Hi, I am new to this forum. I have purchased a 3.38 carat VS2 3X round diamond . It is for our 25th wedding anniversary a few years late. I am having such a hard time deciding to have a simple halo setting or a center stone with 2 side pears. My previous setting is a 2 carat pear with pear side stones. I am worried that a halo will draw attention away from the beautiful s center stone. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

My personal preference with that size diamond would be the side pears. Someone here had one like that with about a 3 ct center and it was one of my favorite rings! I'll see if I can find her thread, but here is a large round with side pears that is so gorgeous!

Found it! Her center stone is 3.5 cts, so very close to yours.

(For future reference, questions like this (regarding diamonds and settings) go in the Rocky Talky part of the forum. Finished rings and other pieces of jewelry are shown in this forum.)

I totally agree with Diamondseeker! You get great finger coverage and bling, but it absolutely draws the eye to the main event in an extremely elegant way.

Also another vote for pears. I've seen some nice tapered baguettes as sidestones to a RB (same slimming effect) but gives some nice contrast between the different type of flashes. I prefer the curviness of the pears to match the RB though! Do we get to see a preview of your 3ct? ::)

If you still have the 3 stone, then I'd suggest you go w/ a halo for the 3+ ct diamond for a different look. Frankie's ring turned out fabulously b/c the melee in the halo actually accent the stone:

O/w, I do love a good 3 stone! I have a 3 stone w/ all RB's and a 3 ct center--I think pears would look great, too!

I'm on Team Pears!! But as you know, nothing is set in stone (terrible pun, I know) so whatever you choose can be changed if you really really really don't like it. You could also add 2 slim eternity bands -- one above and one below -- for added oomph without overwhelming the center. (I am a bonded certified member of the PS Enablers Club)

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I am leaning toward pears now. I will need to figure out the correct size that will look best with my stone. Now I am not sure we will keep this stone. We have until Thursday to return it if we are not happy with it. Maybe some of you will have some thoughts on this. My stone is a GIA VS2 G color. Looking form the top down it is almost flawless with the 10x. I can see a small feather in the table and a small pinpoint in the crown. The problem is from the side there is a black crystal that reflects in many facets when held at different angles. I can see it without the 10x. Just with my eyes. I know they grade stones from the top but I think this will bug me since I will be probably setting this as a solitaire with side stones. It is about 1/3 of the way down the side of the stone. Everything else about the stone is amazing. It is 3X . What do you think? I was actually surprised when the stone came and we could see this on a VS2

I definitely would go halo. That ring is already so honkin big on your beautiful hands! Personally I find halos o. A stone past a certain size seem like guilding a lilly

If you're not happy with the clarity now, you won't probably be after its set even though you wont likely see it from that angle later. This is a HUGE purchase, do not settle.

Sent it back today. I know that the dark crystal inclusion that reflects into many facets on the side view would bother me. Just knowing it is there and can be seen with the naked eye. Thanks ! I will look until I find a stone which has no dark inclusions on the side view as a VS2 clarity stone. I will post again when we find another stone with better pictures too.

Itll be worth it. You can't sink this kind of money into something and try to ignore something that you saw and know is there and know bothers you.

It looked gorgeous on you, but I would absolutely have sent it back with a visible inclusion. Can't wait to see what you find!

You absolutely did the right thing - as Ame says once you've seen it, your mind can't dismiss it.

Good luck on the search and we'll be waiting to see the next stone!
