I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

I’m going to be a grandma again! My daughter-in-law is expecting in June! I’m so excited!

OH my gosh!!!! I'm super excited! I finished my daughter's graduation quilt! As in, its in the washer/dryer NOW....I'M FINISHED!!!!! It's about the size of a queen (technically quilts have 8-10" over the edge of the bed, this one is about 3" over). I started this last November and had hoped to finish it this November, but no. My daughter isn't getting it until graduation (even though she asked so nicely ;) ) so I'll wash/dry, take tons of pictures, and then fold it away till May. So much work in this. I will be bringing it to school as my students saw me working on it. :D Here's a pic of the last bit of binding. :) She picked out the colors and approved the design. Official name is Dresden Mischief. There are Dresden flowers in the center, and the outer motifs are Mischief by the DIY Addict. It is mostly hand sewn (exceptions are the attaching of the Dresden petals, and sewing on the front of the binding), everything else is either English Paper Pieced or hand appliqued. Entirely hand quilted. Now to get cracking on her little sister's graduation quilt (she graduates next year).1577467748068.png

Oooo how beautiful, congratulations! What a treasure she'll have for the ages. I love the colors, I'd love to see more pics, its gorgeous! What a talent you have!! :appl:
 
@Mamabean, congrats on your newest family member-to-be, how exciting for everyone!! And I hope your grandson has recovered, poor thing!

And I can totally relate to laundry taking forever, even though my Speed Queen is a 2018 model, I wash the loads 2x each--for everything. It takes 5 hours to wash & dry a set of king sheets as you have to wash each sheet separately as they don't fit into the machine together. It's crazy.

We just hit 9K miles cycling today for the year so far. Woohoo! Though I wish the reason we were still here was different and I would give anything to have Francesca back with us and for the past 6 months to have been different health wise but nevertheless #makinglemonadeoutoflemons

Woohoo is right! Congratulation! I think your cycling kept you guys sane during these past trying months! Thank goodness you had something fun to do during that time!

Thank you @sarahb Wow! That is a long time! My new washing machine in Pa takes almost two hours to wash..It‘s so weird. It also doesn’t fill with enough water in my opinion...but it seems to be the new thing with washing machines conserving water.
 
I'm so exhausted... I had 23 people (DHS family and 4 , close friends) for a five course seated dinner on the 25th, our 4 friends who had stayed at our place left yesterday and tomorrow another 8 guests will arrive to celebrate new year's with us.

Went to 3 different doctors
with three kids in the am and early pm . When our painters called to say they won't be coming to our appointment at 2 pm, we spontaneously decided to go to town, look at Christmas decorations and eat out.

MISTAKE

When we got home we found our place burglarized...everything turned upside down.
They did not find the safe , so my ER and ACC are ok, but stupid stupid stupid me had not put some sentimental pieces of my girls back into the Safe. Gold baptisms medals, name bracelets etc. They wore them for Christmas and yesterday. For the doctor we left them here.

Still waiting for the cops . We called 2 . 5 hours ago. It's 11 pm and my shaken kids can't go to bed, cause they told us for the fourth time not to touch anything... otherwise no insurance.
I put a brainless barbie movie on and am feeling sick.
Still breastfeeding no.7, otherwise I'd be having a big alcoholic beverage right now.

Phewwww needed to get that out!!
 
@kapari, I am so sorry, what a terrible thing to have happen. So sad that sentimental pieces were taken as well. Such a hard thing on everyone. Really sorry you have to deal with this.

@kipari Oh honey, I am so very sorry :( What an invasion of safety and security:( I hope the police can find the criminals and get your possessions back and more importantly that you can find peace and feel safe again.

I am sending warm and loving gentle hugs across the many miles and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Please tell your little ones that we are all sending you positive energy and lots of love.

the police came around midnight. The special burglary task force is scheduled to search for evidence early this am.... The worst part is that we cannot tidy up until they've been here. So house is in a horrible state and I'm not sure what's missing...
Not feeling safe. They disabled our WiFi at the telecom post outside the property. dH ist trying to still get the data out of the cameras, which is supposed to be possible. We've been having huge WiFi problems (three technicians on site, spent three hours at the provider's b&m Shop) for a week, so weren't alarmed, when the security system showed offline.

@kipari I am so so sorry. What a terrible violation and I can understand not feeling safe. I am glad the police are on the case and that the special burglary task force is coming today.
I hope your dh can get the footage from the security cameras.

In the future perhaps consider finding an alarm security system not tied to wifi. There are security systems that use radio signals so less vulnerable than wifi. I am not sure what is available to you where you live. You can still beat the radio signal security systems but it provides an extra level of security.

Sending continued good thoughts and safe vibes your way and I am so sorry you and your family are going through such a scary thing. Praying the police will find them and more importantly that you and your family feel safe again soon. And the main thing is you weren't home and you are all OK. (((Hugs))).
 
Omg @kipari I’m so sorry..That is so frightening and upsetting.....I’m so happy you and your family weren’t home at the time. Things can be replaced but they are safe....I know it must be heartbreaking to know they also took sentimental things...I hope they find the people responsible. Is it possible it can be one of your guests or the technicians, painters, etc. that were in your house? The children must be frightened as well as you...Can you stay at a relatives’s or friend’s house for a few days while they do the investigation? My heart goes out to you. <3

@Mamabean not only do some models not fill enough, they don't agitate adequately either, which is the problem with my Speed Queen, hence I wash each load 2x. I just wish we could go back to the plain old agitator, that filled to the top! In the guise of 'saving water', it really doesn't quite do the trick, sort of like those low flow showers, & toilets that have to be flushed multiple times. We live in a house that is 60 years old & when we've remodeled, I've kept the toilets!
 
@kipari I’m SO sorry. What an absolutely awful thing... you were gone for just a few hours! They must have been either counting on people being away at some point over the holiday, which is sickening, or watching for you specifically to leave, which is worse... and if you can’t clean up then of course you can’t know what else is missing!

Ringworm and ED seems like the very least these specimens should expect. I hope they’re caught and your beloved pieces retrieved quickly

We have all information we had to the police, fingerprints were taken, evidence as well and Monday we have an appointment at the police station for news and to file the official complaint. We asked our friends to give us a day to clean up, but they'll be here tomorrow. This will actually make me feel safer. Locks will be changed on Monday (this was planned anyways) and our heavy wooden shutters will go back up on Monday as well (had them sanded and painted). Children are coping All, but talking a lot about the "thieves".

I’m happy you will have company....and that you are carrying on as planned with them. I would also feel more secure with extra people in the house. I hope they find those “thieves”...Ringworm would be too good for them...
