Hi! I am new to this forum. My boyfriend and I are trying to find the perfect engagement ring setting for my diamond. My diamond is just a tiny thing (.41 ct round diamond if you need more info I can get it for you) so I am trying to find (or make) a setting that will look great with my diamond. We bought the diamond from a local jeweler (and now finding this forum feel we didn''t get such a great deal) and were planning on having a custom setting made there as well.
I was looking at settings and fell in love with the idea of a rose gold halo. Problem is this jeweler didn''t really have more than 1 or 2 rose gold options and they were designed to have a much bigger center stone. Anyway, they said they could custom make something for us but I worry they are going to overcharge and we won''t get the most bang for our buck.
I would love a white gold band with a rose gold halo. I''d like a little milgrain on the band and small side diamonds on either side of the halo. The jeweler wanted to charge more than $2000 for this setting ($2000 being the budget). He said it would have about 15 itty bitty diamonds in the halo and about 6 itty bitty diamonds on either side of the halo. The band itself was going to be very slim and in 14k white gold.
After looking about online I really feel he is charging way too much for what it is and we don''t want to end up paying a ton for a very simple ring. I was wondering if you guys knew of any settings that would work with my small diamond or perhaps a place that can design something wonderful within our budget. Of course if you think that it sounds like my jeweler is charging a fair amount I''d like to know this as well.
We have plans to go back to the jewelers next month and go over the design and the cost of the ring again
(he said it may be more now with the rising cost of gold). We want to make sure we are informed on what we can expect with the budget we have. Thank you all for your time.
