I need opinions!!

Thank you! Guess some reassurance is never bad!
After looking at the pics, I think you are right, size might be perfect. :-) Worth the wait!

Soo my precious stone was taken away from me yesterday. No pics in natural light :-( I will probably not see it again until the final project is complete. At that time, I will come back and post pics! Can't wait.

That was fast - you pulled the plug and did it! It must look glorious in sunlight. You've obviously decided that with a halo it'll have enough presence? Wishing your precious much dust as it undergoes its transformation.

This is my first time building a ring. I have no idea what I'm doing. I just know I really like halo settings. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I would really appreciate it.

eta: it has not been sent to be set yet, my boyfriend just took it away from me so I don't know when he sends it away or anything.

Hopefully he sends it off to somebody competent. I suggest looking at Halo style rings together so you can get a feel for what you like. Like Chrono said, you don't want to get something that will over power that stone.

DSLR (nikon D5100). I have a macro lens from an old camera (from before digital era) which I'm going to see if it works. If not, I am probably getting the Sigma 50mm macro

I have the Sigma 50mm macro lens on my Nikon DSLR- I LOVE that lens!!!! I pretty much keep it on my Nikon most of the time for portraits. Beautiful DOF on it!!

Beautiful sapphire!! Can't wait to see your finished ring :appl: :appl:

That was quick! Guess he must like what he saw too. There are many variations of halos with different page styles. Do you get any input on this?

yes!!! input please!!

Thanks everyone! I really do love the stone!

I bought a 35mm but have been going back and forth between the 35mm and the 50mm (both nikkor). Have you had any experience with a 35mm?

No- haven't really used a 35mm lens, so can't really compare the two. When I researched lenses- I really preferred the 50mm Sigma over the Nikkor 50mm, but that's been several years ago (I have a Nikon D60). I wanted mainly a portrait lens as I painted pet portraits and would frequently take my own reference photos, so the 50mm was perfect for me. I'm sure the Nikkor 35mm is a great lens,too- so hard to go wrong either way. :))

Have you checked out the Show me the Bling section? I think there are oodles and oodles of threads focused on halos.

looks like a lovely stone! congrats :)

cant wait to see the final pictures

Very pretty blue. I can't wait to see pics of it in its new home too! :appl:

FINALLY GOT MY FINISHED PRODUCT!! It is gorgeous!!!! I promise I will take some pictures this weekend that I can upload.

For now, I need to ask, how do I care for this beautiful baby? It is set in platinum. I was thinking of soaking it in jewelry cleaner every night, but I feel like that is probably not a good idea. Suggestions?

Here is a phone pic, I promise to post better pics this weekend.

Congrats on the gorgeous ring and yes, more pictures please! In terms of care, it is fine for your ring to sit in the jewellery cleaner while you take a shower or brush your teeth.
