I handled jewelry purchases all wrong. I never had money for bling so didn't plan ahead and budget. Then impulsivity (is that even a word?) would hit (usually when I'm stressed) and I'd smack a very modest piece on the CC. Do that for 30 years and I could have afforded at least 3 or 4 really nice pieces. It's hard to realize but there it is. The only ones worth anything are my modest Rolex (that's another story) and my small ER.
I'm finally learning self control and don't buy those fashion pieces anymore. I love all jewelry but don't feel the urge to wear all jewelry. Daily I wear my curated ears and a cheap Casio (cuz I adore cheap Casio's), maybe a medallion pendant.
When I can't sleep and am anxious I think about those 5 to 10 pieces I should have budgeted for - classic, timeless stuff that you can wear anywhere. I advised my niece to think about her purchases as I should have, and see her first investment was a pair of diamond studs. Atta girl!
If I ever win any money, I'll do it right this time. A few holy grails.
