One Jeweler told me that I should not settle for any thing less than F color, because he won''t buy it back later.

I personally like to go bigger just for the wow factor since my fiance would appreciate that more.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Hi!
Why don''t you go with another vendor online who will buy back diamonds if you go lower in color? You can go with an H or even lower if you get a superior cut stone and still have it face up white in save a ton of cash to get the size your looking for, AND have a great upgrade policy. I bought from goodoldgold.com and they will make videos for you and send pics, and you can get it appraised and look at it in person before you set it if you need to feel more comfortable. GOG is an actual store that does things online as well.

Here is ONE and ANOTHER and probably your BEST OPTION. I say that about the WF stone, because I KNOW it will face up white and you wont have to worry about the color at all because it''s cut is amazing, and the VS2 is giong to be clean, AND it''s a great size, AND in your budget if you wire the money (or just spend a wee bit over!)

Here is one from James allen (good upgrade policy, but not as great as GOG or WF from what I''ve heard...idk though, haven''t dealt with them).

If it''s eye clean, it''s the best for you budget, then your getting size, the best cut, AND not paying for something you can''t "see" with your eyes. Here is the James allen stone

Hi KirkLA!

Have you seen these stones in person? Are the two SI2''s eye clean?

If so, I would go with one of them since you''d prefer a bigger stone. The color shouldn''t be a problem since they are well cut.

Ditto that! Have you looked at any SI1s at all?...I was just curious as you were looking at VS2s and SI2s...perhaps an eyeclean SI1 would be easier to find than and eyeclean SI2. In addition, an eyeclean SI1 with a solid color grade would help you maximize your carat weight, rather than getting a VS2.

GOOD LUCK!

thanks for the replies so far.

This one jeweler also said he won''t buy back if there is significant fluorescence (I think he would consider buying back diamonds later, even if I didn''t buy it from him in the first place).

I guess if I was gonna go against the jeweler and go for the bigger diamond with colors, I guess I should also consider fluorescence for more bang for the buck? I''ve heard arguments that some fluorescence with colors may actually work okay since they may whiten out. As you see, the five stones I chosen have no fluorescence and excellent cut per HCA.

Kirk,

Is there a reason you are concerned about the jeweler buying back the stone? If so, perhaps you should consider a ps vendor with a good return and upgrade policy...

As far as fluorescence is concerned, lots of people here love some fluorescence. Striking the right balance between all these factors is really personal. You should try to take a look at different stones so you see what looks good to you.

Well,

I guess if some jeweler is willing to buy back the stone, it probably means it''s worth more.. possibly in the future. I am sensing that there may be certain trend in the future of what type of diamonds may become more expensive. This is another topic of conversation, but.. is it possible that 10 years later D diamonds would be a lot more expensive than now?

I think you have your answer...

Makes both of you happy!

Have you seen it in person and is it eyeclean to your standards?
I would not purchase based on what that vendor told you. If you are really worried about needing to change the stone later, then buy from a vendor that will take the stone back for credit towards a different stone.

I would go for the G SI2 if is eye clean. Fluorescence is a personal choice, if you like it and want it go ahead. As long as the stone is the best cut it will appear white even the lower colors. Check out this thread. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/j-color-stones-in-platinum.24731/

Are you planning on upgrading the stone at some point? If you are then I would go with a vendor who has a good upgrade policy and forget about this jeweler who is putting all these restrictions on your diamond choices if you buy from them and want to upgrade later. The vendors on this forum know and appreciate a good diamond wether it is a D or a J (or lower!). As previously mentioned Whiteflash and Good Old Gold have great upgrade policys and you are sure to get a knock out stone! One of these vendors may also beable to get one of the diamonds you''ve already listed and if not you can give them your budget and what you are looking for and they will help you find the biggest best diamond for your money! Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I guess I WILL ask the FOLLOW UP QUESTION..

Which one of the five diamonds you think will worth disportionally more 10 years from now?

May be another question (for myself, I guess).. HOW would my future wife upgrade her diamond in the future, in terms of colors, clarity, etc. (this is a personal preference, I know).. but if I am getting her a 2 C, I doubt she will go for a bigger one in the future.. .. of course, the real answer should be that she won''t upgrade..

Who knows, she may want to change shape later.

I wouldn't choose a stone based on future prices. Diamonds (unless they are of the named variety such as the Hope, etc) are not good investment pieces. Unfortunately they are a lot like cars - once you drive them off the lot/plop 'em on a finger you can't get back the $ you paid. That is why if you think you may be changing it, then a retailer with a trade in policy is beneficial. I have had jewelers ask (unsolicited) on different occasions if I would be interested in selling or consider trading in my diamond when browsing stores, but I have never pursued any of the queries to see what they would offer. I am sure it would not be what it is worth, as a jeweler can easily get another stone for wholesale price.

I'd take care to SEE the S12's. You and she might see and/ or not like or not care about visible inclusions.

Quality will always be worth more than quantity in the future, but that's just my guess. Good luck!

Ditto L ( as usual!)
