How should I store my dress before the wedding?

I bought my dress way early. But I absolutely love it so there are still no regrets. My dress is suppsed to arrive at my house next Wednesday. I am not getting married until August 2009.

1. How should I store the dress until I start the alterations?

2. When should I start alterations? - It is a beaded wedding dress and it is definetly going to need some taking in. I don''t want to do it too early (incase of weight gain or loss) but I don''t want to do it too late (not have it in time for the wedding or if something goes wrong).

Suggestions would be great! Thank you in advance!!!!

I still haven''t done the sheet thing. I did take it out today and laid it on my bed all day so it can breath a little. Not sure if that helps at all, but it''s been laying on my bed all day and I smiled everytime I go into my room...hehe

Thank you Mandarine! Its funny because I remember reading that thread now that I see it again.

But I guess where my problem is I live with my fiance and I don''t want him to see the dress. And I am sort of limited on closet space (I tend to not through clothes away). The other issue is my dress is entirely beeded and weighs 15 pounds; and i had a entirely beaded dress for prom in high school and they told me to store it in a box because of the bead work and weight. I am guessing it deals with it possibly stretching the fabric with the weight. I dunno.

Does anyone have a similar dress (beaded) and have to store it before the wedding???

hmmm that''s a tough one. Mine is really not heavy (the box was less than 3 lbs)....so it;s just hanging in the spare room inside the garment bag.

Is there anyone you know that has extra space?..or how about storing it laying down under the bed??.

My FI would never look at it even if it was in his house and I wasn''t there...but that''s just the way he is!. I know I would be too curious! lol.

Mine had beading. Not sure the weight but it was on the heavy side. I described how I stored it in the other thread.

Thank you girls I think I have it figured out. I asked to put it in my fiance''s closet without him peaking, so i don''t have to worry about that. I will just keep my eye on it and see if it is fine. But Thank you again!

Any tips on altering? How long does it take?

I bought my dress a year and a half before the wedding, and it was fine just sitting in the bags it came in from the shop. As far as altering, I would really take it to whoever you''re going to have alter it a year out and get her opinion, that way you know for sure. Though if closet space is really an issue I would just store it flat under a bed. Good luck!
