Hi! I was looking at 7 different princess cut diamonds. I want to ask for further information, but want to narrow down the number of diamonds I am looking at. If anyone could just give their input it would be greatly appreciated! THANKS! =D

ahh!

if you''re going to list 7 stones, please create links! It helps everyone else out a lot.

Sorry about that! Next time I will make sure to make them into links though I''m not quite sure how to do that. Oh man, what''s wrong with all of the stones? Seems like I have no clue what to look for. Back to searching again! These were all gia certified.

Generally, you want the table to be slightly smaller than the depth. Usually that is around 70-75% for the depth and 65-72% for the table. And the loupe image, although not an accurate way to tell the cut, can give you a hint of the cut because of the standardize nature of JA''s image.

Can you give the budget and specs you are looking for?

The budget for the stone is $3500. I would like 1.0 ct but for quality purposes I would seriously consider smaller. I want a round cut diamond that''s around a g to h in color and lowest would be I. With clarity my main issue is it being eye clean and being that I can''t see the stones in person my search has always leaned toward vs2 to si1 or better. The reason I started looking at princess cuts was because I thought it would be cheaper to go that way and get good clarity and ok color. Thanks again for your help!

Any idea what cut she prefers? Girls that like rounds generally do not like princess and vice versa.

Thank you stonecold!

The only diamond out of these selections that looks to be worth further investigation is the last one, you could ask for an ASET image for this diamond if you were interested.

Are you sure your GF would prefer a Princess to a round?

Ok. so round diamonds it is. why is it that one gia round diamond with ideal cut and same color andcolor of h and clarity od vs2 be a better choice than another of the same specs? What other stuff can affect the decision? I know polish and symmetry should be excellent, but is that all? And is fluoresence good or bad? I heard it can be good. Thanks again to all of you!

Same color and clarity****

In all stones, not just rounds, it''s about the combination of angles that will create the most pleasing appearance in the most lighting conditions.

Ditto, then angles. Symm and Polish can be in the VG range and is still essentially not noticeable to the human eyes.

I''m looking on whiteflas and I am seeing some h vs2 round diamonds that are gia certified. What angles shal I look at to see I they''re any good?

I have now narrowed it down to these three:

1.) I-VS2

2.) I-VS2

3.) H-VS2 ---> thanks stonecold!

The 1st one got a 1.9 on the HCA
The 3rd one got a .9 on the HCA
The 2nd one doesn't have a GIA report available online so I had to request one....

Post the report for #2 when you get it then we can go from there.

Have you requested for idealscope image for all these 3?

Yes I did ask for idealscope readings for these 3. they said id get it by Monday I believe. I will update then! Thanks all and have a happy valentines day!

I do have a question however about cut grading. I did hca''s for two of those diamonds and the one with the ideal cut got a 1.9 and the one with the premium cut got a .9. Isn''t a .9 better than a 1.9? Why is it the one with a lower score got a better hca? Is it because the one that got a .9 was ags and the one that got 1.9 was gia and one grades harder?

No.

The HCA is used for rejection, not selection. All scores below 2 are considered equal pending further evaluation with images and lastly your own preferences. Therefore a lower score isn't better than a higher one. Once you have images, these always take precedence over the HCA score.

Ditto

Hi all! Due to time constraints we purchased the .99 h vs2 which was so kindly suggested by stone cold! We asked for idealscope images and they were able to get an image to us right before packaging. Will post now if I can on my phone or later if I can''t. From examples I have seen it seems like a good reading. Excellent light return and very good/excellent symmetry? Not sure though....thanks guys!

Come back with photos when you have it! Or just tell us what you think. I bet you will love it.

Also, does anyone know how much it usually costs to set a diamond? I know shane co near us charges 2 dollars per pt . Is that reasonable? Or expensive? I know some unknown jewelers charge 50 bucks but not quite sure if I want to go that route.

IS looks like what is shown on the loupe image. It is good, just not perfectly symm from the top view.

No idea how jewelers charge for setting but do they cover the stone in case of damage during setting?
