I know, weird question right? I''ve never worn rings before so this engagement ring thing is new to me. I''m not sure how one is supposed to fit.

In the mornings I need to very slightly tug to get the ring off. The rest of the day though it moves freely and if I were to swing my arm really hard it would come off. It slides side to side. If I get my hands wet, it would easily come off no problem.

Sound like I need a ring guard or is this the right fit?

Depends on both your finger shape and what you prefer.

I like my rings loose, and my knuckles are bigger than the fleshy part my ring sits on, so I can wear rings 1/4-1/2 sizes bigger than my "fit". If I shake my hand really hard they would probably fly off, though, and I''ve had a couple of soap scares, so I''ve learnt to be careful with my left hand in general.

One of my friends has the opposite finger shape - her fingers are tapered so the upper part is bigger than the knuckle, and she wears her ring quite tight.

Mostly preference.

it is a matter of personal preference, but I think if you can shake it off it''s too loose.

Ditto.

My quess is that your ring is about 1/2 size too big. Here is why. When I had my new ring, like you, I had to slightly pull the ring in order to remove it and was able to shake it off. Since then, I had the ring resized twice, a 1/4 size each time. It fit comfortably loose a few months ago when the weather was warm. Now, the ring feels a little more loose, but I cannot easily shake it off. Therefore, I know I can take it down another 1/4 size if I want to. However, I am keeping mine as is, because I can also wear it on my slightly bigger, right hand finger.

Before you resize your ring, make sure you try on other size metal rings for a while to determine the size that best fits you.

I''ve become a huge fan of my "speed bumps" aka sizing beads. It annoyed me to no end that my ring would rotate on my finger. If I had a big sodium day or it was hot I could get big enough for the fit to tighten up, but that was rare. Still I didn''t want to go overboard. Solution. Med sizing beads. No more spinning but still plenty of room if I am feeling a bit bloaty. Highly recommend.

yup. sounds too big for sure. you can get sizing beads, or a ring gaurd to keep it on, but i would look into it now. One of the Brides in Waiting actually lost her ring in a NYC cab b/c it had become too big due to weight loss. It IS possible for it to fall off, even if unlikely.

Katomm,
Before you resize, consider how your ring will fit once your wedding band is on too. Your rings will fit more snugly when stacked.

In the summer, my fingers swell and my e-ring (size 4) gets pretty tight and is slightly uncomfortable. I purposely got my WB a size larger (sz 5) to accomodate this. In the winter, my ering is loose enough that I can shake it off if I tried. So I stack 2 other rings on the outside to prevent it from falling off. Personally, I''d rather keep my e-ring slightly loose and have the versatility of stacking.

If you''re afraid of it falling off now, I would just wear a plain band on the outside, even if it looks like you''re married already. :) You would not want to lose that precious e-ring!

I was going to mention the same thing - the fit WILL change when you add a band.

HUGE DITTO! I had an unsizeable ring that was nearly 2 sizes too big- big enough to fall off- and largeish sizing beads make it fit perfect. It''s never too tight, and it very rarely spins. It fits better than any ring I''ve ever had.

OP, I would say that your ring is probably the ideal size to put the sizing beads in- a bit too loose. Thing is, if you make your ring size tight especially in the winter, to keep it from spinning, it could easily be too tight in the summer. Sizing beads fix that- they are the bees knees!

Me too. It fell right off my finger in the living room at night and I never noticed. I discovered it missing at work the next day, and drove home in a big freakout, which I shared with my DH and we searched the house for an hour before we found it under the couch. I''d put off sizing it after I''d lost 30 lbs, I didn''t think it was *that* much too big. But after that, and after it fell off in bed a couple of times, I had it reset. Moral of the story: don''t wear your ring too big!

Neatfreak had a similar accident involving her too-big ring and a garbage disposal!

Thank you so much everyone!! I''m going to look into the sizing beads for sure.

The diamond in my e-ring is my fiance''s grandmother''s so I really, really don''t want to ever lose it.
