I am designing a custom ring (still deciding who to use) and am wondering if you guys can tell me how one gets the engagement ring and wedding band to stay aligned? My girlfriend has very slender fingers that taper down from the knuckle and hand so in order for the ring to fit snugly over the knuckle, it is not very tight on the finger, so they her rings tend to turn (I wonder if there is a way to stop that also?). I am making the ering with a "euro" shank that is squared off in the bottom to try to stop it from turning but I don''t want the wedding band to be this way.

I have read about soldering the pieces together, but I don''t know if I like that idea. The designs are not such where you can get them to attach by form, and that will stop her from being able to wear the band by itself.

I am wondering if there is a system with pins where holes are drilled through both shanks (at the bottom) and maybe pins are inserted (perpendicular to the shank) to hold the rings together. Maybe sometimes clips are used. I don''t know. Please let me know of any ideas or examples you can provide.

Thanks!
Mario

i''ve heard that the euro shank helps with spinning, as long as they''re sized properly. i have a square shaped band by Jean-Francois Albert, which is supposed to fit more closely to the shape of the finger. Cehrabehra also has a square shaped band, https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/this-isnt-april-fools.69117/.

my rings don''t spin very much, but i still have to align them once in awhile so the diamonds match up.

the foolproof solution, apparently, is to solder them together. another option is to have a plain band or a band with a continuous design (engraving, milgrain, eternity band, etc). since your design has a half-eternity,

oops, let me finish that thought,
since your design is a custom half-eternity, you might want to look into a square shaped ring.

maybe others with euroshanks can give you some more advice.

i wear a size 5.5. the stone is 1.04ct, and the wedding band is a half-eternity, bead-set .22ctw.

Any particular reason why? I think it would bother me if the shanks of my rings weren''t the same shape.

Some people have suggested sizing balls and/or pads, which may help with spinning. Otherwise the euroshank (on BOTH) is your best option, IMO.

You could also try a horse shoe sizer.

I''d probably just solder them and get a second band of some sort to wear when not wearing the set.

I''m curious as to why the e-ring could be squared off and the wedding ring should be round, too....

...but strangely enough, that''s how my setting is. My e-ring is euro - I think there''s a pic of its profile in the under 1 ct thread in smtr about two pages back from the end, and my w-ring is a 1/2 eternity (more like 3/4, actually). My rings really don''t spin at all, and when they''re about to, I subconciously move the corner of the squared shank back with my thumb. I don''t want to solder (sp?) the rings either so I can do an anniversary band later or stack other rings, so I understand not wanting to that.

It sounds from the post that you''ve already chosen the setting, but I think Flyer Fit rings have some sort of mechanism so they stick together.

THanks for the responses. I have heard from designers that there are clip you can put on the insid of the ring (at the botom) that will hold the rings together. Is there anyone who has had experiences with this? I will think about the eternity and euroband for the band. First I am trying to settle on a manufacturer for my ring. THis has been a long process, but when it is done, I will talk to them about my options.
Thanks!
Mario

I really want to hear more about this clip

I had my rings put together because it drove me crazy to always have to put them back in alignment.

Did you find the wider pair still slid over your knuckle easily?

I''ve never heard of a clip. My jeweler told me I needed to have my rings soldered together at my last "check up". I had several loose stones, and etching on the e-ring from the diamonds in the band. He said the constant movement of the two rings against each other would cause the stones to loosen again and the etching to get worse. I didn''t want to do it, but in the end, I''m glad I did. I don''t want to lose any stones if I don''t have to.

How were yours put together? This clip?

The clip that I have seen is made of a clear plastic (i believe), and it simply clips onto the two rings on the back of the finger. Any type of ring guard (that is metal) or clip will have the potential to rub and dent the gold on the ring and potentially wear it down over time. There are arthritic (sp?) shanks available that are intended for those that have problems with their rings fitting due to arthritis. They have a little clasp type mechinism that opens and allowes the wearer to put the ring on below the knuckle and have it fit comfortably without being too loose. They are a neat concept, but can be very pricey.

Good luck making a decision!

Unless she really wears her wedding band alone a lot, I''d just get them soldered together. I had done that before with my 3-stone ring and my 5-stone anniversary band, then upgraded the 3 stone and now plan to solder them together again. The spinning is driving me crazy.
