll still try to look since I've never looked at their rings before, but I'll probably want something more upscale. They'd have to do have something quite special to catch my eye.

I do believe Costco's diamonds are VS2 clarity and "I " color. I have never seen a grading report but thats what they claim on their website. I agree with another poster for an engagement ring I would look at Bluenile or James Allen for a better quality diamond and light performance and probably cheaper.

Costco diamonds tend to be pretty but you can probably do a little better on price and quality if you look a little harder. Echo what others have said.
