Hehehe, "This is my fancy new nightgown! I''m just not going to wear it for a while..."

Actually, I heard it''s bad luck to buy it before you''ve met your FH... not before you''re engaged. My grandmother is very supersticious about that stuff. She also told me to never buy baby clothes before being pregnant. She had a sister who did this, but she never was able to have children...

I don''t actually believe that stuff though. Like buying your wedding rings without trying them on... How do you know if it fits?

Like I said earlier, I could see wearing a dress like that to a black tie event too. So, you could tell yourself that it''s really just a formal dress, and then when he proposes, "Oh, look! I have the perfect dress in my closet already!"

Mmmmmmm chocolate.

bad news.....i was totally ready to use the "fancy nightgown" excuse (love it) and order it.. it's been sitting in my basket for hours now.. just staring at me

i could always return it.. no harm in trying it on, right?

then i started picturing myself running around the house like monica from friends and having BF find me... actually, the thought of it made me laugh.... remember pheobe rented a dress so they could both be in wedding dresses;)

BUT.....i just measured myself
7.gif
... there is no way i'm going to fit into a size 6 .... and i don't know how much they could take it out.... the next size available is 14.... that would be too much to alter.... crap.....

so sad
7.gif

SILK SEERSUCKER... who knew it existed.... maybe they'll come out with another dress in this material... and maybe i'll have a sparklie then ...

why do i feel sad about something i never even had? crap!

BF will have to take me out to our fav. italian rest. tonight to mourn my loss

great..... now i'm going to have to obsessively check ebay... size 8 or 10 for anyone out there ;)

not everyone is silly like that but i would have been afraid i''d jinx it or it''s bad luck or something. i am not even really superstitious but when it comes to things like forever marriage, better safe than sorry

??

I hope no one is going to take offence at me for saying this, but why can''t a girl get a wedding dress ahead of her proposal, but it''s perfectly OK to have baby showers?

We don''t give presents before the baby is born in Britain because of the same feeling of "jinxing". I guess we are just superstitious about different things (as a nation, I mean. My British great aunt was nutty as a fruitcake and superstitious about absolutely everything. Her birthday was the 13th, and when it fell on a Friday, she wouldn''t even get out of bed).

Oh, boo. I''m sorry that they''re out.

I don''t want to get your hopes up, but I suppose that there''s a chance that someone else ordered a 8 or 10 online, is going to receive it soon, won''t like how it fits, and decides to return it. Does anyone know how easy/hard it is to determine if they suddenly have one or a couple returns in a certain size? Is it just listed as being there again if you go on and check?

Hmmmm.

to me that's not the same cinnabar...it's like it's okay to have a wedding shower when you are engaged but who throws wedding showers before an engagement or a baby shower before anyone is even pregnant? i think mentally it's like once it's on it's way to happening it's okay? who knows. everyone is different!

when i said jinx it i meant the proposal, relationship etc. i would be so sad if i had my wedding dress picked out in the closet, or similar and then the propsoal never came!

Oh nooooo! How tall are you, vizla? Could you get the petite, which they still have in size 8?

5''9" - the 44" length would have been perfect

...... i did it.... i confessed to my BF what i''ve been up to today....

(this is why i love him) he said "well, print off a picture.. maybe you could have it custom made"

gotta love him for not thinking i''m batty....

Blenheim, i''m soooooo on it

i''ll be checking everyday... just one more thing to be obsessive about.... first rings, then PS, now dresses... i chalk it up to being thorough.

What a sweet response from your bf!

I''m sorry it seems that this dress won''t work size-wise. I don''t mean to egg you on here, but when I ordered the dresses from J Crew, I thought they ran a bit big. Any chance the 6 would work after all? Is it close size-wise?

At least you ate the chocolate.

i''m bad....

lookie what i found.... just in case... it''s not silk.. it''s cotton.. but could work... if i am still on the seersucker frenzy in a few months from now

since it''s a bridesmaid dress.. i could always order it... and it does come in white on white....

seesucker alternative.jpg

eh, that actually looks more like a nightgown

Starset I was just about to say the same exact thing. It is nightgown-ish...something about the cut and the fact that it''s in cotton.

i should start sourcing silk seersucker...

*** funny side note... i work in the fashion industry and i was explaining this material to someone at work and they actually said "silk seersucker.. i didn''t know they even made that"

EXACTLY!

amazing! you girls are better than google

Aw... I''m sorry they sold out...

But your boyfriend is so sweet!

vizsla your boyfriend is so adorable for being so understanding! My bf would think I was nuts!

Did you ask JCrew if you could put your name on a list in case someone returns a size that would work for you? A few years ago they had this gorgeous black strapless dress I fell in love with but had sold out of my size and I looked EVERYWHERE for it, in every store I found and random sites online (even ebay!). I was crying to the online sales rep and she somehow (not even sure if this was legal) put my name into the computer in case one was returned I would get called, one was, and I now own the gorgeous black strapless dress! Of course I have yet to wear it to anything but I figure ''buy it, and the event will come!!!!"

LOL....this reminds me of the episode from Friends when Monica, Phoebe and Rachel wore wedding dresses while eating popcorn. I think it''s cute. And even more adorable that your boyfriend doesn''t mind. He''s a keeper!

In 2001, I was engaged, and I spent $1700 on a dress, tiara, veil, and shoes.

I ended it at the end of 2001.

It''s 2006, and I still have the dress, tiara, veil, and shoes. I showed it to my boyfriend when we''d been dating for a couple of months. He told me this evening, when I showed him one I''d been eyeing from Pronovias, "honey, you''ve already got a beautiful dress!"

Well, then I guess that settles it.

I also figured that if I didn''t use it, I''d convert it to a ballet tutu with all the extra tulle (it has a long train).
