Hi all! I mentioned awhile back that my husband has gotten into cutting stones. Soon after getting started, he had to take a break for a few months when his day job got really busy and he had some issues with his faceting machine's calibration. He was able to get back into it recently, and decided to cut a stone for his Mom's birthday. The stone is a peridot from Pakistan, beautiful apple-green, cut into a 8.72mm standard round brilliant. The rough was 9.02 carats and it yielded a 2.43 carat cut stone. This is the 10th stone he's ever cut! He's very meticulous, so it still takes him longer to cut a stone than he'd like, but the end result very much qualifies as "precision cut." His Mom already owns some peridot earrings, bought from our most prestigious local jeweler who specializes in colored stones, and I'm perversely happy to say that her earrings pale by comparison to our pendant!
We had her peridot set into a basic 14k yellow gold pendant. For the pics, I am wearing it on the only gold chain I own (I'm more of a platinum girl). I think it looks much better on a shorter, different-style of chain, but this chain was all I had. I kinda hated to give it up!
First up, a pic of the rough! From left to right, then top to bottom is: Apatite, Rubellite Tourmaline, Loliondo Spessartite x 3, Peridot, Pink Spinel, and Blue Zircon.
And here's the finished pendant... I should note, however, that Peridot is definitely not my color. I don't think it goes well with my fair skin, but MIL has much more olive-toned skin and she looks great in these yellow-green type hues.
