I went to a gem show yesterday

This was the first gem show I''ve been to since the ''80s. in NYC... it was the InterGem Gem & Jewelry Show in Santa Monica. What possessed me to throw on those high heeled boots before I left.... I don''t know. My dogs were barkin''.

I know it''s not a major show, but I was still overwhelmed. Flashing beads, shiny crocodile purses, high carat gold, meteorites, crap, treasures... I did get to finally see Phelps''e & Me''s benitoites, though - they sparkle like mad. I found that I liked the less expensive pale blue ones the best. I still want to do a bennies by the yard piece in the future...

The estate piece were really the best stuff there, to me, but it was all pretty overwhelming!

I didn''t buy anything, at all. I was so inundated with color and shine that I would have made a silly purchase. I''m not sure it''s the best place for a novice to start shopping anyway! But it was fun...

Aw, I just missed the Santa Monica gem show? I live in the area, so it would have been cool to check out all the gems. How do I find out when the next one is? Is there a website or anything?

The next InterGem Show in the area is at the Pasadena Center, July 4-6, 2008. Although it looks much smaller (far fewer exhibitors) I might try to get to that one, too. I''m gonna bring a loupe and be a nuisance.

Hey, I went on Saturday! Isn''t it CRAAAAZEEE? You really have to weed through the random stuff to get to the good vendors, and now I pretty much just head for Phelpse''s booth. Nice people, did you chat with Dennis? I finally picked up my benitoite drop pendant from him. I brought DH, and he was quite impressed with the tanzanites.

I went Saturday and Sunday--got some mollusky grown things

--and they are FABULOUS! I had a lot of fun this time around. Met an awesome wholesaler too!

Ninama, we usually have a PS GTG when the gem show comes to our area three times a year. We all meet for lunch then trek around the bling. I usually buy a little something, but I would never plunk down serious change in a setting like that. It can be a bit overwhelming though. And doing it in high heeled boots--yowch!

Did you take your SO too? The first time I went to one I made the HH join me and afterward he just looked at me with a bling crazed stare and said "what the hell just happened in there?"
