I think we got together on March 13, 2004. But somehow, I mistook that for April 13th, and 2 years later, I''ve forgotten our 2 year anniversary. No, WE forgot it. But at least we remember each other''s birthday''s. Anyhow, tomorrow is April 13th, and a month ago, thinking our anniversary was on April 13th, we decided we would schedule a day off together. So tomorrow, we are going to San Francisco''s Jewelry Mart. We''re also visiting another independent wholesale jeweler in SF, whom I found on yelp.com (Atlas Diamond Company). I drew up a spreadsheet with at least 10 vendors, 6, who are all on pricescope.com. In doing my research, I''m seeking out the right diamond, and intend to pass that info along to my BF, since it''s his finances that will be most abused by this.

I''ve been engaged before, but it was significantly less anticipatory and exciting. I really love my man, and waiting all this while for him to afford me a diamond ring that I''ve earnestly researched and contemplated at length will do us both the proper service, rather than resorting to a buttrape by some B&M jeweler.

I feel I''m pretty damn lucky to be able to choose what I want, at least to the extent that I can spec out EXACTLY what the jeweler can obtain, and let him know, so that he can keep his desire to surprise me.

Now, if only I could decide what I want to wear for the next 80 years..

Dating for almost two years...waiting (after having "the" talk) for about 4 months

I guess I will add my $0.02 here.

P and I have been great friends since summer of 1998. We started dating in August 2001, so all together we have been dating about 4 years and 8 months.

He started looking at rings in January 2005 (yes I did type this correctly!!!). We started discussing rings openly in March 2005 --- so that means that we have actively been looking for over a year!!!

P told me about a month ago that he intended to propose before I return for my last year of law school in September. Well, today he has decided that this is too soon, since it can take up to 8 weeks to have a ring made (in his opinion). A comment I can't understand considering he still has almost 5 full months until then!!! Ohh --- and of course he is bringing this up now --- when I wrote one final exam on Monday, one on Tuesday and I am currently in the process (kind of) of studying for another exam tomorrow!!!

I just don't understand mens' sense of timing (or lack there of)!!!

I definitely needed the 7+ category, but I voted in 6-7!

Of course, my Bf told me tonight that he only really considers it 3 and a half, since that is when we got back together after breaking up for six months.

So the other 3+ years are expendable?

We''ve been dating five years and two weeks (just had our half-decade anniversary!) I''d say I''ve been waiting for about 1 1/2 years. We had actually set a date in late 2004 (casually, there was no actual proposal) but BF has showed little interest since then...

Our 7th anniversary is in a month. We also broke up for about 6 months after our 2nd anniversary and my boyfriend told me that he counts the time after that point as when our "real" relationship began. He said for him things were so much different that he doesn''t lump the time together

I guess the first two years of mine dont count either. Ah well. Men.

your company matches your 8% contribution on your 401K for the 20 years you put in - but because of a financial hardship you stopped contributing and so did your company for one full year

after that time you started again and the company matched your 8% for 5 more years
now you are ready to retire and they will not pay you for the first 20 years because of the "break" - you have more time till vested because the first 20 do not count

different yet similar analogy - btw I am not well versed in this matter so take it for the idea and not my word tracks

Hmmmmm, I am sure men came up with that rule too!

I know with teachers'' state pensions, sometimes you can "buy back" years from previous states. I wonder if there is some way to buy back the first 3+ years of our relationship?

It will be 6 months this Apr. 30th! And as I just mentioned on another thread, about another 2 years before I can expect a ring for various reasons.

My DF proposed to me last Valentine''s Day, at that stage we had been together for 5 years and three weeks. We planned a long engagement (2-3 years... want to finish our new house first

) before we are married, which will be November 2007. At that point we will have been together almost 8 years.
