How much for a pair of 1 ct each diamond earrings on average?

How much on average does a pair of just shy of 1 ct each RB diamond earrings cost? My earrings, which I wear every day and do love as they are indeed sparkly, have eye visible black specs in them and very thick girdles. Total CW of both together is just shy of 2 carats. I think they are I or J. And we paid $4000-$4500, of course not knowing anything about diamonds at the time. Just curious if we got taken for a serious ride.

GG we need a bit more info please.

Do these diamonds have a grading report? That can influence price, do you know what clarity grade they are? Where did you buy them from, a jeweller? It is very difficult to judge price as there are so many variables, place of purchase, possibly split colour grades and unknown cut quality, but it sounds as if you did ok with price assuming no report, lower clarity, brick and mortar jeweller etc.

They were from a one man show, a really old German WWII survivor, who sold my brother-in-law my sister's e-ring. So my fiance trusted him. He sits in a room by himself in the diamond district, no store, no report. Apparently, my fiance asked for a report and the guy didn't seem to know what he was talking about (or so I was told which might not be the case as my fiance is not one to question somebody normally, he is a pretty trusting guy). My fiance knows little about diamonds and has little interest honestly, so he just went with whatever he was given by the guy. I was told at the time by my fiance that they were SI, about 0.96-0.98 or so carat each, but which clarity specifically I don't know. However in one diamond I clearly see huge black specs so I am thinking it's gotta be an I. Also the girdle is so thick. Compared to my Tiffany e-ring this girdle is many many times thicker. I looked at them with my friends Ideal-scope, one looked pretty good but the one with black specs performed terribly. I will try to take some pics when I get home.

I just measured them FYI and both are about 6.05 mm x 6.05 mm which seems small for a just shy of 1 carat, doesn't it? I suppose maybe it's the uber thick girdle
