how did you meet your SO?

Myspace.

He was living with an ex of almost three years.

Uh. Yeah.

That was about 4.30 years ago. We've been together for about 4.20 years. But we were just friends! And we didn't meet until after they were broken up! And we didn't intend to become what we did!

ETA: his ex is now a lesbian who is dating a woman twice as old as her.

I swear we are not as fraught with scandal as it sounds!

We met at pub trivia. He attended randomly (the pub was associated with university I attended for law school, which he was not affiliated with) and met some friends of mine. I came to trivia one night and we ended up on a team together. My friends thought we were cute and flirting, so told him to drive me home. I thought - but he could be a serial killer!

Anyway, I didn't ask him in (which he thought I would) and he didn't ask for my phone number (which I thought he would). But he facebook friended me (lame) and we messaged but nothing happened. Eventually our friends threw a small party for the sole purpose of hooking us up (2.5 years ago today) and the rest is history.

We met at a wedding of a mutual friend. I'm from Texas but go to school in Oklahoma. He is from the same town (rival high school) and is now based in Oklahoma. He got invited with his parents, but I got an "and guest." I went back and forth several times on who to take, and finally decided on a friend from home, thinking he might know some people at the wedding. Well, it turns out there weren't very many people our age at this wedding, but luckily my "date" was fairly good friends with L. The three of us hung out together until the wedding was over and then went to a bar afterward. From there he asked me if I'd like to caravan back to OK together in the morning and then stop for dinner. I said yes, and the rest is history.

We met at the bar next door to work.

I has having a beer with my roommate and my boss.
My roommate noticed my FI and told me he worked at our company. And I kind of knew the guy he was with.
I was like WOAH... HE IS CUTE, and said to my roommate WHATCH THIS!

I went over and said hi...then ended up hanging out with them for the rest of the night.
FI kissed me in the parking lot that night :naughty: then we went out for our first date a week later. I had to call HIM by the way!!!!

We were pretty instant and fell in love pretty quickly.

I started my first (and only so far) job out of college the same day as this other girl, P. She was starting one level up from me under the same boss (I was the new assistant for the first group). We had a rough start but ended up becoming really good friends. She "took me under her wing" so to speak and always wanted to play the matchmaker. I had horrible luck with guys.

So, just a little under a year after she started, she left the company and went to another one close by here on LI. I told her, joking around, go over there and find me a good guy! And she did! J worked the in same group as her and when P started, said to her, joking, got any cute friends? He was single and she said sure, I have a few. Well, they started talking and she was like, you'd be perfect for C, you like all the same stuff. But, she said here's her name, find her on facebook and do it yourself. Of course I had to approve the fact that she was going to give my name out. He friended me, then I waited for him to actually message me, there was no way I was going to appear to eager! We talked on the phone, met for dinner and the rest is history. That first night we hung out until like 2 am. Then 2 days later it was Halloween, he came out and went to a party at my brother's new house and met my parents before hand. (His costume was a mobster and he had given himself gray hair for it, so he looked like 40! and that's how he met my parents the first time.) Then we went and met his friends at a bar. All this meeting in like 3 days. We count our anniversary as our first date.

And I already told P, since she was such a great friend and found me my man, she can be my maid of honor.

A litte side note: after P left my company, I ended up getting promoted to her job! So I got a great guy and a good job. Now P, J and I do the same exact thing, except they work on human vitamins and I do animal vitamins (we're in marketing).

She and my ex-H worked together. My ex-H got a new job that we moved cross-country for. I met my SO after we had moved. She was at all the company get togethers (smalllll company, so it wasn't hard to spot her). We weren't friends and it seemed like she avoided me actually (probably cuz my ex-H was such a jerk to her). It wasn't until I was in this city for 1.5 years before she invited me to a concert (along with other girls) and I got to actually know her. The other girls ended up flaking, so it was just her and I and we chatted for hours. Our relationship started veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slowly-- like we'd maybe see one another once a month at parties and we still didn't talk much. It wasn't until my marriage was over that I started reaching out to her to really befriend her and we took things from there.

SO and I met at a bar the very start of my last semester in college. I was single and certainly not thinking to start anything my last 3 months on campus.

As my best friend's bf tells it, I was chatting with him (the best friends bf), and apparently, I stopped midsentence and my eyes just followed this guy across the bar.

Later bf went up to him to bring him over to meet me. He was completely wasted and I was sober. He seemed nice enough, but soooo drunk. He left that night and for some reason, I still have NO IDEA why, I facebooked him (partly to make sure he had made it home ok).

For a few weeks we would message on facebook but I never saw him again. I would say "oh I will be here this night with these people, or there that night with those other people" and he would say he would try to make it but never show up.

Finally, one night I thought "ok, this is my last attempt." So I invited him to a party I was going to that night and said something like "we are basically pen pals, what the heck are we doing?" He showed up for that party (I found out later that he had cancelled his already scheduled plans to be there, good thing since unbeknownst to him I was gonna give up after that night) and we were literally never apart again.

We are getting married in October and I could not be happier! side note: the drunk thing the night we met was WAY out of character!

SO and I both work in law enforcement, but for different agencies. We met while out on a search/arrest warrant operation. :Up_to_something:

The only reason I met him is because he and one of the guys I work with are part of the same task force. I'm not on this particular task force, but my coworker had asked my partner and I to come out on the warrant with him because they needed some extra hands. Romantic, right?

I was single for awhile and strongly debated the issue of whether or not I ever wanted to seriously date someone else in this field, and I'm so glad I let it happen. We've only been dating "officially" for about 6 weeks (with a getting-to-know-you dating period of 2 weeks prior to that), but I'm happier now than I've ever been in any other relationship. Even when I was previously engaged to someone else, I can't remember ever feeling this way.

Online. Best story ever, right?

I will say this: I had never explored online dating before. I had absolutely no faith in it and thought it was kind of weird. But I was living alone in a new town and having a hard time making friends. I wasn't looking for the love of my life, I just wanted to get the heck out of my apartment and talk to some new people. I went to a free site where I could look at a limited number of profiles before I decided if I wanted to join. I looked at two other profiles...definitely NOT people I wanted to meet. Then I saw his. He lived in my town, had dorky interests and bright red hair. I love red hair. It wasn't love at first sight or any BS like that, but he did seem like a reasonable person, and I figured if there were people like that on the website, that it wouldn't hurt to join. I joined and sent him a message. I remember his profile said "dream job: robot pirate," and my first message to him was "but what about the rust?" Yes, we are both dorks. I did talk to a few other guys on the website, but he was the first and last person I actually went on a date with. It was a good date; what can I say?

Hmm am I really answering this question?

I really hope it's ok that I keep posting here...just tell me to go away if not, but I love this board!!

So my FI and I met almost exactly 3 years ago - Aug 12, 2007. I have a very dysfunctional family to say the least, and we live about 600 miles apart, so my parents and I play an online game together (a very popular one but I won't mention names...).

Anyhow, it was my dad's birthday, and we were doing something together in the game that needed more people - I asked in chat of a random area for help at like 11:00 at night and he responded. So essentially he met my parents on our first meeting. We did things together in game for a while, eventually sharing email then phone, then skype after about 6 months. He was very different from other people that I'd met in the game (which 99.99999% of the guys I'd met were really creepy/pushy/rude/etc. and were ignored by me). After a year of knowing each other and knowing that we wanted to meet in person, he flew out here to spend the weekend with me. We'd shared a LOT of our lives together, but obviously there were so many unknown things until we met in person. Let's just say that we knew after that trip that it wasn't just a coincidence that we met. 8) It was the best weekend of my entire life, and the next year was the longest year of my life!

In August of 2009, I flew out to New York to help him drive to California to live here. He rented a room for a couple of months from someone, just in case things didn't go quite as well as we expected them to, but never actually stayed there a single night. It's been almost a year of him living here, and I can't imagine going back to not sharing every day of my life with him. We have things that come up (as any normal, healthy relationship does) but we work through them vs. sweeping them under the rug like my past relationships. He's my best friend and teammate in life.

I love these stories, keep 'em coming!

Hmmm might there be quests, taurens, and night elves in this game? ;)
I had to take a break from it because it was so addicting

Very cute story!

Perhaps... Hey it's a good way to test your ability to work together as a team!

We met on the dating site Lavalife, which back then was much less icky.

I had just finished a rather long and drawn out break up with my live in EX, and my friends convinced me to post an add. DH was the first man to express interest in me! Two weeks later we went on a date. I think it might be among the shortest successful internet dating experiences in history!

Tammy77, I love your story : )

What a great post! So many great stories.
I met my SO at my former work, where we were a customer of his company. It was a pretty small office, so I couldn't miss him when he'd stop by. Everytime he came in I would blush and look away because I had an instant crush! It took me awhile to get over my shyness (and I wasn't one to be shy around guys, just him), but thanks to the help of my close friend/coworker we devised a plan to bring me into the conversation the next time he came in and it worked, despite me probably being bright red and maybe even shaking out of nervousness! ;) We chatted for awhile that time and then he'd stop by my desk to say hi everytime he came by after that. Eventually we started emailing and I slipped in my cell # and mentioned to let me know if he ever wanted to hang out. He called the next day and we met up that night and started spending time together from then on out. 2 and a half years later, we now live together and I'm an LIW!
