For some reason, in my little corner of the southeast US, I can''t find sushi rolling mats. We have always laid out the seaweed and spooned on rice and inner ingredients like avacado, and even canned tuna (I know, I know)for a quick fun dinner. I want to show my kids how to really do it (which I guess is really with the rice on the outside?), which would require more "equipment"- I''m just not sure what.

Does anyone have a recommendation where to get this kind of thing?

Also, what do you put in your homemade sushi?

Ebay?

I put avocado, salmon, ikura, tuna, crab meat etc in mine.

I''m very boring - I love california rolls.

I am soooooooo jealous of all of you. Sushi is so expensive here. FI and I couldn''t believe how cheap it was (about a third of the price) and how huge the portions of fish etc were when we were over last year. We had sushi every other day for 2 weeks!

If there is one near you, Crate & Barrel. The last time I was in one, which is all the time since I love it there, they have a section for sushi mats, the little condiment bowls, books on how to do it, etc.

I tried to make my own and failed badly. I ended up with just little piles of rice and seafood. It was still good though. I prefer to just go out and have the pros do it. I''m all about nigiri and sashimi.

World Market had some the last time I checked...

Pandora,
For a treat every now and again, we go out to a sushi bar..but my teen son has developed a serious "need" to made sushi at home (it is a favorite activity when he has get togethers with his pals away from home and now wants to do it at home all the time). We used to make it a lot as newly weds--it's nutritious and fairly easy and fun as heck. I could live on wasabi...put it on any and everything... edited to add--I don't use fish at home...too $$$--I use cream cheese, imitation crab, avacado, onion, carrot, whatever I can see in the pantry...

OHhhhh, wow..... hey, I think I know where our C and B is!!!! Cool! Thanks!
We make a mess all the time--and spoon it up...I don''t care what it looks like--as long as there''s soy sauce and wasabi, it''s all good!
