Pretty much because it was $46. What to do with it? Cheap sterling stacking ring?

The last little red garnet I had I cared so little for I gave it away, but it was a not-so-awesomely-cut oval and it blacked out most of the time. Think this will be any better? It was a total impulse buy based on the price.

btw it's 1.46ct and measures 6.33 x 6.31 x 4.55. Eye clean and untreated.

Garnets should be untreated in any case. I have a feeling this one is going to black out too.

Yeah... kinda figured as much.

I watch about a thousand things on ebay. I got a notification and by the time I checked it there was less than a minute left and it was still super cheap. Probably won't even be worth the money to send it back overseas though.

I too think it will black out.

if you think about the $ you spend on stones you either give away or don't want and add that up, well, in a period of time you have the $ to buy a better stone......just saying.

now if you can afford this process and are doing it to have a learning experience and develop your eye, its not a bad thing to do.

Agree it will black out. It's a temptation to buy something, thinking "maybe...." because the price is low, but in the end not worth the added-up $. MZ's right, save the money & with it, buy one where you think, "Yesssss!"

Yep. I saw it and thought I'd get it as long as it stayed under $50. Once I put my bid in I started to really hope someone outbid me. That's how you know it's a bad purchase!

I definitely don't have the kind of funds to waste either. Oh well, you live, you (hopefully) learn.
