Does anyone have experience on how long a well-made 6 prong setting should last before needing repairs? What are the factors that could bend a prong out of shape, or cause a diamond to fall out? And assuming the diamond''s girdle is "slightly thin - med", is it a matter of time before such a diamond chips if set in a 6 prong solitaire?

Thanks

Different people have very different lifestyles. Some are extremely aggressive while others are very sedentary and the typical wear on the prongs will advance at wildly different rates. Most new rings don’t require routine type repairs for several years and some can wear them for a lifetime with no issues.

There are always possibilities beyond the range of ‘normal wear’ that can require a repair and in the extreme this could happen on the very first day. There is no way to summarize all of the choices in a short post but your jeweler or appraiser should have no problem identifying these things. Is there a particular repair that has been recommended to you or are you just looking for theoretical information?

Thanks

I''m just looking for averages really. My fiancee would be the more sedentary type I woud think, and her work won''t require her to use her hands in any hard way. If assuming no one-off events, such as accidentally hitting the ring against a hard surface etc, how long should I expect a well-made Pt 6 prong setting to last before needing repairs?

(WF is making the ring so I assume the workmanship will be excellent.)

Hi
My very thin 6 prong enagement ring (3 brilliant diamond stones) have so far (touch wood

) lasted 13.5 years without any repairs or issues. I dont wear the ring when I am inside doing housework, gardening, or any other tough activity, but apart from that it is on my hand always.
