In terms of optical performance?

I can''t seem to download Vimeo. It must be blocked by the Chinese authority (along with a bunh of other things

).

I''d be interested in hearing from anyone who''s bought one of these; or from anyone else who''s seen AV rounds in person.

The posts on PS so far talk about broad flashes of light as supposed to pinpoint flashes. Am not really quite sure what means. Would they be suitable for earrings?

AV rounds look completely different from modern RBs. AV Rounds minimic the look of the OEC. I have seen them in person and to me they are beautiful but you really need to decide if the look is for you.

Thank you, CharmyPoo. I don''t know what "the looks" are, so that''s why I''m having problems deciding. Could I please ask you: Do AV''s sparkle on ears, like the way ideal cut RB''s do (like you can see them from across the room)? Or is it more of a subdue look, ie. an EC, whereby you''d have to come a bit closer to notice?

I would think it is the type of thing you will notice from accross the room from what I have seen in the videos. There are lots of facets and they reflect broad flashed, sure, but nothing like an EC.

Thanks, Dreamer. Good to know they are very sparkly. I just wish I could see the darn video myself!

Oh I just thought of something: I should watch Erica Grace videos!

Which particular types of stones do these most resemble? The original OEC or Old Mine or Transitional Cut?

I would say they are most like the OEC.

I took some screenshots of the videos for you so you can have a look BUT they aren't really representative since it is only a snapshot in time.

See the big broad flashes over the smaller ones of the H&A.

Last one.

Wow Charmypoo - you did a great job in capturing stills from those videos!

It''s not blocked by china to my knowledge - I have american vpn and I cannot access it either - it says it is protected or something, I think you need a password I''m not sure. I sent Jon a note but haven''t heard back.

I''m interested in those myself but it seems and i could be wrong, that the stones right now are a little deep or something - i remember seeing them in the past that had 8 clear chunky glorious arrows and these aren''t quite as sharp - I would love to buy one!!!!!!!

I want one for a pendant - I''ve been planning a pendant in my mind for quite some time and I''d really like a .9 AV round in it :)

I honestly don't think vimeo is blocked in China. I was able to see the videos when I was in China over Christmas but I can't remember if I was on my North American VPN or not.

Try this - http://www.vimeo.com/8061653

great shots charmy:-)

Hi Sara,

I did answer ya over on FB. The first prototypes did have an 8 arrows formation under an H&A viewer but in practical observation it caused too much obstruction/darkness so I had to alter their proportions which resulted in a visibly brighter diamond. AV OEC's are in fact cut deeper and on purpose because they are cut to purposely have tall crowns and no culets. If I put on a large culet I could very easily trim the total depth % down to between 61.x-62.x% but when soliciting opinions from consumers the overwhelming majority voted no culet so I've stuck with that. I can easily add a culet though if I wanted. As OEC's weren't necessarily cut for spread and typically had tall crowns my ultimate goal with these was attaining the highest possible optics out of the vintage OEC facet design. Flat crowns and large table facets would not lend itself towards that goal but I am extremely pleased with the end result as are many who have seen and enjoy them. I hope you get to one day see one too.

Kind regards,

Woow!! Charmy, those broad flashes are very very yummy indeed!!

Thank you so much for taking the time and making the effort. The pics are soooo amazing! I'm totally enamoured.

Thanks for telling me that AV Rounds are more like OEC's. It's good to know.

Actually, I wrote on my other thread in HO that I used to have an antique pair of earrrings. Now I'm not so sure that they're antique (?). I just remember a jeweller looking at them and told me that the "cut was very old". Hmm...I'm so intrigued now and would be very intereseted to find out what cut they really are.

Ok, I''m so technically challenged. I asked DH and he said that vpn means "virtual private network"! Does that mean you paid for that?

I keep trying but still no lluck!

Perhaps it means that we''d have to purchase some kind of vpn (?). Let me ask around with my Chinese friends and see what they say.

The funny thing is I can watch the videos and Wink and EricaGrace websites but not Jon''s (hint hint, Jon

That's great to know that your AV rounds had great optical performance!

I have to say though I'm a sucker for the large culet.

May I ask you this, from a total novice's point of view (ie. limited knowledge), would optimal optical performance still be achieveable with a large culet, whilst keeping the high crowns? Or would that throw off the depth, hence somewhat adversely affecting the brightness?

Ok, so I checked with some friends last night. They say that FB, YouTube, Vimeo and Twitter are blocked by the Chinese authority. There are ways round it, for example, by subscribing to a vpn, like Sara has. However, according to my friends, it''s hit and miss really. Even when you have vpn, sometimes you still can''t log onto these sites.

I must say I don''t really miss FB and have never signed onto Twitter, so it''s no problemo. However, I don''t like that I can''t watch GOG diamond videos!

Charmy What a nice thing to do with those snap shots! They do capture many of the differences in the vids I think.
