Hi All !!!! Can anybody let me know how we will know whether a stone is treated or not. Coz here as a collector there are people who just see stones and purchase it . But if its costly then its not easy to pay get the stones at that rate and even not certified also.

so before buying i would like to know some point on it to test .

Hello,

Currently I'm teaching every morning from 9am to 12am at the AIGS (Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences) an english speaking class about "Synthetic and treated gemstones".
The course takes one month to be completed...and it is part of the Gemologist diploma program (6 months studies at the AIGS in Bangkok, Thailand)

So the anwer to your question require more than an answer to a post.
But there are many ways you can learn about that: You can read books and then try to look at gemstones using a microscope. Your main problem then will be to have an access to reference gemstones.

Here at AIGS the students have access to a very complete collection of gemstones from all nature origin and treatments. They can compare them and ... I'm here to help them to make the link between the stone and the theory in their books.

To me this is the best way to learn:
To have a good course, a good teacher and a complete collection of gemstones.
But even with that you will not become good if you forget to work!

Dear Mogok,

Thanx for your comments. Its really true that a person should take some course and study some books on gems. Can you suggest me some good books to read on gemstone.

Hey a course is a good idea. Anybody know of something like that in San Francisco?

Hello,
Well there is GIA in Carlsbad...
But well for the price of the course there and the cost of life during the studies, you can fly to Asia, learn and visit all the mining and gem markets around... and may be still have some money left!
This is what I did... lol... and I'm very happy with that choice as at the end I was able to find a good work in Bangkok!

All the best,

I'm already working hard to kick start one career at the moment, but it would be fun to take a short course just for the fun of it . I love learning.

Maybe there is a short course in Thailand I could take one day. I visited there once for several months and made it as far as the Burmese border. It's a great country, has everything, beaches, mountains, big cities, great hiking, good food and friendly people. But Bangkok wasn't my favorite place, too hot and congested, and I've never seen that kind of traffic before.
