I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

I think many of the customer service folks are just reading from a script and tell everyone the same thing. But I've never not been able to ask for a supervisor with the companies I use, but I'm not a Verizon customer for my phone. I am though for my TV, internet, etc. and haven't had that issue. What happens when you ask for a supervisor?

They obviously (most of them) are reading from script that is provided. They really overdo the thanks and assurances but honestly do nothing of substance. I spoke to many of them over many days. It was complicated by the fact that each phone was shipped back alone - one received and the other according to the tracking was not. However, they finally insisted that the phone was there being assessed. I still don’t think the phone ever arrived. Each time I spoke to someone they entered notes into the account. I think the story took on a life of its own and eventually was not accurate. When I asked for a supervisor, I was transferred ONCE to what turned out to be just another customer service representative. I was told that someone would check with an unavailable supervisor and call me back. Never happened. They will only give you a first name and no other number to call. They put me on hold for long stretches while they said they were reviewing all of the notes. You hang on in hopes that they will resolve the issue. Just didn’t happen. Today I was told that I HAD to be transferred to another person - yahoo finally! - and she seemed competent. At least the bill and the next bills show the correct amount. I told her what I had been through and that there needed to be a better way to handle complicated cases. She apologized and thanked me for being the best part of Verizon - unbelievable! I told her that no long term paying customer should ever be treated the way I have been. Again, another apology. I am just one of a million customers I guess so no big deal. We have been customers for years with no issue whatsoever, but this experience has left me with no faith in this company. They keep emailing me with offers of internet and cable. Fat chance!!

I agree. I'd not be switching anything to them, but as I mentioned I do have Verizon for everything but cell phones and not had issues with them. But I'm sure that's a different CS group. Maybe switch your phones to another carrier who has good coverage in your area and see how that works. They often give incentives if you do that .

Just counted up what I have ordered already. Between the local conservation district native plant sale and a local nursery, I have 51 plants ordered for pick up in early March. All but 5 are edible (berries/nuts/etc) perennials. Plus 10 cuttings of five separate varieties of elderberry. I love having room to plant!!!

Just a quick hello to my PS friends!!! I'm still too overwhelmed with RL to be posting actively again, but I miss you guys and hope everything is well for everyone

Love & Peace & BLING to you ❣️❤️❤️❤️

Big hugs to you. We miss you!
Wishing you and your family good health and much peace and joy ♥️

I’m taking a break from most social media and just keeping PS on my daily list.
I plan on reading books in my free time. I used to love reading for hours at a time.
Hoping to get that joyous feeling back. Engrossed in a good book I cannot put down.

@missy I’m also going to try. For me…I’m not going to read anything heavy….I’m going to read mindless romantic books..lol

I ordered three books from Amazon. Let me know if you like what you are reading. I am always looking for recommendations. Something engaging. I'll do the same :)

I did it, no, I AM DOING IT.

Today was the first day of my cybersecurity bootcamp, and day one, they had us on a virtual machine running some simple command codes in Ubuntu and I'M SO STINKING EXCITED!!! The classes I took last year were some good fundamental knowledge, but zero hands on training/working with the programs. Writing a paper about how I'd do something is not the same as practicing it.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel once I actually started - I'm transitioning out of dentistry into cyber security for a myriad of reasons (I wouldn't be if I could physically perform my current job at a full time capacity, but I cannot, and my long term goals unfortunately require the income from a full time job). While I know there will be days I question my sanity in deciding to go forward with this, ultimately, it just feels right!

My oldest nephew told me I was too old to go back to school, and I told him you are never to old to learn something new! =D

@missy I feel like you! I need to shut off the internet and my worries.
May I recommend the following books? Fall of Marigolds (set in NYC!) and I also really enjoyed The Nightingale. They are not exactly light, fluffy romances but they stand out to me as all-time favorites. Enjoy!

Way to go on the career change, vintageinjune! That takes guts!

Missy and MamaBee (and anyone else), might I suggest your local public library? I haven't purchased a book (e-book or audio book) in many many yeas now (maybe a decade or more). The Chicago Public Library (and others I believe) give you access to A LOT Of stuff electronically. I've always got a slew of books "out," audio books queued up for long drives, and things "on hold" that will be checked out to me when they become available. I only mention this because I read FAST. Like a book a night. And that can add up. FAST. One year I think I spent $3K on Amazon Kindle books. No joke. When I did that math I figured out how to join the library, which is paid for by my tax dollars anyway. Granted, not EVERYTHING is available. And sometimes you have to sit on the wait list. But there is enough out there that I have learned to read/listen to what's available and be patient for the things I want to hold on. Just throwing that out there in case it's an option. I mean... $3K a year is a whole new piece of bling! :cheeky:

Thank you Kim N! Not gonna lie, it feels surreal. I made an exit plan a bit over a year ago and now that it is actually coming together I'm ridiculously excited, but also surprised I was able to pull it off.

There are actually quite a few other dental professionals I know that want out but don't know how, and if I'm successful, I may offer to coach others interested in the same approach as me (or write up an informational packet and give it to anyone who wants it).

Thank you @Dee*Jay! I’ll look into it. We are actually getting a new library at the moment..

Almost done with wallpapering the kitchen ceiling! The trim detail is painted and ready to go up.
I don't recommend wallpapering individual squares, especially if none of them are actually uniform, not if you value your sanity.

My kid was asked to the State House to give advocate testimony for continuing the newly subsidized Community College program. He was asked after having a meeting with the president of the college system. He's taking this year to attend before transferring to his initial program specifically to be able to advocate for it as there was some real pushback against this most valuable opportunity when it was implemented from some quarters. He was able to address the legislators who want to try to privatize it out of existence. He's fighting for the things he believes in for everyone. I can't tell you how proud I am of him.

Thanks Dee. I have to get over my worry about bed bugs. Our friend was infested with bed bugs after he took out some library books. It was a really long time ago but I remember all he went through and since then I have not gone to the library or bought used books. Which is sad because I used to love lirbaries and also getting good deals on used books.

@missy I worry about the same stuff as you! :lol-2: I’m terrified of bedbugs..I always checked the bed bug registry before staying in any hotel..I’m the crazy person that reads every review before making a reservation. If there was a bedbug noticed in 2000..it would still get off my list. You would be surprised at how many super expensive hotels have them!

I didn’t get a bunch of flowers today..I didn’t want them..He purchased this for my son to give me..My neck has been killing me. I casually mentioned a few weeks ago that it was so uncomfortable..When he went into the store to get cards he saw this. I’m so excited to use it tonight when we watch tv..

He doesn’t need to get me flowers, candy, or jewelry. He does things for me that shows that he loves me..We came back from our other house in Maryland yesterday. We live in Pa..The both of us were beat..That’s another story..When I got home I realized I left my checkbooks there..I told him I would drive back to get them today... He said no..that he would do it. There was no convincing him. He wanted me to stay home and relax. I’m going to make him his favorite meal tonight…Baked Ziti with homemade meatballs. ❤️

@ItsMainelyYou I would love to see a pic of your ceiling! Did you post it in your thread? I have to catch up!

Not yet, there are the two middle squares still to put up, and the trim for the slats to go up. I gave up and only matched pattern in square and some seams...well, I fought hard. Oh, the stone island top should be here in two weeks!
It is really pretty though. I'll post over there soon-I can't figure out just what to do about the off center light yet! I'll have to order a new medallion I think. I'll have plenty to say over there soon- still undecided on so much

It looks so pretty! You are doing such a great job! I’ll have to run over to your thread later to catch up!
Is the light fixture centered over your island?

NO, and that's the problem.
I'll post there later tonight!

I only mentioned it because you said it was off center. I don’t know what electricians think when they put them in ceilings. I had mine moved when I moved into this house.

@Slickk I took your advice and purchased Fall
Of Marigolds. It’s coming tomorrow. It looks good! @missy

Oh, I'm not yelling at you! I'm yelling at my ceiling! Well, it's centered to the room itself, but the cabinets make the island placement not centered underneath. I'm thinking a chain and hook plate, maybe- but I really wanted a simple two light island fixture.

shopping

It'll look a bit weird not centered over the island. I can't afford to have it moved because it's not an easy job- so I'm stuck working with what's there, for now. I dunno, maybe a chandelier style. See?! I'll have lots to say on my thread soon.
This house is such a PIA

Oh wait -- maybe I wasn't clear! I meant for ELECTRONIC books and audio books.

As for the idea of bedbugs coming in physical library books. :errrr: That being said, I buy all sorts of things at auctions and second had stores so if I end up with an infestation I imagine it would more likely come from an old quilt or coat more than a library copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude.

If you’re not going to move it I would do a fixture like the one you posted. I think would camouflage that it’s off center because it’s a double lamp fixture..I wouldn’t even worry about it. No one will notice but you..

Ooooh. Got it.
My thing is I prefer reading actual hard (or soft) cover books. I’m so old school lol. I’ve tried electronic devices and idk. It’s just not the same for me. I like holding a book in my hands.
But that’s a great suggestion instead if library or used books. Thanks Dee.

Loved One Hundred Years of Solitude
(I read it in Spanish. So good)

I’m a glass person too @Dee*Jay..I did donate a lot but still have some etched glass that I like..I also have some vintage colored glass. My favorite is vintage etched glass. There was a Goodwill in my old neighborhood in Missouri that had really nice things...I would go in and find signed lithographs, etc. I found a signed..and framed and numbered Charles Wysocki for 25 dollars! I was sorry to move from there. There’s junk around here. I never bought anything soft..just hard stuff I could look over…like glass..and China..

There are definitely some treasures to be found! I'm currently in Effingham, Illinois for three days (don't ask... ) and picked up five champagne coups yesterday in the local Goodwill. They were more than I wanted to pay, but I got them anyway because they were cool and I'd never seen them before.
