I have been asked by a contact of mine to sell a very large uncut ruby. Here are the specs:

Identification: Natural Ruby
Weight: Don't want to say, but we are talking kilos
Shape: Natural Shape
Cut Type: One facet grinded
Origin: Madagascar
Gem Color: Hue slpR; Tone 6-md; Saturation 3-vslbr
Clarity grade: HI
Cutting grade: 1 surface cut
Polishing grade: Unpolished

What is the best way to go about selling this stone within a reasonable timescale? Who could I approach about selling this stone? Europe would be a preferred choice, but other market can be considered if that would be much more profitable.

Any information would be welcome.

Is this stone basically uncut since you wrote that it only has a single facet?
Secondly, you have written quality descriptions based on the AGL lab report format and description. Who assigned the colour and clarity grades to this ruby?
Given that this is heavily included is not sounding too good.
Treatment?

From the sound of it, your target market will be faceters / lapidaries or a cutting house.

Yes it is uncut. The details are from a certificate I was provided with. The certificate was issued in Madagascar. Not aware of any treatment, but then I don't know much about it's history nor have I seen the actual stone.

'Given that this is heavily included is not sounding too good. ' not sure what you mean by that. Can you elaborate?

Can you provide any company names I could approach?

It is not a good idea to sell something you know nothing about, much less have never seen. How can you negotiate pricing or tout the virtues of the stone without understanding gems and how they are evaluated? Heavily included rough are not desirable as they are very poor candidates to be faceted. Even if you can find a buyer, the price will be extremely low. I am sorry to be the bearer of poor news.

Heavily included does not sound like it is gemstone grade.

Here's an example for you ........... this is a heavily included Ruby (Sapphire and Emerald). It's basically of very very very very very little value and I have no idea why anybody would want to facet it! I got all 3 free when I purchased another gemstone.

So think about it, if I said to you "I've got a 15ct pear cut Ruby" you might think you were getting a good deal!
