So, I have a couple of pregnant friends IRL right now, and we all marvel at how different our weight gain has been for our body types. It''s funny, because there are 4 of us that are about the same height and weight, and during our first pregnancies, we gained 25, 35, 65 and 80 pounds, yet we all bounced back to our normal weights within a year after the birth. I have other some other friends who gained as little as 9 pounds, or as much as 100. I am just curious as to what the PS "average" is. It''s funny, because doctors say the average is 25-35 pounds, but it seems like it varies so much more in real life!

So, here are my 2 pregnancy weight gains:

1st pregnancy - started at a healthy weight, and gained 35 pounds
2nd pregnancy (am now 28 weeks along) - started 15 pounds above my regular weight because of fertility drugs (was still technically a healthy weight), but I wanted to only gain about 25 pounds this time. So far I have gained 19 pounds, but since I still have 12 weeks to go, I think that I''ll probably end up gaining around 30 all together.

I gained 25 lbs. It was my first pregnancy, started at healthy weight.

1st Pregnancy - gained 40 lbs
2nd Pregnancy - gained 25 lbs.

I'm about 18 lbs lighter now than I was before my first pregnancy.

28 lbs, mostly in 2nd tri. I started at average weight. I''m pretty much back down to pre-preg wght - baby was born 2 months ago.

I gained 26 pounds and have yet to lose it. My whole body changed after giving birth.

I gained too much...50 pounds. Started at a healthy weight. Lost 35 pounds within first week after giving birth 8 weeks ago. Still have 15 to lose. I have a feeling I will need to work to get those 15 pounds off!

well i still am in the final days of pregnancy, but so far at 39.5 weeks, it''s 37 lbs and i haven''t gained any weight in 2 weeks. i started at a normal ''good'' weight that i was happy at. it is 90% in my belly and boobs, and rest in my hips and butt.

i know it varies big time on how you lose it, but one of my friends gained 40 from normal weight, and lost 3/4 of it in the first 2 weeks and she never works out. i am hoping i am like her.

i also plan to start working out as soon as i am able to. i really miss it, i used to work out 5x a week. i will report back!!

I gained WAYYY too much. I gained 55 lbs!

I am only 5'1", started out at a normal weight and the scary thing was at 20 weeks I was only up 8 lbs which means I gained 47 lbs in 20 weeks

Even though I have lost it all my body is completely different and not in a good way.

I gained 48 pounds. I started out thin with a BMI below 20. At 3 months, I still have 23 pounds to go -- BMI is between 23 and 24. I know that''s considered "normal," but I have a really small frame and want to lose at least 15 pounds from here.

With every pregnancy, I''ve started out somewhere between 112 and 115 lb. and at delivery weighed between 150-155 lb. It took me 5 months to lose all of it with my first, but oddly enough, with the rest, I was back in my regular clothing between 2-4 weeks post-partum. I attribute that to breastfeeding and my father''s awesome metabolism.

I gained 25 lbs. with both pregnancies. Started at a healthy weight both times--exactly 103. Lost it all both times and even a little more now (I''m down to about 100 lbs) but even 16 months after this 2nd baby, my body is just not the same!

It was around 45 lbs, but a lot of it was fluid (from the pre-e). I still don't know how, but I was at my pre-preg. weight ~2 weeks after giving birth.

(Not to thread jack, but Curly your girls are getting so big! I can''t believe it!

I started with a BMI of 22 and gained 37 pounds. I lost 20 pounds just by giving birth.

Funny you should ask, I was just looking at my pregnancy journal yesterday. I was at +35 pounds around 37 weeks so I figured I'd gain between 35 and 40 total. Then I got pre-eclampsia and gained 15 lb of fluid in about 2 weeks. The drs assured me that it was not fat but fluid, as that is a major symptom of pre-eclampsia. Let me tell you it was no fun getting on the scale to see that I'd gained like 5 lb in as many days! So if you count that, around 50. I'm having a hard time losing the last 15, but I have slow metabolism! I work out at least 5x/week and still breastfeed.

Lots, 42 to be exact, twins 22" & 21" respectively, all belly/top.
Went back to my regular clothing after 6 months but not the top, probably because I pumped for 5 months

started at 108, gained 23 lbs with first pregnancy.

started this pregnancy at 103 lbs (gotta loooove breast-feeding!)....have a feeling i will gain lots more this time around!!!

I must admit that I am terrified about gaining weight now that we are actually trying

I thought I would be okay with it, but it''s going to be a struggle!

1st pregnancy - gained 30 lbs (started at 111 lbs)
2nd pregnancy - gained 33 lbs (started at 108 lbs) unless I gain more before I give birth.

So I ended up at 141 lbs both times. Kind of funny.

28 pounds for each pregnancy.

HI:

About 26 pounds, started at around 115lbs. Lost it very quickly.

cheers--Sharon

i gained just about 40 lbs with each pregnancy. started at a normal weight and bounced back after each one. I actually weighed a couple of lbs less at my last check-up than I did pre-pregnancy''s. I had big babies though too, a 9lb''er helps the weight to come off faster

I started at about 115 and gained 30 during my pregnancy with James. I lost 20 in the first week and the rest sort of slid off over time. I''m back at my starting weight, but my body is so different now and not in a good way

I think I need to start a lipo fund next.

You all sound like you''ve done really well with the weight!!!!

Ice-I hear you. I am already kind of chubby for my frame (a really curvy size 14/16 and I''m around 5''8") and I''m 31 so I am afraid I might turn into a super chub during pregnancy. My body loves to hold on to fat, it''s like I am built to live in a starvation situation b/c my body would last forever there....

Ummmm, I''m embarrassed to admit...I''m 5''3" and I started at 107 and ended up 9 months later at 167

My son was 2 oz. short of 10 lbs. and I weighed 145 when I left the hospital. I lost all the weight within 2 years but it was never as easy after that. Hormonal changes or something?

first pregnancy 30 lbs
second pregnancy 18 lbs

First pregnancy- 11 pounds (I was really sick and lost 15 in the first tri)

Second- 28 pounds (no morning sickness this time!)

I found it really easy to lose the pregnancy weight and another 20 pounds that was all mine after the first baby. The second, not so much!

I gained 28 pounds but I delivered nearly a month early. I started at a normal weight and lost all of it and a little more.

QT, how funny! I ended up at 141 too.

I forgot to say anything about losing the weight.

With DD, I gained 28 pounds, was 105 . It took me a few weeks to lose the weight, I had a C section, and was round all around... GRR.

With DS, gained the same, 28 pounds, was 107 to start. Had a C section he came out 3 weeks early and was over 7 pounds.. I left wearing my skinny jeans. I carried so differently. The nurses who saw me leave were like no way....

I have no clue why there was such a diference. DD should have weighed more, as I was bigger all over. My feet, my stomach were HUGE!!! I went to a wedding, was supposed to be a bridesmaid... People parted like the seas to let me go by...

May I ask a related question?

Ladies--Did you find that your weight gain was similar to what your mother gained when she was pregnant? Just curious.
