How big is too big to bezel?

I love the look of the JM 1345! However, I'm torn on what size center stone to use. Do you think a 2 carat would look awkward? I'm waffling between 1.5 and 2 carat. My finger size is 5.5.

If you own this setting, do you find it comfortable? Sturdy? Have you ever gotten compliments on it?

My opinion? 1.5-2 would be AWESOME!!!!

Can you link the setting? I am not sure what JM 1345 is???

5 ct? Haha I think it would look beautiful! Just needs to be a very thin bezel. I love the sholdt one :)

Nice job Libby! I think a 2 carat would look great in that setting.

Is JM still making jewellery? If so, why don't you just ask him? It's his design so he's the best person to steer you in the right direction... I believe he stopped working with outside stones a long time ago so you'd have to have him source the stone anyway.

Honestly, in my opinion, it's never too big to bezel! And I'm not a "more is more" kind of lady. I tend to like things delicate but I think a bezel on a larger stone is stunning.

Mine is an ERD custom. 1.81 ct. Size 6 for perspective...

I think you're correct. I am planning to have a jeweler I've used before create a piece similar to JM's style. I don't want it copied, just inspired with some modifications. Sorry, I should have clarified that in my first post.

So lovely! The size actually looks quite proportionate to your hand. How do you like having a bezel? I worry dirt and gunk will get stuck between the bezel and the stone- does that happen? Do you think the bezel has affected sparkle factor at all?

I think a 1.5-2.0 ct stone bezeled would be amazing!

Ah, well, in that case I guess maybe at 6-7ct it might start to get a little unwieldy? There are a few larger coloured gems in that setting on here and they look fabulous so I wouldn't be worried about the size you're considering at all!
