well, i actually used "icekid" as a username before i became obsessed w/ diamonds! so it''s not ice as in diamonds, but as in that cold slippery stuff. i was/am a figure skater (not as much anymore in my old age- 24!
3.gif
) and an all around rink rat. basically i come from a family of skaters; brothers are serious hockey players and my sis was a figure skater also. dad coaches, and mom also skates. we live in ice rinks!

and my avitar is my gorgeous, very much missed chocolate lab, mario (obviously named after hockey great mario lemieux, in my hockey-crazed family!) he lives far away with my parents and now i get to see his cute avitar face everyday!

My avitar is a pic I took in my garden last summer. We had a lot of butterflies. I used to be an interior lanscaper and my favorite plant is a Ming Aralia. Minga for ming and green because well it is green!!!

Oh I love hearing about how everyone choose...and yes Blue I think it is fantastic that something you did when you are young had such a lasting impact! Gives us school people some hope.

Matatora is my screen name on AOLIM and I choose it in 7th grade and to be blunt I just dont like change. It is from Hawaiin mythology their god of the underworld sortof. Matatora was a man who loved his wife so much that he couldnt live without her so he went to the underworld in ordere to save her. Struck me as very loyal.

My aviatar is Ava my Boston Terrier smilling at me becuase she had killed the evil Sqeuaky! Isnt she so cute? (In that I am so ugly that I am perfect way.)

great topic matatora!!! very fun to read about everyone....

for me....

name: lost on 5th is/was simply that i was lost about diamonds when i found this site. until here, most of my influance had been the collection of jewelrs on 5th ave and the diamond district on 47th. the name seemed fitting.

avitar: it took me a little time to find the right image. i wanted something that would recall the dark chasms of the streets of new york and capture the emotion of it. i also wanted something to relate to the topics here. the image is building and sculpture at the same time. it is a block of rough stone... cut and polished and honed to breath life into an inanimate object.

what it is: a detail from the entrance of riverside cathedral.....

OMG!!

Sorry MinaGreen, I hope you are not offended, but I always thought "wow, that is a pretty cool fish. And it''s a butterflie, how embarassing!
emembarrassed.gif
I just now see that it does in NO WAY resemble a fish. LOL

boy o boy, someone needs to get her eyes
emotion-15.gif
checked out!

while i'm at it, i'll explain my avitar...

That is my cute furbal. He looks fat, because the pic is all.. well, who am I kidding, he is a little "big boned"

As for my username, dunno really, Rock -as in diamonds- chick -because I am one-

Fun thread Matatora, I just love your avitar, she is smiling

With shared birthdays and bling, Pricescope is becoming quite a tribe !
2.gif
I wish one of your "get together" events was nearer
39.gif

My Pricescope name gets a couple of letters from each of my real ones. Blue is my favorite color and after a thread on the colored forum about "cornflower blue", the previous picture of a sapphire got replaced with the real thing.

how fun!!

my hubby's nickname is Salvo so that make's me Mrs. Salvo. The pic in my avatar is my 1st baby - Zoe our 5 year old lab mix.

mrssalvo,
I always wondered about your name, that''s cool. Zoe is just adorable, I grew up with labs. They are great dogs!!!

My screen name is actually my daughters name Mariah Lyn. I started using it as my Ebay user name years ago because I was buying her clothes. I had to add an extra R because the other was taken.

My avator also changes but it''s an u/s picture of the little guy in my tummy sucking his thumb. He should be coming out to meet me in about 9 weeks!!

MinaGreen, I thought it was a fish too! Sorry

BlueRoses is the nickname/symbol for Laura Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie (based on playwright Tennessee Williams'' actual sister Rose Williams). Laura was my graduate thesis role for my MFA. She''s this wonderful embodiment of frailty and strength, hope and despair. Beautiful character, beautiful play!

My avatar is the genius creation of some fellow LIW. A thread about GingerBCookie''s dream ring turned into a discussion about the movie Dirty Dancing. I revealed the embarassing tidbit that I had done a dance in an 8th grade talent show to that "sylvia and mickey" number, Erin posted the shot from that scene of jennifer grey and patrick swayze dancing, and then lovey worked some computer magic and changed "baby" into a blue poodle!! (Blue for blueroses, and my old avatar was a poodle dyed pink...I''m a lifelong poodle person.) It sounds very bizarre and tangential, but it was totally hilarious and I LOVE IT!

Ooooh, Mariahlyn, congrats!! How exciting!!

What a neat thread!!!

My PS name is fairly simple too... First of all, I love sailing - on the water that is! But I am also a very curious person and love learning new things...so when the Internet started becoming popular, I started playing there...hence the web part.

I switched to this particular avatar because it was a fun look at what I''m like at work when I''m working on the big production servers that keep my company running....

JC - my initials. JD - then-bf''s initials (I joined PS for the Anxious thread! The diamond obsession is just a side effect.)

Avatar is my gorgeous ering!

I''ll have to change my screen name in 40 days when I become Mrs. D!!!

Fountainfairfax has been my screen name since the begining of my internet life, I''m so used to it that I still carry the whole waste-of-money aol "bring your own access" service regardless of how I get my internet cause I just can''t give it up!

I''ve had a lot of people ask me if I lived anywhere near the corner of fountain & fairfax in Los Angeles, but I picked it because it''s the title of my favorite song by the now-defunct band The Afghan Whigs. The song itself is about lost love, cheating, anger, abuse...when I was going through my divorce I related to the ugliness of it all, now its just something from the past and doesn''t apply in any way to my current life, just my loyalty to the Whigs!

as for my avitar, I''m not very computer-savy and figured downloading an avitar of my own would never work. I used to rent a house that was on the site of an old farm- every year I had a ladybug explosion, they would be everywhere. somehow, a few must have got in my luggage & when I was staying at my parents house in PA a few hitch-hiked and the next thing we knew, crazy ladybugs at the vacation house! so I thought it was appropriate
1.gif

That is so funny that you both thought the butterfly was a fish!! I can see how at a glance you could mistake it!!

Well, Sevens (if she hasn''t got faaaar better things to be doing!), may well be able to explain the link between my avatar and username?

I like this thread!

I tried to pick a username that was very unique, so that I wouldn''t collide with someone who was already using my username. I wanted it to start with "Z", to be distinctive. It''s a unique spelling (because I actually did collide with another user elsewhere) of a russian greeting.

My avatar is me practising my (tennis) serve in the squash court of my condo. I''m trying to improve my form (wish I could keep my tossing arm straight!) Converted a small movie from my digital camera to GIF format. Thought it would be cool to have an animated avitar.

Z.

Fun topic! I love cats, but I didn''t want the same old "catlover" for a user name. So I went to a translation site and Amant de Chat is French for cat lover. I liked the sound of it and so that''s what I decided to use!
1.gif

My avatar is my silly kitty, Jasmine with one of her favorite toys. She is using it as a pillow. Other times I have used various cat pictures I have found on the net.

My username combines the football team''s fight song from my two alma maters: U Michigan (Go Blue!) and U Georgia (Gooooooo Dawgs!). Tinkerbell has been my favorite character since I was a kid.
oh no... U of M...

i''m a buckeye... :-)

what happens when U of M plays georgia?

LOL, this is fun! I got my picture from the movie "Office Space", I always answer my phone "Yeah HI"....heeeheee..
My name is from Strawderman Camp- a private Horse camp I went to for about 12 years! LOVED IT :)

It is funny hearing everyones stories, I always think about what the names and pictures represent! :)

Author: JessesGrl
I have an unusual first name and always was jealous when people had songs w/there name in it ( Rhiannon, Melissa, Mandy...ect.) Even ''Brown Eyed Girl'' didn''t fit because I have green eyes!
3.gif
anyway...My fiance''s name is Jesse and his guy friends would always sing the cheesy 80''s song ''Jesse''s Girl'' as a joke...I finally got my song...even if it is corny and from the ''80''s''...hahah, hence my name!

You know that is funny you post about that my parents named me after Fleetwood Mac, they did the spelling different though- my spelling is Reannan. ( My middle name is Renee- and no one can ever seem to pronounce my name so I went with the easy middle one. ALthough, I really really wish that I would have stuck with Reannan. I miss it....

Oh no, Bopitaddict... You''re an OSU grad? Eek!

Hey, gotta say as much as the rivalry is there...I still root against Notre Dame twice as OSU! LOL

Michigan never plays Georgia.
9.gif
If so, I''d root for Michigan. My first loyalty. Besides, going to a UGA football game was just plain weird! The sororities dress up in heels and pearls and don''t even watch the game! I was used to bundling up in wool hats and blankets...whatever keeps you warm! It was a really different experience!

movie zombie: me, a person who can see 56 movies in 10 days and becomes ''zombied'' in the process. the nickname came out of a conversation back in the mid-90''s with friends at a film festival.

yesterday my husband and i saw 4 movies [at the theatre] which isn''t even a stretch for us [we met opening night at a film festival in 1999]. september we''ll be in toronto for the international film festival [i highly recommend this festival! number two only to cannes] and i will once again morph into ''movie zombie''.

maximum movies seen in one day: 7 [without the assistance of illicit drugs, i might add].

peace, movie zombie

Amongst my obsessive research, my husband referred to me as being "rockupied". My avatar is the result of said research.

My avatar changes from time to time, but will always be Red Sox related, as I am a devoted, emotional fan (but not one of those beer-crazed yahoos you''re likely to find at Fenway, I should add).

My screen name is a derivative of my nickname in college, Lurch. Given to me by a very close (and somewhat vertically challenged) guy friend. I''m 5''11", he''s 5''7" on a good day. I wonder if he''ll read this...he''s currently shopping for an e-ring!

haha... too funny. :-P

i think our rivalry (OSU and UM) is one of those where you can still have a tremendous amount of respect for the other team... i actually root for UM every other day of the year. (don''t let any other buckeye grads hear this, otherwise i''d be lynched...) :-D

to topic: avatar and name are based on the game: "BOPIT"... it''s addicting.

Erin is my real first name and I''ve never kept a nickname longer than 24 hrs so why start now

My mother always thought I looked like Dorothy as a child and looking at some pics I''d agree
I''ll never forget, after watching that movie with my Mom, a story she told me about the second time she watched that movie. She watched it in her living room with her siblings and absolutely fell in love start to finish. Then, she watched it again at her friend''s house and was completely mesmerized by the sight of Dorothy opening up her front door to reveal the colorful world of Oz. Her first color television experience. It was then that I first started understanding that things (in general, technology I guess) haven''t always been this way, and that my mother used to be young and I started to see her as a real person instead of just Mommy. When I think of this movie I think of her.

flopkins is the name of one of my teddy bears (not a bunny!)... FI named it. We won the bear at Circus Circus Midway at the "flip the chicken into the bucket" game. THe bear is very floppy (he can''t sit up straight!) so we shortened floppy + chicken to flopkins.

Avatar is a cropped pic of a teddy I found on the internet, I just thought it was really cute and sorta related to my teddy theme I guess! The caption in french that was cropped said "Je pense a toi souvent", which means, "I think of you often"

Boy, you would think from this that I was 10 or something! Oh well. I am young at heart.

Jellybean is my daughter''s nickname and my avatar is the IS image of my new diamond.
