We went to shane co. They ask for 200 (2 dollars per pt) in addition to over priced settings but the lifetime guarantee seems nice.

Then there''s jewelry exchange where they charge 200 to set as well. The settings are a little cheaper but there''s no refunds and the guarantee is only for a year.

Another option I''m looking at is getting it custom made with this one jeweler here in san francisco. I''m waiting on an estimate which would include setting expenses. I am also asking if they have a guarantee.

I wanted to go through the same vendor for stone and settting but I didn''t love any of the ones available and I also thought shipping expenses back and forth would add up.

And I thought that finding the diamond was hard.....

When you get the ring insured independently, will probably cover more than in-store lifetime guarantees

those tend to be very case specific, and have very strict timelines on checkups, etc. (though you should get it checked regularly!) So I would just pick the better setting and not worry about the store warrantees.

You will want to get the loose stone insured before setting - many jewellers will not cover damage during the setting process, esp if you didn''t buy the stone from them too

Those "lifetime guarantees" and a racket. Like extended warranties at future shop

As Yssie said, your insurance either as a rider on a homeowners policy or as an individual policy through Jeweler''s Mutual or chubb etc. will cover a wider range of issues, and regular maintenance is inexpensive anyways.

What type of setting are you looking for? What budget? We can help you find something. I personally would *not* trust any old jeweler to set my diamond. I would have it set by the company that sold me the diamond or I would work with a company like Pearlman''s who will insure the diamond during the setting process. (JA really didn''t have anything?? They have hundreds of styles...)

Dreamer, the issue with adding a rider to our current policy is that my dad is our insurance agent and we are planning on making it a "surprise" for everyone when the rings all done. We are in the process of getting our insurance licenses soon so we would never not insure it while setting it so this may pose a problem. Hmmmmm...

"She" came in the mail today! Woot! Perfect! She even makes the tension clasps look good! Lolz.

As for the setting, I really like scott kay''s Crown line (is that even what its called?) But that''s waaaaaaaaay too much for a setting for us. I was thinking of doing an "inspired by" thing at some custom jeweler but that would be pushing oour budget I''m waiting on a quote for it. I''m thinking about just getting a solitare setting for now probably. We are gonna look at settings today. If I''m lucky they will have a premade scott kay inspired setting for a good price! Haha. I''m crossing my fingers.

Ok so im gonna try to upload the pic...
