I overuse [fill in the blank].

I overuse commas. I have no idea why, but I know that I do; all of my peer edited papers during college involved the removal of commas, yet, I still overuse them today. What do you overuse, in writing or other areas of your life?

Commas, definitely. Some people really hate how I write because of that and try to edit them into nothingness, while others seem to really like it. It's a personal thing, I guess.

I also overuse exclamation points when I post things online. I always feel like I might be perceived as being unfriendly or short with someone if I don't put more effort into making sure they know I am excited and friendly!

When I post online, I use commas to show how it would "sound" if I was actually "talking". I probably overuse exclamations, too. But, I''m a very passionate speaker, so it would probably be the same if you really "heard" me.


And, looking back on this post, perhaps the "" are overused as well!


In life, I overuse toothpaste, and conditioner, and chapstick, and cake. Yup, I definitely overuse cake!!

Or misspell out of pure dumbosity. Invent a few weeeeerds too. Or, SQUEE, use the colorful slang of other fine peeps ''round here. Or southern abbreviations. Though most of them are so MEH! Blerg.

I also use "and" to start sentences all the time. Just ''cuz I''m a big kid now and out of highschool and am ''allowed'' to.

Oh, I am the exclamation mark QUEEN!!! Its my favorite little button to push on the keyboard. Nothing like a little Shift/1 to make my day.

I think its because I am a really passionate person, and I use a lot of expression when I talk to people, so my exclamation marks make it passionate in the written sense. Hi, my name is hairgirl, and I am an exclamation mark addict......

YES! That''s totally me. I always edit back over my emails and [when I remember] my posts to try to make myself sound a little more sane and professional. Especially when I''m emailing a prof. I feel pretty stupid writing with such passion when usually they write back in 3 sentences and sign it with the first initial of their first name.

ETA: OUpeargirl, I use P.S. in real life, too! I actually love using random acronyms in real life. One of my favorites is using PM to mean pretty much, as in "that was PM awesome".
