How difficult would this be?

I picked out my engagement ring but didn't do my research and the morganite stone looks terrible. From the start it hasn't looked like the pictures. I'm pretty sure pictures were heavily edited. I found a beautiful stone to replace the morganite but it's 9x7 and some change instead of 8x6. With this setting is it possible to place bigger stone20200131_155255.jpg

Before worrying about a replacement stone, I‘d be more worried about your setting even being able to securely & safely hold the stone currently set in it. It does not look like it’s seated correctly in the prongs as-is, almost like the current stone is too big, as the prong on the right looks like the stone is about to slip out from it; so I’m not sure a bigger stone will work without some potentially-major rework on the basket & prongs. Who made the setting for you, if you don’t mind sharing? Is the ring still under warranty?

Is the current and proposed morganite round or oval? The picture looks more round, but it may be the angle.

ETA: here’s a picture sort of showing what I’m talking about by ‘seated’; see how the stone sits in grooves in the prongs?

The seller was jeenjewels when they were on etsy big surprise they're not on etsy or amazon anymore. The stone isn't going anywhere you might just be seeing how bad the actual morganite is the cut and whatnot . It's oval and prong is like the photo you attached. I plan to go to local jeweler on Tuesday and ask what options are.

This same ‘jeenjewels’? http://www.jeenjewels.com/ If you’re still in the warranty period, just know that anyone else who ‘works’ on the setting will likely void any warranty that you do have remaining. Just something to be aware of; good luck!

Same jeenjewels but through their closed down etsy. I got engaged May 2018 ring was purchased by fiancee December 2017. I rather not deal with them at all check out their BBB profile. Picture from day we got engaged it looked a little better then

When was the last time it was cleaned? Can you soak it in some warm water with dawn dish soap for a bit, then give it a gentle scrub with a baby toothbrush?

PSers are pretty diligent about clean jewelry; I clean my ER at least once/day and sometimes a couple times/day if I get fidgety with my hands, face, hair, etc.

I would definitely try cleaning the ring.

You could try to contact the seller through their website and see if they would let you return it, but I would guess they may be reluctant given you've had the ring for 2 years.

Would you want to buy a new ring? If so, we can help find one that you will love, with an excellent cut and setting, at the best price!

I clean it with that very method pretty often. It will sparkle up a bit. There's barely any color to the stone. I have multiple topaz rings and they're looking great at least.

I love the setting I picked it out for it's details. I'm just not happy with the morganite. Going to see what the jeweler says. If there's something they can change with prongs to fit a different stone

I would suggest starting a ‘morganite’ thread in the Colored Stone section. I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that morgies tend to fade overtime. Also, they’re not a very durable stone for everyday wear, so it could be that it’s just seen too much ’abuse’ from normal wear (not that you’re doing anything wrong per se). But the folks in the CS forum will be able to help you understand how morganite “wears” and may have suggestions for your setting and it fitting a new stone. This section (Rocky Talky) is primarily for diamonds, so those who may best be able to help you may not see this thread. Good luck! :wavey:

I feel so sad for you

I think they are beautiful and i havn't seen many people around PS with one

but i thought they were more a night time gem. I have read conflicting things about them fading

I always wanted morganite for the color lol sadly I don't have much of the color. I found a beautiful tourmaline hoping jeweler gives me the okay with it fitting in setting with some work done to it. I have a necklace that's an open heart to hold a ring on it. I'm going to be much more protective

Please keep us posted and come back and show us!!

Looking forward to seeing these when you get them done

For an engagement ring, I would be fairly skeptical of tourmaline as well. I just don't think either of these stones are durable enough for everyday wear. I would try to find a light pink sapphire in the right size. I know on reddit there are some gem cutters who will custom cut morganite-colored lab-grown sapphires for fairly inexpensive prices.

I don't actually know why morganite goes so cloudy like that but it very often does.

This was post reminded me of one I saw on wedding bee recently. This lady was able to make hers look nice again with Dawn dish soap:

It will make is sparkle also works well with topaz. I think I'm one of the believers that morganite fades. The color saturation isn't there most of the time it can be sparkling but it's hard to be a paler peach/pink then it is.

Tourmaline is pretty much the same hardness but less prone to the cloudiness issue. I have the attached necklace in rose gold I wear it almost daily but always forgot to put current ring on it when I was doing stuff. Always take rings off at night they like to get stuck in my curls. I leave my wedding band on but it's only a rose gold chevron of roses no stonesScreenshot_20200202-101244_Etsy.jpg
