My deepest sympathies for your loss, Wink. Thank you so much for sharing your stories and paying tribute to Flusher here. They were heartfelt and sad to read, but made me give my beagle an extra hug. {{{{hugs to you}}} too!

Very sorry for your loss Wink. Thank you for sharing all of the wonderful stories about Flusher, he sounds like a fantastic friend. I must admit I got very teary reading about how you all threw the bumper around one last time. I had a black lab growing up (who was supposed to be my dads bird dog until my mom found out about the shock collar) and he was the best friend i have EVER had. You wouldnt have a picture you would like to share would you?

Well, that did it! Your hunting stories touched me and brought on tears!

I personallly don''t know anything about hunting, but I suspect that a very special bond must exist between a hunter and his dog. Dear friend yes, but a true partner, too.

Such a huge loss...

My thoughts are with you...

so sorry to hear about your loss wink...at least he is at rainbow bridge now frolicking with the other pups there and spotting birds every other minute!!

So sorry for your loss Wink.

Dogs bring such unconditional love to our lives......it is so hard to say goodbye.

I hope your wonderful memories of Flusher will sustain you through this time.

Best wishes,

Heather

I''m sorry for your loss Wink... My heart goes out to you. Losing a pet is terrible...

Wink, I am so sorry. The feeling of loss is so great when we lose a beloved dog. My dh and I have had many long talks about the bond between humans and dogs. Your story brought an ache back to my heart as well. Just a few years ago, we had to euthanize a rescue greyhound who had had a hard life. We only had her about a year before she became sick and was diagnosed with lymphoma. She really was my husband''s first dog that he ever chose for himself, and she preferred him to everyone else in our family. She so enjoyed not being caged at the track, and being properly cared for, and loved going on walks and holding her own leash. And watching her run for the fun of it was an awesome sight. She was such a gentle, loyal and devoted pet. My husband tried everything to make her comfortable, to give her some quality of life. Then, one day, after a week of vomiting blood, she couldn''t even summon the interest to take her walk, and it broke my heart to sit him down and tell him that he had to put his dog down. I went with them to the vet, and it still brings tears to my eyes when I remember his grief. And then there was our little golden puppy Rosie (also a rescue) who we had to have euthanized after just a few days because she wasn''t going to survive the Parvo she already had when we got her.

Your stories about the times you and your lab shared are wonderful, treasures to hold you life long.

Wink...I''m so very sorry for your loss! It''s awful to lose your companion and friend. Those are some great stories/memories you have shared...take comfort knowing you two had many, many wonderful times together.

Wink,

So sad to hear about your dog...they just don''t have a long enough life span dammit! It''s 4 years this week since we put our Boxer down, and I still cry while I''m laughing at the funny things that silly dog did. Ya know, there always seems to be that one dog that gets that special spot in your heart! He was mine...

I''ll add my Doodles story, and see if I can make you smile!

We adopted Zues from Boxer Rescue when he was 4 years old, and he had a few (a lot) of bad habits! First and foremost was being an amazing escape artist. We built a fence, and he kept jumping like a gazelle over it and beating up the neighborhood dogs, so we got the bright idea to put an electric fence wire on the top. So, he quits going over the fence...and starts going under. So, my husband strings up the wire on the outside of the bottom of the fence, so he''ll only get a shock if he gets to the other side of the fence.

Well, we send him out, to see if he could still escape, and he PEED on the electric fence! He started howling and yowling and came running in the house, still peeing the entire time, and hid in the closet! OMG, it was the most horrible and hilarious thing at the same time! He never tried to get out of the yard again though!

The story of trying to get him to start peeing outside again is a whole other ball of wax. Lets just say it had something to do with my husband going around peeing on all the trees in our backyard....

Wink I am so desperately sorry. Labs are almost human in their understanding of us and are a wonderful breed. I pray for some peace and comfort for you and your wife at this sad time. Flusher is only a whisper away.....

Tawn that poor dog - I bet you didn''t know whether to laugh or cry! Did Hubby peeing on the trees make Zues catch the clue???

Wink,
Thank you for sharing your fond memories of Flusher with us- so touching. What a magnificent dog! I can feel your loss and your deep sadness over Flusher''s departure. May you find some small comfort in knowing you gave your friend a wonderful loving home, a good life, and so much love while he was with you.
Hugs to you and your family.

Dear Wink - I''m so-so-so sorry for your loss. I feel so bad for you. I''m such a doggy-woggy-lover and it would hurt me so much if our precious pooch had to go. I hope your friend is in doggy heaven enjoying life as a young strong doggy chasing down ducks and feathery friends!

I''m so sorry...

I''m so sorry.

Wink, so very sorry to learn of your loss. But just remember how lucky you were to have had such a wonderful companion for all those years. And Flusher was fortunate indeed to have had someone who cared for and about him as much as you did all that time.

Wink, sorry to hear of the passing of your dog, but I am sure you are comforted that he led a full life to the end of his natural life span. All companion animals are special, but sometimes one comes along that touches one''s life forever.

When I was growing up we weren''t allowed to have dogs or cats in the house because my greek grandmother lived with us and didn''t think animals belong in the house). When she was visiting relatives my little brother who is very persuasive convinced my Mom to let him adopt this black labrador, Tyler. He was the most incredible dog. Although my uncle hunts, our family does not, but for each family member he had his own routines and relationships; I would take him on walks, He would get up early with my mother and retrieve the morning paper for her, my brother he would go on hiking and boating trips, at night he would wake up when my Dad came home at night from work to spend time with him. He had so much love that he would regularly escape, and whenever he escaped he would go to where there were lots of people, the retirement home, a construction site, a school, he was really everyone''s dog. He also volunteered at the deaf blind center for children. The last couple years of his life he was definitely slowing down, but my mother could not make the decision whether it was time. A couple months shy of his 16th birthday, the day after Easter, he asked to be let out in the backyard and my sister did and left. When he wasn''t in the house my Mom thought he escaped again and looked around the neighborhood, but after that, checked the backyard one more time. He was there, curled up under a tree. He was so considerate he didn''t even want to trouble us at that time, just found a quiet spot to pass on. And it was a beautiful spring day.

I am really sorry for your loss, Wink.

Sadness must follow sorrow, it must be true,
And something better after
just like crocus after the coldness of the ground
relents, just a little.
Something must come after
hurting and losing the things you love.
The heart is a terrible thing, to be so
Bruised and keep on beating.
But I know this must not last
because memory is not perfect, unending,
Sadness must follow sorrow
And something better after.

Thank you all again for your support and caring replies. Tawn, I really laughed when I read that about your dog peeing on the electric wire, oh my goodness! We are using an invisible fence to train my wife''s pound puppy dog to stay out of the flowers. Once she chased a squirrel over the wire and could not figure out how to get out again.

Too funny.

Part Gypsy, thank you also for your heart touching description of your dog.

This has been a wonderful experience, finding so many kind and compassionate people here on Pricescope. You are all appreciated, immensely!

Wink,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how close you can get to Labs, having had two (brother and sister). It sounds like you two had a great time together - thanks for the stories.

I know exactly what you mean Wink. I lost my beloved cat a short while ago unexpectedly - it was a huge shock. I started a prayer thread for him and it eventually went to over 5 pages. The goodness and understanding our fellow PSers show when we lose our beloved companions is incredible and they all helped me so much. They are the best bunch in the world!

I am sorry I missed it. I rarely get to this part of the board, one of the dissadvantages to being small is that when you are busy, you are BUSY.

LOL! Our cat was so spoiled. After our children grew up and moved away he spent more time at our neighbors house than ours since they fed him delicacies and had more time to pamper him. When he died they went to the vet with us and we buried him in their yard and they had a little boulder engraved with his name and placed over the grave. My daughter still visits it when she is home.

Great Joy at the Jones'' house is that both of them and my son''s wife and my grand daughter all come home tomorrow for Easter!

Wink,
I am very sorry for your loss. My parents are going thru a similair situation with their dog. He is an Alaskan Malamute, and he is 13 1/2 yrs old. He has no control over his bowels anymore, and frequently poops all over the place, and doesnt even know he is doing it
7.gif

He also has hip problems, can no longer do stairs, and will fall down randomly when going for an ultra slow walk. My parents know what needs to be done, but they are trying to buy a few more days with him. He is the biggest dog I''ve ever seen, much less wrestled and pet...but he is the sweetest too, and would never hurt a fly (but he is an awesome guard dog...he can turn on the scary, snarly face whenever he wants :)
I hope with alittle time, it will get easier for you. Thanks for sharing those great stories and memories with us.

Oh Wink,
I''m so sorry to read this about your dog.
What a special relationship you had.
