anyone ever go to their dr to get something to change the day they have they period? Mine came early this month and now Iam due on my wedding day!!!!!

I haven''t taken BC in 20 yrs. Is there something? I can''t be the only bride that has asked their physician this question.I haven''t called for an appt yet. Anyone have any idea or will I be laughed out of the drs office..

A friend of mine was on the pill when this happened to her. Her wedding day fell withing her sugar pill days (red army) timeline. So to avoid her red army, she simply skipped the sugar pills (or 7 days off) and went straight into her next pack.

It worked for her, but I would suggest checking with your physician FIRST.

They say there''s no medical need for a *ahem* flow, but I would get the DR''s OK first KWIM?

I am on BC, and tend to *ahem* mess with things to get what I want, when I want. If BC is an option, I would suggest waiting one week before starting them so you are in the middle of the pack for your wedding. Skipping the sugar pills and going straight into the next pack has never worked for me. My body thinks I need the "red army" (LOL btw).

Good luck!

Yes, just skip the sugar pills and go straight to the next cycle of ''real'' pills. I''ve done this on and off for ages, when I am going on holiday, etc. They say even doing this permanently shouldn''t cause any ill effects, but I''ve only done it for a few months max. All you need is a pill prescription.

There is a way but I forget how. I''ve been off the pill for awhile. You doctor should be able to tell you what to do. And if he''s a good doctor, he won''t laugh at you (maybe chuckle

) because I am sure it''s a very common question.

I run two packs of pills together when I need to skip mine.

I do the exact same thing when it interferes with vacation or other plans (ie wedding!). My Doc says thats safe to do for up to 6 months... but I''ve just run two months together.

these ladies know their stuff

There are several ways to skip/postpone/prepone your period when you''re on the pill. There''s nothing much you can do when you''re not on the pill.

I''m thinking, if you''re going to be stressed closer to the wedding day, your period will probably be late. I hope it is!

I have heard this as well, taking the BC through the whole month to skip your period. However, if this is next month you are talking about, (and correct my ignorance in this matter because I have never used bc pills) dont you spot more on BC when you first start taking it, and it subsides as you continue? So if you havent taken it in 20 years, I would think this would occur for you no? Thus defeating the purpose of going on it to skip your period?

If that doesnt work (or as back up just in case), I highly recommend the Instead Cup (www.softcup.com). Its amazing. Bikini friendly, lasts 12 hours, and you can still have sex with it.

I''m not sure if you''re on BC or not, but I''m not and we''re taking our HM 2 weeks after the wedding, so I''m almsot screwed either way. lol. If you figure something out, PLEASE share with the rest of us.

not on the pill now
not worried about pregnancy
Just want to have uncomplicated sex!!!
not be bloated
not be emmotional
dang it
why oh why
ANyhow I did make an appt for tomorrow morning to see my Doc
I will let ya know!

thanks ladies
Very helpful :)

I don''t know how many of you are in the US on BC, but I take seasonique and I only get four periods a year. The pills run together for 12 weeks and then you have 1 week of sugar pills and then 12 weeks and 1 week, etc. It works very well for me, but I know it''s not for everyone.

I would definitely go to my doctor right away and see what I can do ASAP.

Good Luck!

You can definitely skip your period even if you go on birth control, even if you aren''t on it now. It may not prevent pregnancy as reliably depending on the timing, but there should be no problem skipping your period by continuing on birth control pills/ring/patch during the time you want to skip. According to reproductive specialists (physicians), the current recommendation is to have 1 period a year at the least, so skipping just one is pretty safe as far as anybody knows.

There can be some spotting, but if you have a good blend of estrogen and progesterone (there tends to be less spotting in combination pills than just progesterone) the spotting should be minimal or none!

Best of luck!

Hmmm....I just wanted to say that I personally wouldn''t recommend this! It took me 6-8 months to get used to being on the pill, I was a BIG FAT mess. Constantly hormonal and SO nauseated. I wouldn''t want to feel that way on my wedding day! Ofcourse, everyone reacts differently, but a good % of women take around 3 months to adjust to BC.

Laura...please let me know what you find out. I''m not on BC and I CANNOT be on bc due to a blood clotting condition and I have been trying to figure out when my . is going to come. I will be a mess if it happens on the week of my wedding.

I was juuuust going to reply with this same thing.

While you might not want your period during your wedding... do you want your emotions to be out of order? want to potentially gain some weight unexpectedly before the wedding? potentially have acne breakouts as your adjust to hormones?

Just consider the risks. I would suggest the menstrual cup as someone else did. It''s odd, but might be safer(ie no weight gain, no blemishes, no crazy mood swings).

What is the menstual cup?

Its so horrible because how do you plan your wedding OR your honeymoon around your . a year or more out when you don''t take BC and it can fluctuate a few days early/late throughout the year? Something I always wonder about myself.

Yup! My fiance has learned to deal with it. I track my cycles using NFP and we also use um protection (TMI) but more importantly I''m usually early but I had a few months where I was late. Last month I was at 24 days. Annoying.

I''ve also been loosing weight cause my thyroid is now overactive and the last time that happened I lost my . for a few years. My hormones are messed. Anyway...don''t really know if there is anything I can do about it. I just really don''t want to be bloated and um not going to the bathroom. IYKWIM.

I've personally never learned to deal with mine. haha! So if you don't mind me asking (probably a dumb question but anyway) what's NFP? I usually start somewhere between days 28-34 with 30 being the norm (but its not really the norm because it changes!)...pain in the @ss.

Natural family planning. Its the easy way to tell when I''m fertile. Just in case. It takes some time to learn your body that way.

Interesting. I''ve never heard of it. But I really don''t look into these things so that''s probably why...

I agree, it's risky to start birth control because you never know what side effects you might get. So it depends if you're willing to take that risk to skip your period. But I'm pretty sure you can successful skip your period that way.

And Natural Family Planning is great, if you are naturally regular. For those of us who aren't, it doesn't work quite as well unfortunately.
I've never heard of using a cup either. Is it something your doctor puts in?

Actually NFP works much better than the other methods if you are irregular because you track your temp and cervical m. The other methods I don''t find work as well. Just my experience and opinion though.

You could be right, I''ve never used it. We just finished reproduction in our med school classes, and they said NFP isn''t great for woman who are irregular in terms of contraception reliability. But it may be better if you''re trying to conceive? Dunno. Either way, it takes a lot of education and dedication,, so it''s great it works well for you

Yeah, you're both correct actually. Usually, for most women, the irregularity in the cycle is in the first half, so from day 1 of the menstrual cycle to the the ovulation day (which, normally, is 14 days). Once you ovulate, it is usually 14 days to your menstrual cycle - this part is not usually irregular. So, for instance, if you track your temp and you ovulate day 16 of your cycle, your period will most probably be around day 30; if you ovulate day 11, then period will be around day 25. So if you can track when your ovulation is, you will generally have a good idea on when to expect your period.

For those who asked what the menstral cup is that the other poster commented on, it is this Instead cup I mentioned earlier (see highlighted)

Instead of absorbing it catches. So it lasts much longer with no leaks. And because it sits directly under the cervix (think diaphram), you can still have sex with it since it is not sitting in the vaginal canal like a tampon does.

A little tricky to get in/out at first (might take a try or two), but once you get use to it, its a godsend.

ETA: To answe other questions I saw, no its not something your doctor puts it, its just sold at a drugstore next to tampons/pads and other feminine care. Its not a contraceptive! Its simply an alternative to tampons/pads.

I've used the instead cup too. Yes, you can have sex with it. He may feel it though depending. It takes a while getting used to, but it isn't that hard or different than using a tampon. I could feel it in, when I can't with a tampon, so I dont use it regularly, but it may work for this situation!

Thanks Kama. I guess what I was also trying to say is that NFP may not necessarily help you predict your period in a few months if you''re prone to irregularity.

Also, when I started on the Nuvaring, I had no problems the first month at all. I think the side effects profile is similar to the oral pill though, so perhaps I''m just lucky. But I love managing my monthly cycles with it.
