I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one?

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

Looks like a nice looking tanzanite in the video.

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

Does it look dark on the ends and pale in the middle in the video?

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

I do not know if that is obstruction/reflection of the camera. This question is best answered by Jeff.

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

Should I just have it sent to me and see it in person?

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

The stone is being sent from Thailand. Please ask Jeff about the shipping cost and how international returns are handled.

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

Aaaaah. Is Litnon also overseas?

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

Is there any way you can receive them both and compare? If not, I would go for the Litnon stone.

I agree that this is the best route if you can swing it.

If I got them both but didn't like the one from Jeff, to save myself the return shipping cost, that there would be any buyers for it on Pre-loved?

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

It is best to return to the vendor where you will get a full refund minus shipping cost. You will lose more when trying to sell it in the secondary market. There will be buyers but it will take time. They also have to consider than the sale is final and most are pretty good negotiators. You also take a hit with PayPal fees and lose a little anonymity/privacy, if that matters to you.

Ug! I am torn about what to do.

I have a $2,000 budget, everything comes out of that...(setting, shipping, side stones)

This is my first colored stone and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew...(would getting Jeffs tanzanite then possibly sending it back, be the "more than I can chew)

I still have to consider a setting because I don't want it to sit in a safe...(I'd love some diamonds in it)

Sorry for all the rambling...

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

Well. I ordered the one from Litnon.

And I put in the order for the one from Jeff and he said, "I've seen the post on Pricescope, the ladies make some interesting and valid points though they miss one that in my opinion is very important in Tanzanite, the cut and polish. The Tanzanite is at my lock up, I will get it back and check the colour more accurately in the next few hours."

Sooooooo that is where things are right now. And can you tell I am new to all this...I hadn't considered cut and polish. How can I tell how good cut and polish is?

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

For me, colour will always come first but I will only sacrifice cut to an extent. Precision cutting is not a requirement but a nice bonus if the gem is the colour I want in the first place. I will not accept an obviously off symmetry gem, a window larger than 20% of the gem, more than 30% extinction or the half shadowing, lopsided culet, or wavy girdle. To me, colour is created naturally and enhanced by cutting. If the colour isn't there in the first place, there is only so much good cutting can enhance. In short, I don't need precision cutting but I need the gem to be well cut. Most people new to coloured stones, especially those dipping their toes in from the white or colourless diamond world, tend to be more enamored by sparkle and flash, hence place more importance in cutting.

Polish falls under the category of cut. There are both well cut and poorly cut non-precision cut stones and there are well excecuted and poorly executed precision cut stones. For the most part, most PSers will not recommend poorly cut stones. The link below is also how I define precision cutting.

Thank you for your insight and wisdom, Chrono. I haven't heard back from Jeff, but I got a tracking number from Litnon this morning :appl: !

Re: I am a lucky girl and can get a Tanzanite, but which one

I hate to bring up an old thread from the dead, but did you end up keeping that Litnon stone Patty? The reason I ask is because they still have it listed on their site and it caught my eye.

Thanks!
