Hey everyone! Thanks in advance for anyone that will help me out here. I bought a 2.01 carat H princess VS2, 1:1 L:W, signature ideal cut diamond from blue nile with excellent polish/symmetry and no fluorescence. I attached the GIA report. With the wire transfer discount, I paid an even $16,000. Could I do better for that money? I still will need to have it set. Thanks!!!

Can''t really tell if it is a real performer from the report for fancy cuts. Need ASET image. But the depth is lower than what most ideal cut princess have.

I''m not sure I can get the ASET image. I do have this from Blue Nile. Is the depth issue a really big problem? Please let me know. From top down, the diamond is beautiful though. Thanks!!!

If you like it. :) I can''t see it in real life so I can''t really make a judgment.

Usually it is preferred to have the table less than the depth but the main thing is if you love it! If you are unsure, if there is a Jareds near you, go and check out their AGS0 cut grade Princess, that way you will be viewing diamonds of known cut quality for the most part and you can see how this one compares.

Pricewise it is very good deal if it is on par with an ideal cut princess. Maybe you would want to sent it to an independent appraiser with cut analyzing tools?

Ditto!

Should I return the diamond: (a possibility)

I am also considering these 2 stones:

Carat : 2.15
Clarity : VS2
Color : H
GIA SPECIFICATIONS
Measurements: 7.11 x 7.08 x 5.05
Depth: 71.3
Table: 69%
Girdle: medium
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: N
Price: $600 more than original

Item Number : 318181D
Carat : 2.05
Clarity : VS2
Color : G
GIA SPECIFICATIONS
Measurements: 7.14 x 7.09 x 4.91
Depth: 69.3
Table: 70%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: N
Price: $300 less than original.

If these are from BN then again it is so hard to tell without images regrettably as there is so much info we are missing, the first with the table slightly less than the depth might be better but no way to tell without more info. I take it you aren't really happy with the diamond?

What you could do is to order an ASET scope and check the diamond out yourself

Chart you can use to interpret the images

Yeah, I''m not thrilled. It looks great top down, but I think it''s just a bit too shallow. I don''t understand why BN listed it as a Signature Ideal Cut. The crown height, I also think could be a little taller. I''m going to send it back. Need to find a new diamond. Plan on proposing in May or June so not the end of the world...

I thought so! Not to worry, send it back and maybe this time look at some diamonds from vendors who stock AGS0 cut grade or hand selected GIA Princess with all the info and images you need in order to make an informed choice. We can also make suggestions when you are ready if you wish.

Might I suggest a few, that have more info on them? Please feel free to ignore!

This is from WF's Expert Selection, but it looks really nice, if eyeclean. And it would get a 2% PS discount.

There's also this one, bankwire is discount. The video does not have this diamond it it I don't believe, I think it's a mistake.

And this one, not sure what their discount is, maybe 3%? You can ask, and of course eyecleanliness should be checked too.

Thanks Ellen. I think all of those diamonds look incredible. Unfortunately, when my GF gave me the "specs" she said don''t go lower than H and VS2. I know. I know. An eye-clean SI1 is probably no different than VS2 and a good I is probably the same as an H.... That being said, I learned fast... She makes the rules.

Here''s a question: If a 2.15 H looks a little bigger than a 2.00 G and the diamonds are the same quality, what do ya''ll prefer?

Same quality as in cut performance wise? I would go bigger if about the same price.

Assuming the cut was excellent on each then I would go for the larger H colour.

all else being equal - i''d go for the G, even tho slightly smaller. i''m very color sensitive tho, and not all are. i have a background in design and decorating, so color really is my thing.

there *is* a difference in color/tone, and some people *can* see it - so best check with the lady in question if she feels she can see those subtle differences.

i agree with all the comments re cut, however. i go; 1) budget 2) cut 3) color 4) size 5) clarity. i think it helps in major purchases like these to have a list of priorities - it really does help guide you through the process.

good luck!

ditto whitby-- those were my priority as well.

You''re welcome! And if she said no lower than H VS2, these will not do!

As to your question, if the cut is equally great on both, I''d go for the bigger stone. They really do "shrink" a tad after looking at them for a bit.

Here's some info on the 2.15 H VS2. See this discussion at https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/rate-this-vs2-stone-with-is-and-aset-photos.110887/. I got the vendor to provide ASET & IS photos as well as the GIA cert. The only issue I'm seeing is a central cloud. What do ya'll think? THANKS A MILLION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At VS2, the inclusions should not be any problem. That's tiny!

As for the ASET, I wish it had more red in it, but, it would most likely look better than the vast majority of stones out there.
