How much can a channel set band be sized down?

Does anyone know? Is it safe to size a channel set band down 1.5 to 2 sizes? Or do you think this would affect the security of the channels? It's gold if that makes any difference. I don't want to have any stones fall out. Thank you!

Take this with a grain, but Tiffany's in NYC repair dept told me they do not or will not resize channel set bands more than 1/2 size up or down. I have been told it can go up or down a FULL size by the local store, but I favor the repair dept since thats who does the work. They said it's because of the tension it needs, even though from what I can tell in the 30x loupe, there are "prongs" holding the stones within that channel... So again, a grain.

Hopefully someone like Jim Summa or another benchie will chime in.

Yikes, Ame. I suspect that what you're saying is probably accurate. This (reputable) vendor is selling a band that I really want, and they are saying it can be sized down from an 8.25 to a 6.75. Sounds like that would just be too much, but they are insisting it's perfectly safe. I am skeptical.

I personally would not size them at all. If too large by a half size or so, I'd add sizing beads.

Oh, no way, Laila! I'd only buy a band in my size or 1/4 size too big because I could still wear it.

Uh, no. That's WAY too much of a jump for my comfort. What happens if you end up losing a ton of stones? Are they gonna keep fixing it?

I hope that I never have to size my band, I have a little concern about that...
