I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

@vintageloves , If you were almost brought to tears with the having to part with it that is a strong indication that you love the bracelet. If you can afford the bracelet please keep it. Enjoy it and don’t feel guilty.

If the what I’m about to write isn’t helpful please just ignore it. Over 20 years ago my husband and I went on a long weekend vacation with friends of ours. As our husbands golfed, my friend and I went to jewelry stores. she fall in love with a necklace. A week later her husband called to ask if I remembered the jewelry store name and if I could describe the necklace she loved so he could surprise her with the necklace. She had talked about that necklace everyday since returning home.

She had three grade school kids and a four year old at the time and felt guilty about the money spent being on her and not the family. She went back and forth trying to decide if she should keep it. She kept it and wears this necklace all the time. She wore this necklace to two of her children’s weddings. It meant so much to her that her husband made sure he got this necklace for her. That necklace holds lots of lovely memories for her.

You love this bracelet. It will hold very special memories for you in the future.

Thank you for the kind words. We’re going to get insurance for it and I’ll keep it. I honestly don’t know if it works for my life or anything like that. It’s hard to judge when I can’t leave the house! I think I could have objective thoughts like that if this weren’t the first piece of diamond jewelry I’ve received since getting married 17 years ago. I think you get used to not having nice things. So this one time I’ll let myself be spoiled.

OMG, so tired! The newest member of our family (Gigi) is absolutely amazing. super adorable, very sweet. OMG so sensitive! Wants to be Lucky's best friend. (Lucky is not there yet!) there's been a little barking at each other but nothing major. Right now training is ongoing. Lucky is at the beach for an evening of alone time.

I’m in love. With all the wildlife here. This morning (as every morning) the seagulls are flying over the sea and playing. Joyous. Makes you believe almost anything is possible. ❤️

lol Her call name is OshkoshBrittany, she does not answer to it. However she IS answering to Gigi which is beyond weird.

Yesterday we went to the beach (on leash of course!) and I think it freaked her out a little. She's had a lot of changes in a very short amount of time though

There's some jealousy and posturing but its not major. I call them both over and give them both hugs. There's no resource guarding (well there's that ONE DAMN BED both wants) outside of that, and they do ride in my car peacefully.

Does not matter if my husband is there, if I leave a room she follows me. If I leave the house she whines (its the weirdest whine I've ever heard) Lucky also did this though she's gotten better about it over the years (now she could care less) She does appear to try to comfort Gigi without getting too close to her.

@Arcadian Haha They sound so cute together. That’s funny they want to have the same bed. They’re acting like true siblings!
Do you have a pic?

She’s tooooo cute! Gigi really does look a little like a lemur. She look depressed that she has to wear pjs! Bailey gets the same look when I put an antler headband on him at Christmas!

Took Lucky in as I have been suspecting since November that something wasn't quite right, especially with her breathing heavy at rest. Glad I did! We're looking at a grade 3 heart murmur, there's now some investigation into whatever else we need to do.

Lucky is my heart, just something about her made my heart dance and sing from the moment I saw her. And I knew she was mine from that moment too. She didn't show well for anyone else but me, so maybe kismet. But she's now 10 so I worry a lot. Greys can live to be 14 so I'm hopeful that whatever else gets found is going to be manageable. I'll update when I know more.

Hugs Arcadian!

I’m so sorry to hear that @Arcadian. I have had pets with heart disease and there is hope. Often a drug cocktail of 2-3 drugs is prescribed. Most of the time it works very well and can extend their life by years. If possible, you could research a vet cardiologist. In my area one flies in 1-2days a month to do consults. If a cardiologist isn’t available an IM specialist might do. Lucky is very lucky to have you. Sending hugs.

Her vet is amazing and has told me that it will be something to consider after all the blood work /xrays are done. He's extremely greyhound savvy (he really loves the breed!) as many of their values are different from other types of dogs. He will recommend me a fantastic specialist for her.

Even though she's been eating regularly (even with a few extra treats), her weight is down to 64lbs since October. (In October she was 2lbs over her normal 68lb weight.)

Thank you so much. I've been crying off an on most of today.

That is wonderful that her vet is so knowledgeable! Sounds like the vet is on a path to get it all addressed. It’s good to be aware of her weight, but don’t stress too much about it yet. She probably feels yucky and once she starts meds will gain it back as she’ll feel better.
An X-ray will show how large the heart is, but if you can get an ultrasound it will give more info on areas of enlargement, valve efficiency, blood flow etc. They generally run $200-600 so it’s always a gamble as to how much to spend chasing info that may or may not help the diagnosis.
I’m sure your vet mentioned it, but please listen to her breathing for any crackling sounds as that indicates fluid in the lungs. She could comfortably be a heart murmur 3 for months to years, but fluid backing up into the lungs needs a diuretic - not a big deal - earlier rather than later. If it’s a struggle you can get a vet stethoscope for $30-60.
Sorry if this is all overwhelming. I am very optimistic for Lucky as this was caught at a 3 and not a 5/6, and you and her vet are doing all the right things.

Thank you so much! Your experience in this area is helping to keep me calm! I picked her up about 20 minutes ago, her VHS is a 12, and I have her radiographs, which show an enlarged heart. Her Vet recommended a cardiologist who is extremely good with greyhounds, so that part makes me happy (but he's a busy guy!) He did say she's doing well, no crackles in the chest, but is a bit thin. She's got an amazingly good appetite so thats not the issue (if she stops eating I know I got a problem!)

he didn't issue any meds wants the cardiologist to mange that.

Will take it a day at a time. Trying to not to show my distress because they both pick up on it.

I love greyhounds! Was she a rescue? I did not know that the breed was susceptible to cardiac issues.
There was a greyhound race track over the border in the next state and there was a big rescue effort. The track did not last very long and closed. I don’t know if such tracks are in operation in the USA but there are a few greyhound rescue groups.

@Arcadian So many ::HUGS::

Sick pets are the worst. They do pick up on our worry, but it's so hard to not worry! That's wonderful that you have access to such excellent medical resources! It sounds like Lucky is home free for right now? If anything changes - comforting to know that you have the best people to help her ❤️
