oh my gosh. I think it is just TO DIE FOR.
I guess it is a bridesmaid dress, but I just wish I had a fancy occassion to dress up and wear it!

Its probably too bridesmaidy to wear to a wedding, right? I thought maybe if I got it in black, it would be okay.. but it would have to be a pretty formal wedding. My friend that is getting married in the spring is having a pretty informal wedding, so that dress would be dressier than even her wedding gown, I think..

I was thinking my rehearsal dinner.. It is going to be more of a formal rehearsal dinner.. I''d still be over dressed compared to everyone else.. but I AM the bride, afterall..

It''s very pretty- my moh is getting married next sept and I am her MOH...I am trying to coherce her into choosing a dress like that for me to wear...it is very dressy fpr even a dressy rehersal dinner, unless it is black tie...but you are the bride so you can make your own rules

You could go on a cruise and wear it...It is pretty but is very dressy. I think black would make it even dressier.

Tacori- LOL.. I don''t think a cruise is anywhere in my immediate future.

If I got it for my rehearsal dinner, I''d get a color, but I was thinking if I got it to wear to a wedding.. I''d get it in black.. because I think in a color it would look a lot like a bridesmaid dress. (since it is). My friends wedding in march is too informal, (early afternoon reception, short bridesmaid dress, her dress is actually ankle length), but another friend is getting married in September.. that will be more formal.. Thats a possiblity. :) I would LOVE it if my guests showed up in beautiful dresses like that. I think that we don''t get dressed up enough for weddings anymore, myself included!

Maybe have it hemmed to tealength then it won''t look too bridesmaidy.

honeymoon maybe? I am always thinking. Someday I would love to go on a cruise but that will probably be in five years. Maybe a really thin sweater would dress it down...maybe something like this...

That''s a good idea! I have a friend that hemmed her bridesmaid dress to her knees and wore it to another wedding (as a guest) and it looked good.

My thoughts exactly

if you like it that much, and it''s not going to break the bank, just get it! it can always be altered (ex. shortened like hte others mentioned) or dyed, or something! I love formal dresses though, so it''s a soft spot for me!

have you tried it on? maybe you won''t be sooooo in love w/it after you try it on.. then you can stop lusting after it?!

:) I haven''t tried it on yet.. Maybe I''ll go today and see if its at my bridal shop.. I know they carry the brand.. I really want it, but you are right that maybe once I try it on, I won''t want it so much.

This is not a dress that you could hem to be a shorter dress.. It would defeat the whole point of the dress. Its a trumpet shape, so it wouldn''t work as a short dress.

I don''t think its outrageously expensive. I couldn''t get an exact price quote, but by looking at other dresses from that designer I figure it would be about $140 at the MOST, from an online retailer.

That dress is sooo pretty. How about buying the dress and wearing it for your reception or part of your reception?

Good idea, qteikiki--or maybe you could wear it for a rehearsal dinner? The dress is lovely...

I agree that you should try it on. Either you''ll love it & decide to purchase it, or you''ll find out that you don''t really like it so much in person. Either way, you''ll be able to stop wanting it...

After trying it on and you still LOVE it.... then BUY IT. I''m pretty sure once you have the dress... you will find reasons / occasions and put that dress to work!!

ooh yeah - wear it as a reception dress or something... !!

Very pretty!!! In vietnamese wedding traditions, a bride is expected to have anywhere from 2 to 4 "costume changes"! Lots of girls buy a more traditional dress for the ceremony, a slinkier/sexier dress for the dancing, a cake-cutting/eating dress

, and of course the traditional vietnamese ao dai. The order they wear each dress varies with each wedding.

heehee...just thoughts!

Gingercookie - are you going to change three times? I kind of need help with a changing timeline for 4 dresses.

So I showed my mom that dress the other day (I am always nervous showing her things, because I''m afraid she will tell me they are stupid or a waste of money..).. and then today, we were driving in the car, and she randomly asked me "Does Jeff have a big christmas party for work where you can get all dressed up?"

So.. I just asked Jeff, and indeed he DOES! They will even pick us up in a Limo if we want. :)
I''m SO going to try on that dress!

And I''ll probably be getting it..
Now to decide which color!

For christmas time, a red maybe? Red is not usually my color.. but I keep thinking of blueroses sexy red dress.

yah! NOW you have a place to wear it. I think that''s a great idea. I personally probably would still get black. You could always pair it will a red wrap or jewelry to get the holiday spirit in there.

I agree- black!

The dress is lovely, but I can''t help but notice the model must be standing on a friggin step stool or have stilts or 8" platforms on! Esp in the second picture you can see where her knee is and her lower leg is no way that long!

OK, I feel better now. Back to the regularly scheduled thread....

no, i'll just be wearing my white dress and ao dai, although i will be altnating in and out of each one depending on the scedule

. What are you wearing?

ETA: I just realized i shouldhave just pm'ed you!

sorry..didn't mean to hijack ms's thread!

Okay - I went and tried the dress on.. I really like it, but I don't know if i should spend the money on it. I just sent in for the netbride.com quote.. so we will see what that comes up as.. it was $185 in my bridal shop..

but okay.. get this.. I'm going to feel REALLY guilty if I end up ordering online.. Here's what happened

A few days back on theknot, I posted on the main dress board, not my local board, to see if anyone knew delievery time for the dress, because I'll be cutting it close.. and I mentioned I'd order it from netbride.com.. Someone responded, and it sounded as if they might work at a dress shop or something, they really knew what they were talking about, you know.. but they didn't say so. I didn't really think twice about it.. I didn't even look at their bio.

So today I go in the dress shop, and the one girl. I think she's the owners daughter, and she basically runs the place.. She is so sweet, I knew she was getting married next October..but I had only actually worked with her once ever, and it was MONTHS ago..for bridesmaid dresses.. so she was talking to me about the dress delievery.. and she said "I know you ordered your bridal gown from us".. and I thought to myself "thats strange that she would remember me.." and then when I was leaving, she said "bye Melissa".. and that I thought was REALLY STRANGE.. I hadn't told her my name. Oh.. and she siad something about giving me a discount on the dress since my gown was ordered from them.. So at first I was thinking, wow.. they're really good at customer service there, they really make me want to buy from them.. but then the wheels in my brain started sprinning.

Yeah.. so I go home.. and the knottie that responded to my post.. DEFINITLEY her.. She didn't have any pics of herself, but she's in my area and getting married in October.. It all makes sense..

So.. I will have to see what the netbride quote comes in at.. because I am feeling REALLY GUILTY!

Soo.. I''ve decided to be rational and not buy the dress.
7.gif
The netbride quote was only $146 (it would be $126 if your order two or more.. stupid).. but unless I rush order it, ($50 extra) there is no way they can guarantee it will be there in time for FIs xmas party.. and I''m just not sure about it for weddings.. I am hoping I''ll be able to find something similar off the rack somewhere.
