I read we are supposed to trim them straight across to prevent ingrown nails.
I've never done that.
I've always clipped them curved to follow the shape of the part that's connected to the skin.
I've never got ingrown nails.

For me clipping them straight across, which I tried recently, feels annoying.
The outer corners of the left and right edge catch on sox and tend to break.

+1 Curved. I feel like nails are naturally curved, so I don't mess with nature :wink2:
Same for fingernails.

Straight, my hubby had a couple of really nasty ingrown toe nails that had to be cut out and his dermatologist said always cut straight across to avoid ingrown toe nails.

Ditto. I have very curved nail beds, so I follow that shape. I have seen people with less curved nail beds so it looks more natural when they trim their nails straight

Huh. Maybe it's the way my feet are shaped or the sports I indulge in, but I can tell you that a curved toenail is a very, very bad idea. I learned the virtue of straight nails the hard way a long time ago.

I used to cut with the curve until I dealt with several ingrown toenails. The last time I had to have my toes numbed and the nails cut out. After that, I cut straight, regardless of appearance. If the corner is catching on my socks, I will trim the corners ever so slightly, but never enough to get close to the nail bed.

Straight across, but I use a file to smooth the corners to avoid irritation. When I was in 4th or 5th grade, I developed ingrown nails on both my big toes from wearing pointe shoes for ballet. I had to get that awful surgery where they cut out part of the nail and I didn't take ballet lessons anymore, just jazz and tap as those shoes are a bit more forgiving!

I don't think it would matter if I cut mine curved now, since the perpetrator part of those nails is gone, but all my nails, fingers included, grow out straight across and not curved. I don't mind their natural shape and don't try to change it.

straight across, maybe take the very edge/corner tip off. I have ingrown nails on both big toes, even after having them cut out years ago, when they grew back, they grew back ingrown. The nails also curve up over the bed itself, so they don't sit directly on the bed the way they're supposed to, so this also makes for a ridiculous problem. The nails will pull back very easily if I hit my foot on something, or if someone bumps the toes so um yeah OW.

ETA I should add I have crazy toes, so my big toes are huge and fat, there's no curve to them at all, they're like short fat sausages..and then my other toes are teeny tiny weirdos-so even if the nails were cut curved it would probably look weird on me b/c of my toes.

I like the look of square nails. My toes and fingers are all square-- straight across with a slight curve on the corners. I don't do it for health reasons. I do it for aesthetics.

I think it's pretty! See my post above...my nails grow the same way! It's hip to be square??? LOL

Ditto. I cut them straight across because that's aesthetically what I prefer. I will add though that I keep them way short. Too short to be fashionable for sure. I loathe long toenails. :knockout: :knockout: :knockout:
